Is it over yet?
Is it over yet?
Is it over yet?
By Gary;
I'll be honest. "Is it over yet?" went through my mind a lot during the Black Panther movie.
I never liked the Black Panther character. So I was in no rush to lay down hard earned cash for a movie ticket.
The Panther first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 (July 1966) in the Silver Age of Comic Books. Black Panther's real name is T'Challa, king and protector of the fictional African nation called Wakanda.
When introduced in Captain America: Civil War I saw a fairly well crafted Black Panther character. Maybe there is hope for this new Marvel franchise.
There may still be hope, but this Panther movie comes very close to laying down a stinky turd.
The graphics and costumes are beautiful, but the plot was on the weak side.
I really don't give a crap about the dynastic politics of the Wakandan royal family. And I certainly don't like the injection of evil white racism into the plot. Fuck you screenwriters.
But the greatest weakness is the lack of a decent supervillain.
A superhero needs his arch enemy, and it is the ENEMY that makes the film fun to watch. The good story needs a General Zod, the Joker, Lex Luthor, Dr. Doom or Loki. The Panther lacked a gripping villain.
I did not leave the theater disappointed, because I went in not expecting much.

Unlike most other superheroes, the Phantom has no superpowers and relies on his strength, intelligence and reputed immortality to defeat his foes. The 21st Phantom is married to Diana Palmer; they met while he studied in the United States and have two children, Kit and Heloise. He has a trained wolf, Devil, and a horse named Hero. Like the previous Phantoms, he lives in the ancient Skull Cave.
