2019 Update - Top Ten Superhero Movies of All Time

The first superhero movie in 1951.

The 2019 Superhero Season is Over
And 2020 looks to be even better

By Gary;

As the ultimate fanboy it is time for my annual review and reshuffling of my top ten list of superhero movies.

This annual project is not getting any easier.  The newer movies have been improving by light years in acting, plots and special effects.

We have come along way from the ancient days of Superman and the Mole Men.  The modern superhero fills the screen with incredible drama and special effects that are off the charts.

Since 1951 there have been about 150 Superhero films.   Some of them have been steaming piles while others are Shakespearean in their quality.

The superhero has always been with us.  The mythical adventures of Hercules are among the most famous tales.  The hero feeds some inner need to excel, to risk all to save others.  And then there are the supervillains.  You cannot have a Superman without a Lex Luthor.

One thing for sure, we are in a new Golden Age of Superhero driven Science Fiction.

Adventures of Captain MarvelRepublic Pictures, 1941

2019 Additions

The question always is, "What is a superhero?" Bad ass as he might be a Jack Reacher character does not qualify. There needs to be elements of science fiction (aliens), mutated humans, mystical characters (Dr. Strange, Blade) and/or scientifically enhanced humans (Iron Man, Captain America.)

This last year had eight new additions to the list.

Avengers: Endgame

Spider-Man: Far from Home

Captain Marvel

Joker

Shazam!

Men in Black: International

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Hellboy

It is all subjective, but none of the 2019 entries hit a home run.

That is not to say these films were not entertaining. But I would say they were mostly solid popcorn flicks - something to watch for fun.

Large parts of Avengers: Endgame were disappointing. Repetitive story lines, a somewhat forced feel and way, way too many characters.  As the ultimate X-Men fan I have to say Dark Phoenix was my favorite film of the year.  The film's low box office reflects more the start of audience fatigue.

My Updated 2019 List
Top 10 Superhero Movies
of All Time

"Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair!"

#1  The Dark Knight  (2008)

Heath Ledger. Period. Subject closed.

What a loss to the movie industry.  Anyone who watched The Dark Knight in theaters was blown away by Ledger's Joker.  At one time I thought Jack Nickolson's Joker could never be topped.  How wrong I was.

The movie is as close to perfection as a film is able to be from acting to the script to effects. My only complaint is the killing off of Harvey Two Face.  Bad move.  Two Face would have been the perfect villain for Batman 3.

"Never compromise.
Not even in the face of Armageddon."
Rorschach

#2  Watchmen  (2009)

I, like most movie goers, was unfamiliar with the original graphic novel.  But no more.

Watchmen is the thinking man's Superhero movie.  The even longer director's cut proves what a classic film it is.

Plots and sub plots, vigilante justice, lesbianism, alternate universes, nuclear war, insanity, rape, does time exist?  Does time even matter?  With each viewing the movie goes deeper and deeper.

The only way to watch the film is the blu ray director's cut from Zack Snyder.

"It's the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation."
Loki

#3  The Avengers  (2012)

Favorites of mine since childhood.  I waited a long time to see this come to the big screen.  Director and writer Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) showed a big screen talent that should have been put to use years ago.

It is hard to find a part of the movie that is not good. Wonderful film from start to finish.

#4  Captain America: The Winter Soldier  (2014)

Moved up one spot from 2018.

Chris Evans takes Captain America far from World War II story lines and into the contemporary NSA / Sci Fi Big Brother police state.

Cap does it all with the stunning Scarlett Johansson at his side and Samuel L. Jackson fighting the good fight.

An unbelievably well done movie.  As close to perfection as you can get.

#5  Batman  (1989)

Moving up from #6 to #5.

Those of us who had been subjected to the pure crap of the girly-man Superman films were blown out of our theater seats by Tim Burton's Batman.  Jack Nicholson's Joker was a psycho crazy bastard we never knew existed.

This movie took the superhero genre to a place we never dreamed it could be.  Suddenly the comic art form had become serious drama.

The public agreed.  The movie raked in a staggering $411,000,000 in 1989 dollars.

The Batman sequels that followed dived deeper and deeper into a steaming pile of useless crap.  Those later movies are now unwatchable.  But in 1989 Tim Burton broke the mold for everyone else to follow.

#6  X-Men: Days of Future Past  (2014)

Moving up from #8 to #6.

Repeated viewings have shown to me what a classic this movie is.

Based on the 1981 Marvel Comic series the story deals with a future where robot Sentinels rule a dystopian United States, and mutants are hunted and placed in internment camps. Having conquered North America and hunted all mutants and other superhumans, the Sentinels are turning their attention to the rest of the world.

The time travel story lines are over the top good along with action and quality acting.

#7  Spider-Man  (2002)

The first of the Spider-Man films was an incredible event to see in the theater.  Again, near perfection in balancing comedy, drama, action and special effects.

The bean counters in Hollywood also woke up. Spider-Man pulled in $821,000,000.  Just shy of one billion dollars.

#8  Ironman  (2008)

Robert Downey is a national treasure.  He brought Tony Stark to life in a way I never thought possible.  Iron Man is a perfect blend of humor, drama and superhero action.

