American Socialism - Paying farmers NOT to grow food

Big Government strikes again.
Big Government used its' power to beat up local farmers in Imperial County, California and force them to send their water to San Diego.  Now farmers are being paid not to grow food.

Your Tax Dollars at Work
Farmers are lining up to get paid NOT to grow food for Americans to eat
  • 'The Federal Government held a gun to our heads.'
  • Farmers of 30,000 acres will be paid NOT to grow food.
  • San Diego now has lots of water to keep their lawns and golf courses green.

The insanity of Big Government goes on and on.

Americans need to eat food.  It is a basic fact of life.  But in a 2003 agreement the Interior Department of "small government" Republican President George Bush bullied farmers in Democratic Imperial County to send their water to Republican San Diego County.

But I am sure party politics was not involved.  Right?

Now everything is coming to a head in the courts with lawsuits over water policy.

More than a third of the water that San Diego distributes to local agencies comes from the water transfer agreements that were forced on neighboring agricultural Imperial County. Those water sales are slated to increase over the coming years reports the Los Angeles Times.

The Imperial Irrigation District governing board approved the deal on a 3-2 vote after years of arm-twisting by the federal government, including a threat by the Department of the Interior to take the water for free unless the district agreed to sell it to San Diego.

None of the three board members who voted in favor of the deal are still in office.

The board member who, after months of indecision, provided the swing vote was defeated for reelection by John Pierre Menvielle, a third-generation Imperial Valley farmer who ran on an anti-water-deal platform.

Menvielle has now quit active farming to concentrate on getting a better deal for the Imperial Valley and guarding against outside pressures that he fears could bankrupt local farmers. He still seethes over the way the federal government forced the district to let fields lie fallow so water could be shifted to San Diego.

"Basically there was a gun held to our head," he said. "We got hoodwinked into this thing."

"The 18 million people on the coast could care less if the Imperial Valley dries up — that way they could get the water for free," he said.

Out of 480,000 acres of farmland in the Imperial Valley, about 5,800 are being fallowed to save water to sell to San Diego; the district has had no trouble finding farmers willing to fallow land in exchange for per-acre payments.

In coming years, fallowing is set to increase to nearly 30,000 acres.

After all, food comes from supermarkets.
Farmers don't need water.  That is crazy talk.  So let's take the water from farmers and use it to water lawns and create water hazards at places like Torrey Pines Golf Course, San Diego (above).  Who needs farmers?  After all, food appears like magic at the market.

Cain denies report of sexual harassment

Cain and sexual harassment  -  I don't like Cain's answer

By Gary;

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain's campaign denied allegations Sunday that he was twice accused of sexual harassment while he was the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

In a statement to The Associated Press, his campaign disputed a Politico report that said Cain had been accused of sexually suggestive behavior toward at least two female employees.

In its report, Politico said it confronted Cain early Sunday outside of the CBS News Washington bureau, where he had just been interviewed on "Face the Nation."

"I am not going to comment on that," he told Politico when asked specifically about one of the woman's claims.

Personally, if I was innocent and someone was trying to fuck me over with bull shit lies I would be angry as Hell.  I would be screaming at the top of my lungs for that anonymous liar to come out into the light and repeat those charges to my face.  My first reaction would not be, 'I am not going to comment on that.'

When asked if he had ever been accused of harassment by a woman, he responded, Politico said, by asking the reporter, "Have you ever been accused of sexual harassment?"

Answering a question with a question is not an answer.

Cain needs to clear this up at once.

Update:  After a very, very very weak first response Herman Cain now says, "I've never sexually harassed anyone, and yes, I was falsely accused while I was at the National Restaurant Association, and I say falsely, because it turned out, after the investigation, to be baseless."  We will see how this plays out.

Obama's Shovel Ready Socialism

Socialist Democrats are always looking for new places to spend your money.

