'Straight pride' parade permit sought in California city

(The Hill)  -  The city of Modesto, Calif., is currently considering awarding a permit for a "straight pride" parade to take place in a local park after a group submitted an application.
A Modesto city council member told local news outlet CBS 13 that the city is reviewing the application from Don Grundmann, a member of the National Straight Pride Coalition.
He told the news outlet the parade is intended to be a cultural celebration in response to “anyone that supports the LGBTQ lifestyle.”
“Essentially it boils down to two religious views of the world,” Grundmann said. “One is Christianity, which is represented by heterosexuality, a culture of life, and its opponent is the LGBT movement, which is represented by an opposing religion and an opposing view of life.”
City council member Kristi Ah You said the council has gotten a lot of reaction and responses from residents both supporting and opposing the parade.
She said if it were solely up to her, she would deny the permit application from Grundmann.
“I don’t think we need to give a permit for anything that when you go to the page it talks about whiteness, it talks about western civilization, it talks about being Caucasian. That’s all hate crime stuff to me, that’s not okay,” Ah You said.
Flyers for the potential August event have already been spotted throughout the city.
The flyer reportedly reads, “Join us to celebrate heterosexuality, masculinity, feminity, babies – born and unborn – western civilization, our wonderful country, Christianity — Celebrate Life!”
Modesto’s potential straight pride parade comes after event organizers in Boston obtained a permit to have one of their own.
Reports of a Boston straight pride parade, headlined by former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos, made national news last month.
