Ukrainian Parliament Votes To Ban Orthodox Church

Ukraine’s parliament voted on Tuesday on a bill that would ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which has historic links to Russia but severed ties with the Moscow Patriarchate following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The UOC has also denounced the Russian invasion, but these steps were not enough for Ukrainian officials, who still accuse it of having ties with Moscow. 

The crackdown on the UOC has involved church raids, the arrest of priests, and the eviction of clergy from the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, also known as the Monastery of the Caves.

The legislation would allow Ukrainian authorities to ban the UOC by prohibiting the activity of the Russian Orthodox Church or any religious groups tied to it.

President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to sign the bill into law since he welcomed its passing. “Today, I want to note the work of the Verkhovna Rada. A law on our spiritual independence has been adopted,” Zelensky said.

A Briton has shared troubling footage of police officers and a mental health nurse showing up at his home after he voiced out the need for Christians to take a stand – amid the recent attack on a Sydney bishop.

The Orthodox Christian named Hooper shared three videos of this incident. In the first clip, a female police officer from Hasting Police in East Sussex tells him "people have raised concerns" about his opinions on the April 15 attack on Assyrian Orthodox Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel. The cleric was attacked by a radical Muslim teen during a church service, but has since recuperated.

"I've got two police officers and a mental health nurse coming to see me because I went to the church and spoke to my local priest about what happened to the bishop in Australia and said, 'Are we Christians supposed to take a stand?'" Hooper said in another clip of the police visit.

"I'm not calling for violence or anything like that. This is discrimination against Christians right now, because if I was Islamic, and I said anything along those lines – you wouldn't care. I'm not calling for violence, just for Christians to take a stand."

Hooper told law enforcement in an exchange captured in the third clip: "This is why I went to see the priest, because of this. We Christians can't even voice an opinion. You can't even have an opinion now without the police turning up. This is a police state."

Last year, the legislature and governor of Minnesota added a new category of human rights called "gender identity" to the Minnesota Human Rights Act. The result has been an unleashing of tyranny against Christian schools and churches throughout the state.

As of now, the state of Minnesota can tell churches and schools, at least those with 501(c)3 status, what they can and cannot say about "gender identity." They can also, according to the law, force churches and schools of a religious nature what to say or do on other topics, too.

As it stands, the new law criminalizes the use of truthful pronouns as opposed to the ones constantly being made up by LGBTs. It also criminalizes others perceived as derogatory language that refuses to play along with LGBT delusions, i.e., transgender surgeries and puberty blockers for children.

"If pastors, teachers, or any other Minnesotans speak or write in opposition to the use of wrong-sex hormones, transgender surgery, or puberty blockers for minors, can they be charged with a crime under state law?" asks The Federalist's Allen Quist about the implications of the new law.

"If parents try to protect their minor children from such practices, can they be charged with a crime? Can their minor children be removed from their custody if parents refuse to follow such laws? And can a transgender-identifying person be denied employment by a Christian school, church, or other Christian organization, such as counseling centers, charities, or pro-life groups?"

On Thursday, the trial of Finnish lawmaker Päivi Räsänen began for allegedly violating the country's "hate speech" laws when she publicly questioned her church's leadership on X for sponsoring a 2019 Pride event and included a picture of a Bible verse. 

According to her law team at ADF International, after Räsänen posted the tweet that asked, "How does the doctrine of the church, #raamattu fit in with the fact that shame and sin are raised as a matter of pride?" she was subjected to over 13 hours of police interrogations over the course of several months. 

Because of her religious beliefs on marriage and sexuality, Finland's former Prosecutor General brought three criminal hate speech charges against Räsänen. One for the Tweet in question, another for a 2019 radio interview she took part in on the topic, and one for a pamphlet about sexuality and marriage called "As Man and Woman He Created Them," she wrote for the church in 2004.

Lutheran Church Bishop Juhana Pohjola is facing charges alongside Räsänen for publishing the pamphlet at the time. Both were previously unanimously acquitted in 2022 by a Finnish District Court, but prosecutors appealed the decision.