Shovel Ready Projects
Some $2 Billion in Obama stimulus money used to pay people to stay in homes they cannot afford
  • The real truth  -  The "stimulus" money is really going to the BANKS to cover the bad home loans they made for years on end.
  • This taxpayer rip-off is bi-partisan.

By Gary;

A growing number of distressed homeowners in California are keeping their houses because of a state program funded with $2 billion in federal stimulus money.

Participation in the "Your Home California" program has grown quickly to about 7,000 homeowners statewide. The program has provided more than $128 million in benefits, or roughly $18,000 per homeowner, reports the Sacramento Bee.

"After working out kinks in the system … we're really starting to pick up speed," said Diane Richardson, Keep Your Home California's program director

Pick up speed.  Now that is just fucking wonderful.  The USA is totally bankrupt and is both borrowing and printing money left and right and the Socialists cannot wait to get the program up to speed.

About 50 banks, mortgage services and credit unions have agreed to participate with the housing agency.  Who would not agree to get FREE MONEY from the Federal Government to keep their private mortgage contract solvent?

In August, Bank of America Corp., the nation's largest lender, signed on.

The program offers as much as $3,000 a month for up to nine months for homeowners who have lost their jobs. It also provides up to $15,000 in mortgage assistance to homeowners who have fallen behind on their payments due to financial hardship.

In addition, the agency provides assistance to homeowners who have to relocate due to a foreclosure sale or a short sale, in which a bank agrees to take less than what is owed. This plan calls for a one-time payment of up to $5,000.

Crony-Socialism at its very best.
Money is taxed from the producers of society and then the wealth is re-distributed to international bankers to cover the bad loans they made . . . . . and while the bankers are lining their pockets with tax money the Socialist Democrats are claiming they are helping the little guy.  A true con game.
Where are the Republicans?
. . . in bed with the Democrats and Bankers!

There is a massive rip-off of taxpayer money and a re-distribution of wealth from the producers in society to international bankers to cover their bad loans.  You would think that Republicans and Democrats would be all over the issue of corrupt bankers.

But no.

Do not listen to what the political hacks say.  Watch what they do.

The tax money keeps flowing and no meaningful hearings are held by either party to investigate the Wall Street meltdown, massive loan fraud and the home foreclosure insanity.

As the list below shows, both political parties are fully bought and paid for by the banking industry.  Both parties are doing everything possible to prevent any real investigations that might draw the attention of the public.

Hundreds of billions of dollars have vanished like a fart in the wind . . . . and no one goes to jail.

Our Founding Fathers would be so proud of these bastards.

Last Polish pilot from the Battle of Britain dies age 97

Brigadier General Tadeusz Sawicz, who
has died at the age of 97, is believed
to have been the last surviving Polish
pilot from the Battle of Britain

The End of an era  -  The last Polish pilot from the Battle of Britain dies

--- Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by Britain

--- Betrayed by both Britain and the USA when Poland was given as a "gift" to Comrade Stalin.

A World War Two airman, believed to be the last surviving Polish pilot from the Battle of Britain, has died at the age of 97.

Brigadier General Tadeusz Sawicz, credited with shooting down three German aircraft and much decorated for his valour, died on October 19 at a nursing home in Toronto, Canada, reports the UK Daily Mail.

He is believed to be the last surviving pilot from the Polish Air Forces in Britain during World War Two. He fought in the 1940 Battle of Britain and served with the RAF  until early 1947.

A spokesman for the RAF paid tribute, saying: 'There is widespread admiration for the major contribution that the Polish aircrew made to the Allied victory in World War Two and their commitment in the face of significant losses, especially those who so bravely fought in the Battle of Britain.
'Their vital contributions will be long remembered.'

Historian Adam Zamoyski — author of 'The Forgotten Few: The Polish Air Force in the Second World War' — told reporters that if Sawicz were the last surviving Polish pilot from the 1940 battle it would bring an important chapter to a close.

When war broke out in 1939 Sawicz fought in Poland's air defense against the invading Germans. At one point, he flew under German fire to carry orders to troops defending Warsaw.

