The last time I went crazy about a TV series was the cable show "Lexx" that ran 1997 - 2002. Those were the very early days of original cable TV programming. Today many cable networks are breaking into prime time with some very original and entertaining programming.
Now comes the Season Finale: "Welcome to the Tombs." I will be there, ready for anything.
Last Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead featured one of the show’s most heartbreaking scenes ever as Daryl Dixon found the brother he had finally been reunited with — Merle — hunched over and eating human flesh as a zombie. Not only did Daryl find his big brother dead (or undead, as it were) but he then had to rekill him to put him out of his zombie misery.
Now, the man who plays Daryl, Norman Reedus, reveals how he used the loss of his father to prep for the scene, what it all means for the future of his character, and how the cast said goodbye to the man behind Merle, Michael Rooker. He also says to get ready for one insane season finale on Sunday night.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Tell me your reaction when you first read the episode or heard what was going down?
NORMAN REEDUS: I was bummed to see Rooker go. He’s such a strong character and such a good actor. He brought so much to the show so I was bummed to see him leave. I would have liked to have explored that relationship a bit more. And he’s always fun to play scenes with so I was bummed about that. I’m bummed every time someone leaves the show, to be honest.
EW: Merle and Daryl are so linked on this show, but you guys didn’t really work a whole lot together. You had the big hallucination episode in season 2, that one episode after you left Woodbury, and then a few big scenes in the last one, but not nearly as much as one would think. What was it like working with Rooker? I’ve seen him on set and the dude is like a spark plug.
REEDUS: He’s a Tasmanian devil, that guy. That’s Rooker. We have such a good rapport as friends and I think that translates to the screen because we just know each other really well and we get along really well and we’re similar in a lot of ways. It just helps. There’s a lot of understood brother stuff that happens that’s not really explained but you can tell. I know what my brother is going to do. I know what my brother thinks and it translates to other scenes when we refer back to each other. He’s nice to bounce with because we have this camaraderie.
EW: How did you prep emotionally for that final scene when you discover Merle as a walker and know you have to put your brother down? What did you draw on or use to get you to that place of just absolute personal devastation?
REEDUS: I listened to some songs that remind me of my dad to start off. My dad passed away a long time ago and it was a big emotional scene when that happened. I listened to a song that reminded me of my dad and sort of thought of that.
EW: That’s what it felt like. It went beyond shock or sadness. It was like a whole other level of pain.
REEDUS: With my dad, there were a lot of things I didn’t know and a lot of questions I would have liked to have asked him. I would have liked to get to know him better. In some ways, it’s kind of like that relationship. We’re two brothers that have been looking for each other. There’s a chance for a new sort of life there. Daryl’s not the same guy he was back then. There are parts of Merle that are changing you can tell during that episode, and there’s this hope out there that things might get better and there’s a chance that we can be other people and take it to a different level and we can grow and maybe start a dialogue that wasn’t there in the beginning. Sort of like my dad, I didn’t get to ask him these questions. I didn’t get to know him on a level I would have liked to have known him. It’s similar.
EW: Is that the hardest scene you’ve had to do on the show so far? On one hand, I could see it maybe being exciting to flex some different acting muscles, but to get to that place where you need to be must be emotionally exhausting.
REEDUS: Going into that, I wasn’t really thinking Oh, let’s nail this. Let’s do a good job. I was more thinking, Oh, f—, here we go, We got to do this. You know what I mean? It wasn’t so much, let me show some acting chops. It was like, Oh, this is gonna suck. Here we go.
EW: Did you guys give Rooker the standard Death Dinner you have for castmembers after they bite it?
REEDUS: Yeah, we had a nice dinner. Everyone shows up and everyone’s bummed and tears are shed. Castmates are all hugging each other and having drinks and being sad about it. I just talked to Jon Bernthal who still watches the show and he was going on about how good Rooker was. He really brought that character to a whole other level and it could have been such a flat character and a character you’ve seen before, and it wasn’t. So we sat around, had some drinks and talked about what a good job he did and how much we’re gonna miss him.
EW: So what can you say about Sunday’s finale?
REEDUS: It’s explosive. Everybody wants this dude dead. Everybody hates this guy. He’s hell bent on destroying what we have and we’re hell bent on chopping his face off. Every single person wants to kill him, and he’s out for some bloodthirsty revenge. He’s offended everyone on a super personal level. It’s a fleet of bulls smashing into a fleet of elephants. You know what I’m saying.

Footage of hundreds of armored trucks, similar to ones reportedly purchased recently by the Department Of Homeland Security has appeared online, raising more questions over their intended use.
The video was uploaded to YouTube last week by a user who stated that it was shot in the middle of the desert between Hackberry and Peach Springs, Arizona.
It shows hundreds of military style trucks loaded on to a train, presumably in the process of being delivered domestically for law enforcement or military purposes reports Infowars News.

