The Story The Corrupt Media Ignored

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday that the adoption of Christianity more than 1,000 years ago — in territory that later became Russia — marked the starting point for forming Russia.

Mr. Putin’s comments came in a ceremony marking the 1030th anniversary of the adoption by Christianity by Prince Vladimir, the leader of Kievan Rus, a loose federation of Slavic tribes that preceded the Russian state.

Divine Liturgy in Moscow in anniversary of Rus’ conversion to Christianity

The Divine Liturgy on the 1,030th anniversary of the conversion to Christianity of the Kievan Rus – a territory of modern Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus – is being held in Cathedral Square of the Kremlin.

The ceremony is led by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and is attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria. Christianization took place in 988, when Vladimir the Great was baptized in Chersonesus. He then baptized his family and people in Kiev.