Following the collapse of the city's defense on September 17, he joined Polish pilots fighting in France.

After the surrender of Paris in July 1940 he made his way — along with tens of thousands of Polish airmen, soldiers and sailors — to Britain, where they made up the largest foreign military force in the country.

Mr Zamoyski said that some 17,000 Poles — pilots, mechanics and ground staff — served in the Polish air force in Britain at the time.

In the summer of 1940, General Wladyslaw Sikorski — the head of Poland's Government in Exile in London — signed an agreement to form a Polish Air Force in Britain.

After training on Hurricane fighter aircraft, Sawicz was incorporated into RAF Polish squadron 303 and later into squadrons 316 and 315.
On and off, he served as a commander of the Polish wing.

Sawicz was among the 145 Polish pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain, 31 of whom died in action, and is credited with shooting down three German aircraft.

He was awarded Poland's highest military order - the Virtuti Military medal - and was also given the Distinguished Flying Cross by Britain, the United States and the Netherlands.

The Battle of Britain pilots became known collectively as 'The Few' after Winston Churchill said of them: 'Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.'

Sawicz is survived by his wife Jadwiga.  A service is planned for him at a later date in Warsaw.
No good deed goes un-punished.
Both Britain and the United States betrayed their own ally Poland and agreed to give away huge parts of the country to Russia.  In addition it was agreed that Poland could become a Communist dictatorship and colony of the Soviet Union.

American Democracy is almost gone

The Parliament of Canada  -  Democracy in action.

Authoritarianism vs. Democracy
The USA sinks into dictatorship while Canada has a thriving democracy
  • Because of small election districts the people of Canada have free multi-party elections.
  • With super-sized, monster election districts, the USA has sunk into Corporatism where your vote has almost no meaning and candidates are openly bought and sold by Billionaire Cartels of Corporations and labor unions.

By Gary;

No matter which party "wins" elections in the United States nothing much changes.  That is because American candidates do not represent the voters.  They really represent their Corporate and labor union Puppetmasters who pump endless millions of dollars into their races for Congress.

For reform Americans need to look north to Canada to see what America used to be like.

Election districts to the Canadian Parliament are small and average about 116,000 people.  Running for Parliament is fairly inexpensive resulting in many political parties and real choices for voters.

Now Canadians are looking to expand the size of their Parliament and protect that election freedom.

Democracy looks much better in Canada than in the United States.
Legislation was introduced in Ottawa to expand Canada's Parliament by 30 seats to give better population and geographic representation.

The Conservative government is seeking to expand the lower chamber to 338 seats after the 2015 national election in its Fair Representation Act, UPI reported.

When the country was formed in 1867, there were 181 federal seats, which grew over the years to 308 in 2003.

The newest proposal is geared to giving better representation to areas where the population is growing fastest, Minister of State for Democratic Reform Tim Uppal told the news agency.

"It's important that we bring the faster growing provinces closer to representation by population," he said.

The legislation would give the most populous province of Ontario 15 new seats in the House of Commons. Alberta and British Columbia would each gain six seats and Quebec would have three more, the Globe and Mail said.

Congressman John Quincy Adams
of Massachusetts.
Anti-Masonic Party 1834 - 1838
Back in the days when America had free elections.

Today the American Congress is rapidly becoming an authoritarian oligarchy.

While Canadians are looking to add new seats to their Parliament, no seats have been added to the American House since 1912.  American election districts for the Federal House now average a monster, super-sized, huge 700,000 people.

This has resulted in only millionaires or candidates who are bought and paid for by countless millions of dollars in special interest campaign money having any chance to win elections in these super-sized seats.  What the People want has no real meaning.  It is government by and for the Special Interests.

The "People's House" no longer represents the People.  Instead the House represents assorted special interest groups who have purchased their own personal House members who vote to rape the Treasury, line the pockets of their Masters with tax money and cut endless insider deals.

Congressman James Weaver of Iowa.
Union General in the Civil War.
Greenback Party.  Serving 1879 - 1881
and 1885 - 1889.

