For at least six years, law enforcement officials working on a counter-narcotics program have had routine access, using subpoenas, to an enormous AT&T database that contains the records of decades of Americans’ phone calls — parallel to but covering a far longer time than the National Security Agency’s hotly disputed collection of phone call logs.       

The Hemisphere Project, an unconstitutional "partnership" between federal and local drug officials and AT&T that has not previously been reported, involves an extremely close association between the government and the telecommunications giant.
      

The government pays AT&T to place its employees in drug-fighting units around the country. Those employees sit alongside Drug Enforcement Administration agents and local detectives and supply them with the phone data from as far back as 1987 reports the New York Times.
 

The project comes to light at a time of vigorous public debate over the proper limits on government surveillance and on the relationship between government agencies and communications companies. It offers the most significant look to date at the use of such large-scale data for law enforcement, rather than for national security.
      

The scale and longevity of the data storage appears to be unmatched by other government programs, including the N.S.A.’s gathering of phone call logs under the Patriot Act. The N.S.A. stores the data for nearly all calls in the United States, including phone numbers and time and duration of calls, for five years.
      

Hemisphere covers every call that passes through an AT&T switch — not just those made by AT&T customers — and includes calls dating back 26 years, according to Hemisphere training slides bearing the logo of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Some four billion call records are added to the database every day, the slides say; technical specialists say a single call may generate more than one record. Unlike the N.S.A. data, the Hemisphere data includes information on the locations of callers.

The slides were given to The New York Times by Drew Hendricks, a peace activist in Port Hadlock, Wash. He said he had received the PowerPoint presentation, which is unclassified but marked “Law enforcement sensitive,” in response to a series of public information requests to West Coast police agencies.
      

The program was started in 2007, according to the slides, and has been carried out in great secrecy.
       

“All requestors are instructed to never refer to Hemisphere in any official document,” one slide says. A search of the Nexis database found no reference to the program in news reports or Congressional hearings.
      

The Obama administration acknowledged the extraordinary scale of the Hemisphere database and the unusual embedding of AT&T employees in government drug units in three states.

But they said the project, which has proved especially useful in finding criminals who discard cellphones frequently to thwart government tracking, employed routine investigative procedures used in criminal cases for decades and posed no novel privacy issues.
      

Crucially, they said, the phone data is stored by AT&T, and not by the government as in the N.S.A. program. It is queried for phone numbers of interest mainly using what are called “administrative subpoenas,” those issued not by a grand jury or a judge but by a federal agency, in this case the D.E.A.
      

Brian Fallon, a Justice Department spokesman, said in a statement that “subpoenaing drug dealers’ phone records is a bread-and-butter tactic in the course of criminal investigations.”
      

Fallon said that “the records are maintained at all times by the phone company, not the government,” and that Hemisphere “simply streamlines the process of serving the subpoena to the phone company so law enforcement can quickly keep up with drug dealers when they switch phone numbers to try to avoid detection.”
      

He said that the program was paid for by the D.E.A. and the White House drug policy office but that the cost was not immediately available.
      

Officials said four AT&T employees are now working in what is called the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, which brings together D.E.A. and local investigators — two in the program’s Atlanta office and one each in Houston and Los Angeles.

Thousands of Muslims are making their way to the West, in a mass exodus from Chechnya. It is the third wave of refugees triggered by the two Chechen wars in the 1990s. What makes the current exodus so eerie is that it is not accompanied by fighting.

In the first seven months of this year, more than 10,000 Chechens applied for asylum with German government offices, almost three times as many as in all of 2012. The small republic in the North Caucasus, with a population of one million, is suddenly appearing at the top of German asylum statistics.

More people are coming to Germany from Chechnya at the moment than from Syria and Afghanistan combined, two countries racked by civil war.

According to Russian state security estimates, some 600 families have left Argun, a provincial city of 30,000 people, where Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov is having glass-and-steel office buildings erected that resemble the structures in London's Canary Wharf commercial district reports Der Spiegel International.

Putin values Kadyrov, because he has brought a funereal calm to Chechnya. Moscow waged two devastating wars to prevent the republic from seceding. But it was only Kadyrov who managed to wrestle down the Chechen rebels, albeit with brutal methods.

In return, the Kremlin provides him with virtually unlimited credit, including more than €1.6 billion ($2.14 billion) in annual subsidies. Moscow also pays for the despot's escapades without blinking an eye. They include Kadyrov's private stud farm, worth millions of euros, and a giant new mosque in Grozny, which he built in honor of his father.

The Chechens pose a difficult challenge to German authorities. In their offices in Berlin and elsewhere, they must evaluate which refugees are merely in Germany for financial reasons, whether the refugees include Islamists prepared to use violence and which asylum seekers truly deserve protection, because they became innocent victims of the Kadyrov regime.

Chechen President Kadyrov claims that such descriptions are pure fiction. His spokesman characterizes the reports on refugees as an "invention of German journalists." Chechnya is "safer than Great Britain," says Kadyrov, noting that the Chechen economy is the most effective in all of Russia.