This Holy Week will be full of tensions for Catholics in West Jakarta, Indonesia who put up with repeated threats over the weekend from hundreds of Islamic extremists, who tried to block access to Christ the Peace Catholic Church in Kepa Duri, an administrative area west of the Indonesian capital.
Last Saturday, on the eve of Palm Sunday, Islamist groups made serious threats against Catholics in Kepa Duri, telling the priest and the faithful to cancel scheduled weekend celebrations.
Their hatred was triggered by the fact that the place of worship is located inside a school, which, in their opinion, “should not be used” for religious services.
The extremists tried to attack the site when the priest and some members of the congregation started a prayer meeting. As a result, Fr Matthew Widyolestari turned to the Interfaith Forum in Jakarta, which met with the leaders of the extremist protest.
Contacted by AsiaNews, Fr Matthew said that Sunday services would be held “regularly, as scheduled,” which is what happened.

Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the Dutch chairman of the eurozone, announced that the
heavy losses inflicted on depositors in Cyprus would be the template for future
banking crises across Europe.
Soon they will come for your retirement money just like they did in Argentina.
"If there is a risk in a bank, our first question should be 'Okay, what are
you in the bank going to do about that? What can you do to recapitalise
yourself?'," he said in the UK Telegraph.
"If the bank can't do it, then we'll talk to the shareholders and the
bondholders, we'll ask them to contribute in recapitalising the bank, and if
necessary the uninsured deposit holders."
Ditching a three-year-old policy of protecting senior bondholders and large
depositors, over €100,000, in banks, Dijsselbloem argued that the lack of
market contagion surrounding Cyprus showed that private investors could now be
hit to pay for bad banking debts.
The announcement is highly significant as it signals the mothballing of the
euro's €700bn bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which Spain
and Ireland wants to be used to recapitalise their troubled banks.
Dijesselbloem's comments will alarm countries like Ireland and Spain that had
been hoping to access the ESM in order to restructure banks without killing off
their financial sector by inflicting huge losses on investors.

Drug-sniffing police dogs have their place, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled. And it’s not on a suspect’s front porch.

The court today said officers typically need a warrant before taking an animal to the door of a house in the hope of detecting narcotics. The justices ruled on Feb. 19 that police officers can search someone’s car after a trained dog outside the vehicle alerts them to the presence of drugs.

Together, the decisions amount to a vote of respect for the abilities of police dogs -- and wariness about their potential misuse. While the court has previously said officers can walk onto a suspect’s property to knock on the door, the 5-4 majority said the use of trained dogs is different reports the San Francisco Chronicle. .

Miami-Dade police began focusing on the house after receiving a tip that Joelis Jardines was growing marijuana there. A month later, two detectives went to the front porch with a drug-sniffing dog, named Franky, who gave an alert at the door. One of the detectives said he also smelled marijuana.

The officers then left to get a search warrant before entering the house and discovering the plants. Jardines was charged with trafficking cannabis and stealing electricity to grow the marijuana.

Dear Rush, I love you man. I have been with you from day one on KFI AM in Los Angeles. I even forced myself to watch that horrible TV show you did.
But yesterday I turned off your show. For the love of God Rush, shut the Hell up about Gays and religion.
I have had it. Gays are already being married in both church ceremonies and through government issued licensing certificates. Get a grip on yourself.
Since Gays are getting married in churches around the nation, Conservatives should not be taking sides of one religious belief over another. Leave the different churches to run their own internal affairs.
A government marriage certificate is only for civil matters regarding property, insurance and so on. The government issued paper has nothing to do with religion.
This "Conservative" GOP obsession with people's private lives and sleeping arrangements drives me nuts. A true Conservative should be in favor of people peacefully living their own lives without Big Brother Government dictating their actions.

Our laws often contradict themselves and someone has to sort out the mess. A heterosexual Massachusetts couple's legal marriage would be recognized in Texas for the civil purposes of divorce etc. But a Gay couple's legal Massachusetts marriage would not be recognized for the civil purpose of divorce etc.