That was not always the case.

Our Federalist Founding Fathers set up a true People's House.  Article One; Section Two of the Constitution set the size of House seats at 30,000 people.

With small districts anyone could run for and win election to the House.  The House saw everything from intellectuals like Congressman John Quincy Adams to rough frontiersmen like Congressmen Davy Crockett and rail splitter Abe Lincoln.

19th and early 20th Century America was a true multi-party Republic.  The people would form and abandon political parties as the issues of the day required.

We saw parties like the Federalists, the Democrat-Republicans, the National Republicans, Anti-Masonic, Whig, Free Soil, Democrat, Republican, American, Union, Greenback, Silver Republicans, Populist, Farmer-Labor, Progressive, Socialist, Prohibition and more.

American's enjoyed free, multi-party elections.  If you did not like the way things were going then you formed a new political party to represent your views.  It was common to see the election of assorted third parties to Congress, Governorships and state legislatures.  That is called freedom.

But free elections started to end in 1912.  That was the last time more members were added to the House to reflect population growth.  Since then the House of Representatives REFUSED to obey the Constitution and increase its size to accommodate population growth.

With a growing population House districts grew larger and larger until only the wealthy and well connected could win elections.  This resulted is the elimination of our multi-party Republic and the establishment of an ever increasingly corrupt two party dictatorship in Congress.

Since 1950 not one single third party has been elected to the House of Representatives.

To put it another way, since 1950 there have been 13,485 elections for individual House seats.  Third parties have won ZERO seats.

If this election record of excluding other parties existed in any other nation we would be screaming that the elections were fixed . . . and we would be right.  American elections are fixed with hundreds of millions in special interest money that makes sure that only the candidates who are "approved" by the special interests have the funds needed to win.

REFORM:  To reform the corrupt House elections requires only a simple majority of the members.  Any reform should have two parts.  1)  Vastly increase the number of Congressmen, and 2) Make the job part-time, a 50% pay cut and no benefits of any kind.

Make the People's Representatives return home after 4 or 5 months and work for a living for the rest of the year side by side with the People they claim to represent.

A Republic, not an oligarchy.

Real Democracy in Canada.
The 2011 Election in Canada  -  Because of small election districts there are five political parties in the Parliament of Canada.  Unlike the United States, the voters in Canada have real choices on their ballots and their vote actually matters.

'Legalize marijuana' says President of Columbia

President Juan Manuel Santos said legalizing marijuana would help reduce the power of the Drug Cartels.

Drug trafficking is what finances the violence in Columbia and in other nations

Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Columbia, has called for the global legalization of marijuana to help combat the violence of the Drug Cartels.

Santos added his voice to a growing list of influential figures in Latin America demanding a rethink of the policies that have been used for decades to fight the drugs trade, reports the UK Telegraph.

He said legalizing softer drugs such as marijuana worldwide could help improve international efforts to deal with harder drugs such as cocaine and heroin.

"The world needs to discuss new approaches ... we are basically still thinking within the same framework as we have done for the last 40 years," he said.

Asked if making marijuana legal could offer a way forward, Mr Santos said it could and that he would support it "provided everyone does it at the same time". But he emphasised that other countries needed to take the lead, saying the issue was "a matter of national security" for Colombia, whereas "in other countries this is mainly a health and crime issue".

"Drug trafficking is what finances the violence and the irregular groups in our country. I would be crucified if I took the first step," he said in an interview with Metro, the global free daily newspaper chain.

Last month Felipe Calderón, the Mexican president, used a speech in New York to warn the US that as the world's "largest consumer of drugs" it may have to consider legalisation "to reduce the astronomical earnings of criminal organisations".

40% arrested in London riots got government handouts

Chaos in the capital: Riot police stand in line as a fire rages in north London. Today it emerged that 40 per cent of suspects were on benefits
Chaos in the capital: Police watch helplessly as a fire rages in north London. Today it emerged that 40 per cent of riot suspects were on some kind of benefit

The Welfare State
Too sick or lazy to 'work' but feeling fine enough to riot and burn down London

One in eight of the rioters who have appeared before the courts was on incapacity benefits and unfit for work, figures revealed today.