Under the eyes of his patron Putin, Kadyrov has established a feudal system, more of a medieval sultanate than a modern state.

The Kremlin is practicing a dangerous laissez-faire policy in the Caucasus. It lets Kadyrov do as he pleases, even when this includes establishing his own paramilitary force, the black-clad "Kadyrovtsy," as Chechens call them.

Is Syria a set up for War?

The UK and the US were ready with ships, missiles and a story to justify a war before the UN collected one bit of evidence.

During an interview with Newsmax Thursday, three-time presidential adviser Pat Buchanan joined the growing number of mainstream voices now specifically labeling the recent chemical attacks in Syria as a false flag.

“…First, this thing reeks of a false flag operation,” said Buchanan. “I would not understand or comprehend that Bashar al-Assad, no matter how bad a man he may be, would be so stupid as to order a chemical weapons attack on civilians in his own country when the immediate consequence of which might be that he would be at war with the United States. So this reeks of a false flag operation.”

Throughout the course of the Syrian conflict, the Obama administration and its western allies have continually failed at their attempts to bring down the Assad government. Despite the administration’s claims of an “undeniable” Assad chemical attack, US officials have continued to cast doubt on the evidence.

Evidence pointing to a rebel-backed false flag chemical attack to blame Assad has continued to pile up as public approval for a Syrian intervention crumbles. Not only did the British parliament vote down the Cameron government’s attempts to intervene militarily, A Reuters poll from earlier this week found that 91 percent of Americans oppose military air strikes.

Just last Thursday, Al-Qaeda-backed Syrian rebels admitted to Associated Press correspondent Dale Gavlak that they had carried out the chemical attacks after being supplied the weapons from Saudi Arabia.

The information backs up comments made by Syria’s deputy foreign minister as well as multiple YouTube videos showing the US funded rebels launching chemical attacks with “Saudi factory” labeled weapons.

This damn book has been lurking in my library for decades always tempting me to come back and read it again.

I hate to admit how long ago it was when I first read it.  But I will say it was back when I had a lot more hair and a lot fewer pounds.

As the ultimate fan of the vampire genre I figured it was time to revisit the book that started it all.

Bram Stoker created an entire genre of entertainment that has given us everything from Béla Lugosi to Tom Cruise to Buffy to Blade to the horrid chick flick vampire love films that should be burned and the ashes scattered.

As for the book itself, I had next to zero memory of the original story.  But from the moment I started I realized what a fine writer Bram Stoker was.

The book is a clever collection of diary entries, newspaper articles and letters to and from the characters. 

All our old friends are there waiting for us:  Jonathan Harker, Miss Mina, Lucy, Dr. Seward, Renfield, Van Helsing and the Count.  It is interesting to see how both the 1931 and 1992 Francis Ford Coppola Dracula films closely followed the book in their own ways.

If you are a vamp fan who has never read this book then get out now and buy it.  If you have read the book long ago it is way past time for a refresher.  Either way you will have fun going back to the original material.

Two news stories coming out of Iowa and California are disturbing.  In both cases the stories show the existence of a strange Democrat Cult of Death.

Democrats hate their own culture so much that they eagerly advocate the nearly unlimited killing of American babies through abortion.

But I take it one step more.  Take abortion + immigration.  Yes they are connected.  Democrats want to abort the undeserving babies of the "evil" United States and import the downtrodden and deserving citizens of other nations to replace us.

But I am just a "crazy" Blogger.  What do I know anyway?


Iowa Democrats Pray for Abortion Rights

Iowa  -  They made the unusual decision, for Democrats, to begin the event with a prayer. This was likely in response to a prayer vigil being conducted by pro-life activists at the same time nearby.

Des Moines activist Midge Slater took the podium and spent five and a half minutes thanking God for abortion rights, abortion doctors and taxpayer funding for abortions. She also referred to the decision to have an abortion as “a blessing”.

During the entire prayer, State Senator Jack Hatch and Rep. Tyler Olson, both of whom are running for governor, kept their heads bowed and eyes closed, joining in the group prayer.

The Iowa Republican transcribed a bit of the prayer, which goes on for quite a while:

“We give thanks, oh Lord, for the doctors, both current and future, who provide quality abortion care.”

“We pray for increased financial support for low-income women to access contraception, abortion and childcare.”

“Today, we pray for women in developing nations, that they may know the power of self-determination. May they have access to employment, education, birth control and abortion.”

“Today we pray for the families who have chosen. May they know the blessing of choice.”

California Democrats vote to kill more babies

The People's Republic of California  -  The People's State Senate last Monday approved legislation that would broaden the number of abortion providers. Translation - more baby killers.

Democrats can't use their standard "Think of the Children" line, because in this case they want to kill the children. So they switched to "Think of the women." Of course, if you abort the female babies then in time you won't be able to think of the women. There won't be any.

The 25-11 vote, with only Democrats in support, sends the measure back to the Assembly to approve amendments before it goes to fruitcake Comrade Governor Jerry Brown.