“Everyone should be able to share their beliefs without fearing censorship by state authorities," Räsänen said outside the courtroom. "I know that the prosecution is trying to make an example of me to scare others into silence. Yet, you do not have to align with my views to agree that everyone should be able to speak freely. With God’s help, I will remain steadfast and continue defending everyone’s human right to free speech.”

The acronym, new to many in the Domestic Counterterrorism field, comes with a footnote by the writer explaining RTCs are “typically characterized by the rejection of the Second Vatican Council.” The writer makes an unsubstantiated leap that a preference for the Catholic Mass in Latin instead of the vernacular and a number of more traditional views on other world religions can amount to an “adherence to anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and white supremacist ideology.” This writer draws the important distinction between “traditional Catholics,” who simply prefer the Traditional Latin Mass and pre-Vatican II teachings, and RTCs, who espouse “more extremist ideological beliefs and violent rhetoric.”

(ZeroHedge)  A federal judge in New York ruled on Tuesday that State Health Officials must allow employers to grant religious exemptions to a Covid-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers while a lawsuit challenging the mandate proceeds through the courts, according to the NY Times.

"The question is whether the State’s summary imposition of § 2.61 conflicts with plaintiffs’ and other individuals’ federally protected right to seek a religious accommodation from their individual employers," wrote Judge David N. Hurd, a Bill Clinton appointee.

"The answer to this question is clearly yes. Plaintiffs have established that § 2.61 conflicts with longstanding federal protections for religious beliefs and that they and others will suffer irreparable harm in the absence of injunctive relief," reads the 27-page ruling, which offers a reprieve for thousands of unvaccinated doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who would have otherwise been fired or prevented from working on Tuesday if the ruling had gone the other way.

Hurd issued a preliminary injunction preventing the NY Department of Health from acting against any employer who grants religious exemptions, adding that the plaintiffs were likely to succeed in their case.

"The Department of Health is barred from interfering in any way with the granting of religious exemptions from Covid-19 vaccination going forward, or with the operation of exemptions already granted," reads the ruling.

New York Governor Kathy M. Hochul indicated that the state would appeal.

Three police officers were waiting for her after she went to Holy Communion at Holy Trinity Church. She was kneeling down and holding her baby when the police officer said she needed to leave the mass.

When Deidre continued to kneel and pray the police officer grabbed her arm and tried to lift her and drag her out of the church. The officer told her she was trespassing — by attending mass!

Deirdre later found out the main pastor ratted her out! The usher was in the background screaming, “Lock her up!”

The police officers then asked her for ID and told her she was going to arrest her.

She was told not to come back to this Catholic Church again.

(MSN)  The U.S. Supreme Court declined Monday to consider how far states can go without violating religious freedom when they impose restrictions on attendance at worship services to slow the spread of Covid-19.

In a one-line order, the court said it would not hear an appeal from Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley, a church in western Nevada that has been battling pandemic restrictions imposed by Gov. Steve Sisolak. The rules originally allowed casinos, restaurants and other businesses to operate at 50 percent capacity while limiting churches to no more than 50 people, regardless of a facility's size.

The state has since imposed a 25 percent capacity limit on most public gathering places, including movie theaters, casinos, restaurants, bars and religious constitutions. It therefore is not engaged in religious discrimination, lawyers for the state told the Supreme Court.

But the church said the state still treats some places more favorably, such as retail businesses, professional offices and manufacturing plants, which are either allowed a higher capacity or face no limit other than a requirement for social distancing.

(UK Independent)  -  The pastor of a Louisiana megachurch charged with violating emergency coronavirus orders while holding in-person religious services for hundreds of parishioners caused a stir by refusing to wear a mask to court this week.

Tony Spell, the pastor at Life Tabernacle Church who has gained notoriety for live-streaming his in-person services while rebuking the state’s mask mandates, arrived for his court appearance on Tuesday without any face covering, a requirement to enter the courthouse.