Marvel Studios updated the Tony Stark legend to the new modern era. The great Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow are a pleasure to watch on the screen.

This is one of rare movies you can watch over and over again.

#9  Man of Steel  (2013)

My dislike of all things Kevin Costner clouded my judgement of this movie. But with the wonders of DVDs I can now skip all the Costner parts.

Director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) does an outstanding update of the Superman myth. The back story of Clark growing to manhood and love story of Superman and Lois Lane are very well done. The special effects battle scenes with General Zod's forces are exceptional.

#10  The Guardians of the Galaxy  (2014)

I am going out on a limb putting Guardians on the top ten list, but this movie connects with me in a way many others have failed to do.

The film is a great blend of action and comedy. You can see how Marvel Studios is trying to fit Guardians into the greater story of the infinity stones that have appeared in The Avengers, Dr. Strange and Thor.

Tucker Carlson: Conservatives DO NOTHING to protect free speech

“You’re cowards, you will be judged.”

Tucker Carlson

Tucker Carlson has slammed conservative institutions for having done “absolutely nothing” to protect dissident thinkers on both the left and right.
During a recent radio show guest appearance, Carlson highlighted how life is being made intolerable for anyone who questions the status quo.
“If you are not with the program, if you dissent even a little bit…they can’t increasingly live freely in our society and my question is who is standing up for them? Who is protecting them?” asked Tucker.

Carlson said that this applied to both the right and people on the “sincere left” who “actually care about the society and where it’s going.”
“There’s nobody protecting dissident voices and I can’t get past it, I’m focused on it and I don’t really know what the answer is,” added the Fox News host.
Carlson then turned his anger to Conservative Inc., who despite the relentless silencing and deplatforming of dissident voices have offered little more than a whimper of complaint.
“It makes me very upset with the institutions that purport to be conservative in our country and consume hundreds of millions, billions over time, in contributions – they’re doing nothing to protect these people. In fact, they’re the first to abandon them,” said Carlson.
Tucker gave the example of how conservatives will disavow others for a tweet someone liked 5 years ago at the merest hint of controversy.
“No – you’re cowards, you will be judged, you are selling out people who actually believe in you – you’re horrible,” he concluded.

Twitter Censors Trump's Tweets

Where is the GOP?

  • Conservatives, Nationalists and Libertarians are being openly raped by the Fascists in Silicon Valley and the corrupt "Conservative" GOP sits around with their thumbs up their asses.

(Infowars)  -  Twitter has apparently censored President Trump’s tweets exposing unhinged Democrats and highlighting his strong chances of winning the 2020 election.
Several tweets made by Trump in the last 24 hours do not appear on his personal Twitter homepage.
On Friday at 8:57 PM, Trump tweeted out a video of Maine Democrat Richard Fochtmann celebrating the rising number of suicides among white men.

But as The Gateway Pundit noted, this tweet cannot be found on Trump’s homepage, though it is still available when searched.

In fact, Trump’s tweet about liberal filmmaker Michael Moore predicting Trump’s 2020 victory has also disappeared from Trump’s Twitter feed.

Additionally, several other tweets Trump made about First Lady Melania, Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), and far-left Rep. Rashida Tlaib also cannot be found on Trump’s homepage.

So-Called "Conservative" UK government arrests father of anti-ISIS fighter

Dan Newey with a YPG comrade in 2017. His Kurdish-led military unit was backed by Britain and trained by the SAS

More "Conservative" Bullshit
Tired of the endless lies from the Right I stopped calling myself a Conservative years ago. I am a Constitutional Federalist.

  • Paul Newey is accused of funding terrorism by sending his son Dan £150
  • Dan's Kurdish-led military unit was backed by Britain and trained by the SAS
  • Eleven anti-terrorism officers burst into Paul's home after an early morning raid

(Daily Mail) - The father of a British man who fought against Islamic State in Syria has been arrested by armed police for sending his son £150.
Paul Newey, 49, is accused of funding terrorism, even though his 27-year-old son Dan's Kurdish-led military unit was backed by Britain and trained by the SAS. After the defeat of ISIS, the Kurdish units have now found themselves in conflict with Turkish forces.
'ISIS fighters get to come home and settle back down no problem,' Mr Newey said last night. 'Yet my son and me are treated like terrorists. The UK has got its priorities all wrong.'
In an exclusive interview, Mr Newey, a mechanical engineer who is recovering from stomach cancer, revealed how:
  • Eleven anti-terrorism officers burst into his home after an early morning raid as he slept;
  • He spent 36 hours in a top-security police station in a cell that is normally used for terrorism suspects;
  • He believes his son 'risked his life for a noble cause' fighting with British troops but now fears being locked up if he comes home.

Phony "Conservatism"
So-called British and American "Conservatives" have lots in common: a drooling love of big government, foreign wars and building, funding, growing and protecting the 1984 Police Surveillance State.