A total of 100 of the suspects were claiming disability living allowance and there were a further 60 on incapacity benefits, reports the UK Daily Mail.

So far 1,344 people have appeared before the courts over the looting and widespread disorder which swept across Britain in early August.

40 per cent of the suspected rioters were on benefits, figures have revealed.
1,344 people have appeared before the courts.
  • Total suspects on benefits: 530 (some are on more than one benefit)
  • Jobseekers Allowance: 280
  • Income Support: 110
  • Employment and Support Allowance: 100
  • Disability Living Allowance: 100
  • Incapacity Benefit: 60
  • Carer's Allowance: 10
The official figures revealed 530 people - or 40 per cent - were on some form of benefit compared with just 15 per cent of the population.

However, for all serious crimes committed last year, 48 per cent of defendants were on benefits.

The four nights of violence in August were sparked by police shooting dead father-of-four and suspected gangster Mark Duggan in north London.

There were calls for those involved in rioting and looting to have their benefits taken away from them and an e-petition attracted more than 240,000 signatures.

Amid calls for rioters to lose their entitlements, Iain Duncan Smith said at the time: 'We already accept that if people who are receiving benefits do not, are not prepared to seek work, take the work that's available to them, we take the benefit off them.
'And if you go to prison we take your benefit off you.

'So what we're looking at is, for criminal charges, should we take the benefit? And the answer is yes.'

Democrats attack Bill of Rights again

The Hugo Chavez-ization of America
Obama appointed Judge and Demo Congressman attack the 1st Amendment to protect Democrat incumbents at election time
  • Democrat voter intimidation against Republicans
  • A direct attack by Democrats on Free Elections & the Constitution
  • A direct attack by Democrats on the Bill of Rights
  • Republicans will have to spend hundreds of thousands in legal fees to defend free speech instead of using that money to defeat Democrats

By Gary;

Don't think for one second this is anything else but a direct assault on the Bill of Rights by the Leftists and Fellow Travelers in Obama's Marxist Democrat Party.

Former Socialist Democrat Congressman Steve Driehaus of Ohio was defeated by the voters in 2010.

In a open and blatant attempt at voter intimidation Driehaus filed a Federal lawsuit against the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life group that dared to speak up against Democrats and support their Republican opponents.  He charged that the group's activities contributed to his defeat and thus to his "loss of livelihood."

U.S. District Court judge Timothy S. Black, an Obama appointee, is allowing the lawsuit to go forward.  Aside from being a Fellow Traveler stooge, Judge Black is also the former president and director of the Planned Parenthood Association of Cincinnati.

In a totally political act Democrats are attacking the Bill of Rights and free elections all at once.

The Pro-Life group Susan B. Anthony List would have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in time and legal fees to protect their right to Freedom of Speech.

This bull-shit action by Democrats is yet another attempt by them to create a Hugo Chavez style authoritarian state.

Attacking the Bill of Rights is nothing new for Obama.  See our article THE FEDERALIST - "Obama to confiscate private property."

During the 2010 elections the Susan B. Anthony List engaged in a campaign to identify and call out a group of anti-abortion-rights members of Congress who provided the margin that allowed President Barack Obama's reform of the nation's healthcare system to get through the U.S. House of Representatives, reports the Washington Examiner.

The Susan B. Anthony List said their vote in favor of the law, which did not include any pro-life protections, amounted to a betrayal of their pro-life principles.

Criminalize Political Speech  -  Driehaus's suit is breaking new legal ground and may already be having a very chilling effect on political speech. It goes directly at the heart of our First Amendment protections and criminalizes what is a difference of opinion.

And in an act of covering up for the Marxist Democrats the national Leftist Media is ignoring the story.