He has been charged with six counts of violating state orders limiting in-person gatherings to a maximum of 10 people, reportedly hosting over 1,200 people for in-person services on Palm Sunday, as cases of the novel coronavirus were soaring across the country and throughout Louisiana.

Mr Spell, who has admitted himself to violating the governor’s orders at least 33 times in a recorded video message to his supporters and parishioners, was forced to wait outside of the courthouse as his attorney represented him during the scheduled appearance.

Outside of the courthouse, The Advocate reported that Mr Spell was making the case for his decision not to wear a mask.

“This is about religious and civil liberties,” he said, according to the news outlet. “What is at stake? We lose our right to assemble.”

(CNSNews.com) - Under the COVID-19 rules it is currently enforcing, the City of San Francisco is allowing shopping malls to admit up to 25 percent of their normal capacity and indoor retailers to admit up to 50 percent of their normal capacity as long as people can remain six-feet apart.

But San Francisco is allowing only one person at a time into churches and other places of worship—including the city’s Roman Catholic cathedral, which has a normal capacity of 3,000.

“They allow only one person at a time in a cathedral that has a capacity for about 3,000 to 3,500--if you include the standing room,” Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone told CNSNews.com in an interview.

CNSNews.com asked the archbishop: “Do you think that the city government of San Francisco is specifically targeting religious practice and the Catholic Church?”

“Very clearly they are targeting the Catholic Church,” he said.

“They are clearly targeting us. They are clearly targeting us,” he later emphasized.

CNSNews.com also asked the archbishop: “Are there actually people in the government of the city of San Francisco who want to target the Catholic Church for discrimination?”

“All I can do is draw an inference that there is because we are clearly being targeted,” he said. “We are being discriminated against. So that has to be intentional. Somebody inside there must want to do this because it is very intentional.”

Archbishop Cordileone said that the attack that the City of San Francisco has launched on the freedom of worship is the “most severe” he has seen yet on the First Amendment-protected right to the free exercise of religion.

“I never expected that the most basic religious freedom, the right to worship — protected so robustly in our Constitution’s First Amendment — would be unjustly repressed by an American government,” he wrote in an op-ed published Sept. 16 in the Washington Post. “But that is exactly what is happening in San Francisco. For months now, the city has limited worship services to just 12 people outdoors. Worship inside our own churches is banned.”

(Gateway Pundit)  -  On August 12th Los Angeles County filed charges prohibiting Grace Community Church from holding religious services. 

But a local judge decided in favor of Grace Community Church to allow religious service if congregants wore face coverings and practiced social distancing.

Pastor John MacArthur said at the time that the church was meeting indoors because it was their constitutional right and that it was commanded by God for his people to come together in worship.

Factories, pot shots, liquor stores and department stores are allowed to stay open but not houses of worship.

County officials were outraged at the judge’s decision this week telling the LA Times, “It is deeply disappointing that the Court decided not to grant the County’s request for a temporary restraining order prohibiting Grace Community Church from holding indoor services.  We look forward to a favorable ruling when a full hearing is heard on the matter.”

County officials did not sit back after losing last week’s ruling.

On Sunday Los Angeles County sent a letter of eviction to Grace Community Church.

Los Angeles officials gave church officials 30 days to evacuate the premises.

The county broke their agreement that was in affect since at least 2001

Constitutional Law Attorney Jenna Ellis, Special Counsel to Thomas More Society,  released this statement on the eviction notice.

“Los Angeles County is retaliating against Grace Community Church for simply exercising their constitutionally protected right to hold church and challenging an unreasonable, unlawful health order. In America, we have a judicial system to ensure that the executive branch does not abuse its power, and Grace Community Church has every right to be heard without fear of reprisal. The Democrats’ message to Americans is clear–if you do not bow to every whim of tyranny, the government will come after you. The Church has peacefully held this lease for 45 years and the only reason the County is attempting eviction is because John MacArthur stood up to their unconstitutional power grab. This is harassment, abusive, and unconscionable.”

As Attorney Ellis said, this is nothing more than harassment and abuse!
