Red Sparrow

The Cold War is Back

By Gary;

Jennifer Lawrence . . . . Nuff said.

I couldn't pass up Red Sparrow. The promised Jennifer Lawrence nude scene was a factor in going.

The film is a Cold War based anti-Russia spy drama in a world where Russia no longer is running a Cold War. But Hell, you gotta have bad guys.

Dominika Egorova (Lawrence) is a famed Russian ballerina who supports her sick mother. Following a career-ending injury, Dominika is approached by her uncle, Ivan, who works in Russian intelligence.

Dominika is sent to train to become a Russian operative, known as a 'Sparrow', capable of seducing her targets. So from there off she goes to help Mother Russia.

The promised nude scenes were less than I would have liked. Such is life. The spy drama plot was typical with a few twists and turns to keep you guessing.

There was nothing wrong with the movie. There was just not too much to grab you and say "wow". I guess I have watched too many James Bond films with supervillains to be satisfied with simple spy films.

For the most part I have never been much for spy films, and that may be a factor. Though not great Red Sparrow was time fairly well spent.

Rated a 6 out of 10