The bill would allow a nurse practitioner, certified nurse-midwife or physician assistant who completes specialized training to provide a common abortion procedure during the first trimester of pregnancy reports the San Diego Union Tribune.

 

Assemblywoman Toni Atkins, a San Diego Democrat carrying the measure, said many women must travel great distances or go without early pregnancy care because of the limited number of physicians who perform abortions.

“We need accessibility throughout the state — not just in urban centers,” Atkins said in an interview after the Senate vote.

been collected.  Now the navy is moving in.

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and other ships in its strike group are heading west toward the Red Sea to help support  U.S. strikes on Syria, if needed, defense officials said on Sunday.

The Nimitz carrier strike group, which includes four destroyers and a cruiser, has no specific orders to move to the eastern Mediterranean at this point, but is moving west in the Arabian Sea so it can do so if asked. It was not immediately clear when the ships would enter the Red Sea, but they had not arrived by Sunday evening, said one official.

“It’s about leveraging the assets to have them in place should the capabilities of the carrier strike group and the presence be needed,” said the official said Reuters News.

President Barack Obama on Saturday delayed imminent cruise missile strikes by five destroyers off the coast of Syria, and sought approval from Congress, a move that effectively put any strike on hold for at least nine days.

The delay gives military planners more time to reassess which ships and other weapons will be kept in the region – and which may be swapped out – before the U.S. military launches what defense officials say is still intended to be a limited and narrowly targeted attack on Syria.

The U.S. Navy doubled its presence in the eastern Mediterranean over the past week, effectively adding two destroyers to the three that generally patrol the region.

The destroyers are carrying a combined load of about 200 Tomahawk missiles, but officials say a limited strike on Syria could be accomplished with half that number.

The Nimitz carrier group had been in the Indian Ocean supporting U.S. operations in Afghanistan but was due to sail east around Asia to return to its home port in Everett, Washington, after being relieved in recent days by another aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman.

Given the situation in Syria, U.S. military officials decided to reroute the Nimitz and send it west toward the Red Sea, and possibly the Mediterranean, officials said.

Thank God for the Internet and Bloggers.  We may have stopped a new war.  May have . . .

Comrade Obama said legislative leaders have agreed to hold a debate and a vote on bombing Syria as soon as Congress returns, which currently is scheduled to be Sept. 9.

But even so, the Anointed One proclaimed, "I have decided that the United States should take military action against Syrian regime targets.  I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization . . . "


An Internet Nut Kicking

The corrupt filth in the D.C. Beltway and Downing Street totally miscalculated the growing power of the new Internet Media and Bloggers.

The traditional print, radio and TV media (liberal and conservative) mostly did their job and played dead for Obama allowing him to move forward to a war in support of the Syrian rebels.  Fox News went over the top showing crying Arab babies and corpses during a speech by John Kerry.  Talk about yellow journalism.

But the new independent Internet Media can spread information around the planet and to billions of people in only seconds.

News of war that used to take days or weeks to spread ignited the public.  Suddenly Obama's lackey, British Prime Minister David Cameron, ran into a firestorm back home and was defeated by his own Parliament.  Kick to the nuts #1.

Kick #2 happened Saturday when Obama claimed he agreed to a Congressional debate on Syria.

A Pretend "Debate" in Congress  -  The lap-dog Elite Media have mostly covered for Obama and the liars and whores in Congress.  The "debate" will be about firing new rockets into Syria.  But the "debate" will ignore the existing U.S. program to arm the rebels

The real truth is the U.S., the UK and their Islamist allies in the Middle East have been at war with secular, pro-Russia Syria for months and months.  Using the CIA the U.S. has been working through Islamist allies like Saudi Arabia to fund and run guns to the rebels.

The so-called "debate" is mostly a sham.  A fig leaf for getting caught.  Both parties in Congress knew about backing the rebels.  After all, anyone with a computer could read the reports from largely overseas media.

The next test of the Internet Media is to fully expose the American support of Islamist rebels.  That is a tough sell to an apathetic public.

Obama posts 800 U.S. Marines off Syria

(Reuters News) - A sixth U.S. warship is now operating in the eastern Mediterranean, near five U.S. destroyers armed with cruise missiles that could soon be directed against Syria as part of a "limited, precise" strike, defense officials said late on Friday.

They stressed that the USS San Antonio, an amphibious ship with several hundred U.S. Marines on board, was in the region for a "different reason" (yeah, right) and there were no plans to put Marines on the ground as part of any military action against Syria.

One of the officials said the San Antonio's passage into the Mediterranean was long-planned, but officials thought it prudent to keep the ship in the eastern Mediterranean near the destroyers given the current situation.

"It's been kept there as a precaution," said one of the officials, who was not authorized to speak publicly.

The San Antonio transited through the Suez Canal on Thursday from the Red Sea, and received new orders on Friday to remain in the eastern Mediterranean, near the destroyers, according to defense officials. It is one of three ships that are carrying 2,200 Marines who have been on a six-month deployment in the region around the Arabian peninsula.