China crackdown on television programs

Chinese reality TV show, Super Girl is an annual national singing contest produced by Hunan Satellite Television.  This and other programs are in danger for being too entertaining.

Communism in Action
China will replace popular TV entertainment with so-called "healthy" programming of Communist Party songs and state controlled news

The State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) crackdown on freedom comes days after senior Communist Party leaders said cultural reforms were needed to "balance" the nation's increasingly speedy adoption of a market economy.

It also follows a SARFT edict last month forcing hit talent show "Super Girl" off the air after a six-year run.

Much like its US counterpart, "Super Girl" – launched in 2004 – proved an instant hit, attracting hundreds of millions of viewers, turning some of its contestants into celebrities, and attracting millions in advertising reports the UK Telegraph.

Under the order, SARFT said the nation's leading 34 satellite broadcasters would be barred next year from airing "excessive entertainment" and forced to show at least two hours of news each evening, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Broadcasters would be encouraged to air programs promoting "harmony, health and mainstream culture".

China's provincial level satellite broadcasters, which official data show reach about 95 per cent of the population of 1.3 billion, have in recent years been pushing to air more attractive shows as a means to sell advertising time.

In January, the southwestern megacity of Chongqing ordered its Chongqing Satellite Television channel to replace popular sitcoms with programming featuring Communist-era songs and classic revolutionary stories, state media said.

Good thinking will be rewarded.  Bad thinking will be punished.

Islamic Terrorism: 1 dead, 8 wounded in Kenya

A victim of an explosion in a club is attended to by a nurse in the emergency wing of Kenyatta National Hospital

Islamic terrorists from Somalia have made repeated attacks on Kenya

A grenade explosion in the center of Nairobi on Monday evening killed one person and wounded at least eight, the second attack in the Kenyan capital within 24 hours, the police said.

The two grenade blasts came two days after the U.S. embassy in Kenya warned that an attack was imminent as the east African nation fights Islamist militants in neighboring anarchic Somalia reports New Vision.

"Eight casualties rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, one dead after explosion," the Red Cross said on its Twitter feed.

The police said the blast was at an OTC bus terminal in downtown Nairobi that would have been busy at the time of the explosion.

"An explosion has occurred at OTC, one person is dead and eight have been rushed to hospital. It was a hand grenade again," deputy police spokesman Charles Owino said.

A grenade attack at a bar in Nairobi early on Monday morning wounded 13 patrons. No one immediately claimed responsibility for either blast.

Somalia's al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab rebels, who have mounted similar attacks in the past in Somalia and Uganda, had threatened major reprisals if Kenyan troops did not leave Somalia.

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry unveiled a sweeping economic agenda Monday, highlighted by a plan to level a voluntary 20 percent "flat tax" on all taxpayers who will accept it in place of what they're paying now.

The plan, outlined in a Wall Street Journal op-ed column a day before the Texas governor was set to announce it in South Carolina, also calls for capping federal spending at 18 percent of the country's GDP while allowing younger earners to privatize their Social Security accounts, reports the National Journal.

But the most significant feature of Perry's plan is his call for a flat tax rate of 20 percent.  Taxpayers who don't want to pay a 20 percent flat income tax, he said, can keep their current rate. Current marginal income tax rates range from 10 percent to 35 percent, depending on taxpayers' income.  His plan would preserve popular deductions for mortgage interest and donations to charity for households earning less than $500,000 a year.

Too little, too late?

It is good to see different flat tax plans coming out that attack the Marxist heart of the progressive income tax.  A 20% flat tax with few deductions moves America a bit closer to a more free society rather than a society based on the Marxist re-distribution of wealth.

But Perry has been in a total free fall since entering the GOP race at the top of the polls.  Here is Perry's standing in the very latest polls.
  • Iowa   -   Perry comes in at 5th place with 6% of the vote.
  • New Hampshire   -   Perry comes in at 6th place with a "massive" 2% of the vote
  • Nevada   -   Perry comes in at 5th place with 5%.
  • South Carolina   -   Perry comes in at 3rd place with 10%.
  • Florida   -   Perry is in 3rd place with 9%.
Considering that Perry entered the race at the very top of the polls, these are not good numbers.  It is very fair to say the voters have looked at Perry and rejected him.  Time will tell if Perry can attract the voters back to him.

