A Little Monday Music - Judy Garland

Starting The Week off on a High Note

  • I have decided to try and start each new week off on a positive high note. But being a glass half empty kind of guy I suspect things will turn into crap soon enough.

Judy Garland (born Frances Ethel Gumm; June 10, 1922 – June 22, 1969) was an American actress, singer, dancer, vaudevillian and television and radio presenter. She is widely known for playing the role of Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz (1939).

With a career spanning 45 years, she attained international stardom as an actress in both musical and dramatic roles, as a recording artist, and on the concert stage.

On June 22, 1969, Garland was found dead in the bathroom of her rented house in Cadogan LaneBelgravia, London. At the inquest, Coroner Gavin Thurston stated that the cause of death was "an incautious self-overdosage" of barbiturates.

Her Wizard of Oz co-star Ray Bolger commented at her funeral, "She just plain wore out."