Obama: "No Search Warrant Needed to Track Your Car With a GPS Device"
Where is the GOP??? - You would think the Republicans would want to defend the Bill of Rights (tee, hee. Yeah sure they do). Instead it is the ACLU out defending the 4th Amendment in court while GOP politicians hide under their desks quivering in fear.
Police State - Wired Magazine reports that the regime of Comrade Barack Obama is claiming that
authorities do not need court warrants to affix GPS devices to vehicles to
monitor their every move.
The administration
maintains that position despite the Supreme Court’s decision last year that concluded that attaching the GPS devices amounted to
search protected by the Constitution.
The regime is set to make its argument Tuesday before a
federal appeals court in a case testing the parameters of the high court’s 2012
decision. If the government prevails, the high court’s ruling would be virtually
meaningless.
“This case is the government’s primary hope that it does not
need a judge’s approval to attach a GPS device to a car,” Catherine Crump, an
attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a telephone
interview.
Crump will square off on the issue Tuesday with the Obama
administration before the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia.
The question of whether probable-cause warrants issued by a
judge are needed is an open one because the high court stopped short of
answering it. The court ruled in January, 2012, that attaching the device
amounted to a constitutionally protected search because it was a trespass on a
private vehicle.
Even so, in the decision’s aftermath the government disabled
3,000 GPS trackers it had installed on vehicles without warrants.
Among other things, the government is arguing that the Supreme
Court has given the police broad exemptions to obtaining search warrants, such
as with the oversight of school students and probationers, maintenance at the
border, and even searching vehicles and luggage for drugs. That exception should
apply to GPS devices, the government said.
Requiring a warrant and probable cause before officers may attach a GPS
device to a vehicle, which is inherently mobile and may no longer be at the
location observed when the warrant is obtained, would seriously impede the
government’s ability to investigate drug trafficking, terrorism, and other
crimes. Law enforcement officers could not use GPS devices to gather information
to establish probable cause, which is often the most productive use of such
devices. Thus, the balancing of law enforcement interests with the minimally
intrusive nature of GPS installation and monitoring makes clear that a showing
of reasonable suspicion suffices to permit use of a ‘slap-on’ device like that
used in this case.
The case concerns three brothers, Harry Katzin, Michael Katzin
and Mark Katzin — indicted on allegations of robbing a Philadelphia-area
pharmacy. The authorities suspected they were behind a string of late-night
pharmacy heists, and attached the device to a Dodge Caravan they believed was
used in the robberies. The police did not have a warrant.
Shortly after a 2010 Rite Aid heist, officers tracked the
Dodge Caravan and arrested the brothers. Inside the vehicle, they discovered the
pharmacy’s surveillance system and drugs in the vehicle that was monitored for
48 hours with a GPS device.
After the Supreme
Court’s GPS ruling, a federal judge tossed the evidence, saying a warrant was required (.pdf) to put the GPS device on the Dodge
Caravan.
“This Court, however, in the final analysis, has not been
persuaded that the GPS monitoring that occurred in this case is factually
analogous to any existing exceptions to the warrant requirement, or merits a new
exception for Fourth Amendment warrantless search or seizure law,” U.S. District
Judge Gene E. K. Pratter of Pennsylvania ruled in May.

The CIA reportedly has a hand in clandestine supply of arms to Syrian rebels by Gulf States. At least 3,500 tons of have been delivered - some ending up on the black market, with the Turkish government an active player, a media report says.
The flow of arms continues with the help of US agents as Washington criticizes Iran and Russia for delivering weapons to the Syrian regime, the New York Times says. Secretary of State John Kerry pressed Iraq on Sunday to close its airspace to Iranian flights just as the latest arms delivery from Qatar for Syrian rebels was landing in Turkey, according to the daily’s report.
The newspaper cites air traffic data, US and foreign officials and rebel commanders in its investigation reports RT News.
The airlift reportedly began in early 2012 with a Qatari Emir Air Force C-130 transport aircraft flight. Saudi Arabia and Jordan have joined in in November, when it became a major operation.
More than 160 military flights have landed in Turkey over the time. Esenboga Airport near Ankara was the prime destination, but others were also involved, the newspaper claims.
“A conservative estimate of the payload of these flights would be 3,500 tons of military equipment,” Hugh Griffiths, of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, told the newspaper. He added that it appears as a “well-planned and coordinated clandestine military logistics operation.”
Indeed, CIA agents have a direct input on the deliveries, albeit mostly consultative, NYT says. The spy agency reportedly helps with procurement of weapons in Croatia and vets Syrian rebel groups, which would receive the weapons.

The operation was a limited success apparently, NYT says, citing two Islamist commanders.
“There are fake Free Syrian Army brigades claiming to be revolutionaries, and when they get the weapons they sell them in trade,” Hassan Aboud of Soquor al-Sham told the newspaper.
The former official described the program as “a cataract of weaponry.” He said: “People hear the amounts flowing in, and it is huge, but they burn through a million rounds of ammo in two weeks.”
Instrumental to setting up the operation was David H. Petraeus, the CIA director until November, the official said. He had prodded various countries to work together on it.
The scale of the operation increased considerably in November, after the Turkish government agreed to it, the report says. The tipping point may also have been the presidential election in the United States.
Ankara reportedly has oversight over much of the program, down to affixing transponders to trucks ferrying the arms through Turkish territory and across the border. Some in Turkey say Ankara is de facto at war with Damascus because of its involvement in the conflict.
“The use of Turkish airspace at such a critical time, with the conflict in Syria across our borders, and by foreign planes from countries that are known to be central to the conflict, defines Turkey as a party in the conflict,” said Attilla Kart, a member of the Turkish Parliament from the CHP opposition party, who confirmed details about several Saudi shipments. “The government has the responsibility to respond to these claims.”