New Yorkers refuse to do 'Dirty Jobs'

Lazy Americans in New York refuse to work.

Fat and Lazy  -  Unemployed New Yorkers refuse to answer want ads for Belmont Park . . . Latino workers are imported.

It's a dirty job - and no one in New York wants to do it.

Or so say the stable owners at Belmont Park, who are battling the feds for the right to import foreign workers to take care of their Thoroughbreds, says the New York Daily News.

Readers of site know this is nothing new.  See our article THE FEDERALIST - "SHOCK: Americans are lazy bastards."

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials have said nay to the Long Island race track's request for temporary visas to let in nearly 100 grooms, hotwalkers and exercise riders.

The New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association has asked a judge to overturn the agency's ruling, claiming the move threatens to wreak havoc on the racing season.

New Yorkers, the association says, have failed to respond to help-wanted ads.

And the stable hands who work at Belmont say they know why.

Belmont Park is hiring and Americans are refusing to work.
Belmont Park has to import horse handlers to do a crucial job that New Yorkers refuse to do, say stable owners who are suing the feds on visa policy.

"There are not a whole of people who want to do what we do. You have to wake up at 4 a.m. You have to clean the horses, care for them," said Jose Calderon, 31, who was handling horses at Belmont Park on Sunday.

He said the majority of workers at Belmont are Latinos.

"Without immigrants, this would not work properly," said Calderon, who got into the business at 16. "You really have to love this work."

"There aren't many people like us here," said Wanceslao Gutierrez, 29, a horse trainer.

Why work when Comrade Obama will pay you to stay home?

A worldwide arms race to get drones

A photo of a "Reaper" drone that is operated from the Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan. In 2002, the US military spent around $550 million (400 million euros) on drones. In 2011, the figure was nearly $5 billion.

Death from the Sky
Military drones will become a $94 billion dollar market

They are difficult to detect, deadly and cheap to build.  The market for drones is heating up around the world.  With Israel and China moving into the market, are we about to see a new arms race?

The future belongs to drones, remote-controlled unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with sensitive reconnaissance electronics and powerful precision weapons. Drones provide the kind of weapons system strategists have always wished for: They allow a military force to exert power while minimizing its own risks, and to carry out precise, deadly strikes, without sending its own soldiers into danger, reports Spiegel Online.

The additional fact that drones are comparatively cheap has made them a favorite with the United States, which has used drone strikes to execute over 2,300 people. Most of these attacks have been carried out as part of the hunt for Taliban members hiding in Pakistan along the border with Afghanistan, and those killed include American-born al-Qaida associate Anwar al-Awlaki, who was executed by one of the remote-controlled weapons without first having been convicted by a court.

A "Predator".  One analyst estimates the global market for drone sales will increase to $94 billion in the coming decade.

A $94 Billion Market?

Zaloga points to a table showing Pentagon budget figures. In 2002, the US military spent around $550 million (€400 million) on drones. In 2011, the figure was nearly $5 billion.

Demand is growing around the world as well. "The Middle East will become an important market for drones," Zaloga believes. "Oman, Saudi Arabia, Egypt. And then Asia, of course: Malaysia, India, Australia. And Europe: Turkey, Italy, Poland, for example."

The analyst estimates global drone sales in the coming decade at $94 billion. Should it so choose, the US has a potential major export success on its hands. The only technological item possibly more popular is the iPhone. A new global " drone arms race" is coming, the New York Times wrote.

American manufacturers such as Northrop Grumman and General Atomics would like to start marketing their products to the rest of the world, and their representatives serve as cheerleaders urging more and more new drones. "Countries have an insatiable appetite for drones," James Pitts, from defense contracting giant Northrop, told the Financial Times.