Dan Newey, who had no previous military experience, gave up his job as an insurance salesman in 2017 to join the YPG, a Kurdish-led army based in Syria which, at the time, was leading the international military coalition against the threat of ISIS.
A year later, he returned to Britain and was put on a Home Office watchlist. But two months ago he went back to fight with the YPG for a second time.
Britain's backing for the organisation – and the efforts of its UK volunteers – helped to bring down ISIS's murderous caliphate.
However, a recent chain of international political events means that Dan and other British YPG volunteers are now fighting not against ISIS but against Turkey which remains an ally of the UK and a member of the Nato defence alliance.
Speaking of his arrest at his flat in Solihull, West Midlands, earlier this month, Mr Newey, who requires constant medication, said: 'I was asleep when I heard this frantic banging on the front door and non-stop buzzing on the intercom.
'Then they came in mob-handed, seven armed officers and a four-man search team.
'Naturally I wondered what the hell was going on. They said they were nicking me for supporting terrorism, which was news to me.
'I knew Dan was in the YPG, which isn't a terrorist group.'
Although the YPG is not a prescribed organisation in Britain, Another Kurdish group, the PKK, is designated as a terrorist group in the UK. Mr Newey claimed his son had nothing to do with it.
'I told the police that my son fought on the same side as British troops against ISIS. And I told them I'd sent him money, because I've got nothing to hide.
'It isn't Dan's fault or mine that Turkey is now illegally occupying areas of northern Syria where Kurdish communities have lived for generations,' he added.
'Dan's just there protecting fellow YPG volunteers and innocent civilians from ethnic cleansing.'

The British Police State
The so-called "Conservative" government of Britain spent over $16,000 a day to imprison Internet newspaper publisher Julian Assange inside the embassy of Ecuador on the orders of the U.S. government.
.
His crime? Daring to tell the public the truth.

Britain has gone full 1984

Media stories vanish down Orwell's "Memoryhole"
  • Nationalist Tommy Robinson was arrested by the "Conservative" UK government and all reports of the arrest were ordered removed from the Internet.
  • The "Conservative" Party will do anything in their power to protect unlimited Muslim immigration and silence Nationalists standing up for Britain.

UN - Dictatorships to Control the Internet

(Summit News)  -  The United Nations wants to hand power to dictatorial regimes like China to control the Internet, prompting fears of a massive new free speech purge.
The General Assembly has approved a resolution sponsored by China and Russia to set up a committee of “international experts” whose role would be to stop “the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes.”
However, many caution that the move is merely a back door for authoritarian regimes to further censor dissent.
“The United States, European powers and rights groups fear that the language is code for legitimizing crackdowns on expression, with numerous countries defining criticism of the government as “criminal,” reports AFP.
Human Rights Watch said the list of sponsors for the resolution is “a rogue’s gallery of some of the earth’s most repressive governments” and “gives countries legal cover for internet blackouts and censorship, while creating the potential for criminalizing free speech.”
Governments like China already censor and turn off the Internet during times of civil unrest while doling out ‘social credit score’ punishments for those who criticize the state.
The Communist country is also rolling out a plan to force its citizens to pass a facial recognition test to use the Internet. Criticized the authorities? No Internet for you.

Government ID required for Internet use

We predicted that all this would come to fruition nearly 10 years ago in an article entitled ‘Cybersecurity Measures Will Mandate Government “ID Tokens” To Use The Internet’.
“Under the guise of “cybersecurity,” the government is moving to discredit and shut down the existing Internet infrastructure in the pursuit of a new, centralized, regulated world wide web,” I wrote in June 2010.
The fact that the United Nations is attempting to legitimize this framework by handing oppressive regimes more power to define certain types of speech as criminal is part of a long term agenda.
As we previously highlighted, the United Nations global compact on migration expanded the definition of ‘hate speech’ to make it a crime to criticize mass immigration.
Under a second Trump administration the U.S. is almost certain to ignore any UN attempt to impose its hegemony over the Internet, but if the Democrats win in 2020 it could be a very different story.

'Millions to die by 2020' said climate alarmists in 2004

(Infowars)  -  According to experts, climate change will result in “millions” of deaths, major European cities being sunken, nuclear war and global environmental riots…all within the next 5 days.
That’s because they made the prediction back in 2004 and said all that would happen by 2020, which is just 5 days away.
“Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters,” reported left-wing newspaper the Guardian on February 22, 2004.
“A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a ‘Siberian’ climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world,” the report added.
The alarmist document went on to claim that nations would resort to using nuclear weapons to protect dwindling food supplies, a situation that would “bring the planet to the edge of anarchy.”

The authors of the report, Peter Schwartz and Doug Randall, also asserted that “By 2020 ‘catastrophic’ shortages of water and energy supply will become increasingly harder to overcome, plunging the planet into war,” causing widespread “crop failure” and “famine.”
So apparently, the UK is just 5 days away from being plunged into a “Siberian climate” and millions of people are about to die in a giant nuclear carnage caused by global food shortages and monster droughts.
Or alternatively, so-called “climate experts” have been proven spectacularly wrong on absolutely everything, from Paul Ehrlich’s prediction of millions of deaths from famine by the 80’s, to Al Gore’s absurd claim that the Arctic would have “ice free” summers by 2013.
Just like the much heralded “secret report” that predicted global catastrophe by 2020, none of it happened.
So why should we trust the same people now?