Northrop representatives recently visited Japan, bringing along a 1:1 model of the enormous "Global Hawk" drone. The same drone, under the name " Euro Hawk" will soon be stationed with the Bundeswehr, Germany's Armed Forces, at its air base in Jagel in northern Germany.

A United Nations report lists over 40 countries that have bought remote-controlled aircraft, although most of these are used for aerial reconnaissance, the original purpose for which drones were designed. So far the only countries to carry out drone strikes, besides the US, are Israel and Great Britain.

Victims of a drone attack in Pakistan are buried. According to some estimates, 20 percent of those killed in drone attacks are civilians, despite all the precision remote controls.

Israel Has Largest Number of Drones in Sky

The US isn't the only country that will profit from the boom in drones. One of the most experienced manufacturers of the technology is Israel.

"Smile when you look up at the sky," says Avi Bleser. "There's always someone watching." Bleser is director of marketing and sales at Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a company already hard at work supplying the world's drones. IAI's biggest client is Israel itself, a country with more drones in its skies than any other in the world. No other company has sold as many drones as IAI, and Israel is the world's second largest exporter of drones, after the US. While other armies are just beginning to experiment with remote-controlled aircraft, the Israeli Air Force recently celebrated the 40-year anniversary of its first drones.

IAI runs a veritable city on the edge of Tel Aviv's airport, outfitted with workshops, hangars, runways and a total of 17,000 employees. The company offers an entire range of UAVs, from micro-drones such as the "Mosquito," which weighs just 250 grams (nine ounces), to the "Bird-Eye," which two soldiers could carry in a backpack, to the "Panther," transported by tanks and capable of flying up to 60 kilometers (37 miles) behind enemy lines and transmitting live images.

IAI's most important product, however, is the "Heron." Its latest version, the "Heron-TP," weighs five metric tons (5.5 US tons) and can carry weapons. When the head of the Israeli Air Force presented the new Heron-TP fleet last year, he said the drones could also be used for "new missions." Many took this as an indication that the Heron-TP was partly developed in order to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.

Heron drones are in constant use in Afghanistan, employed by Canada, Australia, Spain and the German Bundeswehr. The Heron has flown 5,000 hours for Germany alone just this year. And with the Bundeswehr's leasing contract on its three Herons up for renewal soon, it might well replace the current models with the TP version.

Israel's successful drone is omnipresent. The Heron flies in Libya, where France uses it for reconnaissance as part of NATO operations there. It performs surveillance on the Indian border in the Himalayas and provides the Turkish Air Force with target coordinates of training camps of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). It has customers in 30 countries, including India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and South Korea, as well as Brazil and Ecuador, as South America too stocks up on drones, particularly for use against drug smuggling.

China is moving in to fill the drone market. An unmanned helicopter drone is pictured here at the China Aviation Expo in Beijing in September. Experts in other countries are convinced China is no longer simply imitating American technology, but has long since begun to work on inventions of its own.

Dangerous First Impressions from China

Beijing is also working aggressively to get into the global business of these silent killers, proudly advertising its own drones with names such as "Soaring Dragon" and "Dark Sword."

Chinese arms manufacturers presented 25 new UAV models last year at the Zhuhai Air Show, Asia's most important trade fair. Some of them seemed simply odd, for example a drone about the size of a duck meant to fly by beating its wings.

Others, though, made a dangerous first impression, for example the "WJ-600," which can fire missiles and adjust its wings to match flight conditions. An animated demonstration video showed the WJ-600 attacking a group of American aircraft carriers.

China's largest manufacturer is the ASN Technology Group, whose "ASN-229A" model can fire missiles around 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles). Experts in other countries are convinced China is no longer simply imitating American technology, but has long since begun to work on inventions of its own.

In Israel, Israel Aerospace Industries is the market leader. Israeli "Heron" drones can also carry weapons in some models. The country is the world's second biggest exporter of drones.
