Mindless Action and Other Fun
By Gary;
Mindless binge watching on Netflix. Is there a better way to spend a day? I don't think so.
Netflix knows what we want and released all eight episodes of the mini series The Defenders all at once.
Second string superheroes is not what this series is about . . . third string superheroes sums it up. Simply, if Thor and Iron Man are not available you need to dig deep, deep down into the roster.
Most of these minor characters have no chance in Hell of selling movie tickets. But they will do just fine on my home entertainment center.
The Netflix Daredevil series was top quality. Far better than many a so-called "major" motion picture release. It was good to see the supporting Daredevil characters reunited even though they were not given anything meaningful to do.
Daredevil is there as the draw. As for Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones . . . . I give them a big "who cares?" They are there for the action scenes, but as characters they have no meaning to me.
I take part of that back. Mike Coulter as Luke Cage did a good job with the material given to him.
The bad guys are the The Hand introduced to us in the 2005 Elektra movie. Sigourney Weaver is one of the five fingers of The Hand and the leader. The return of Elektra joining The Hand was welcome.
The plot really does not matter. Bad guys doing bad things who must be stopped by good guys.
Soar to the heavens it does not, but The Defenders is a good Saturday afternoon watch with a bowl of popcorn and beer or two close at hand.
The potential is there for serious plot and character growth. Standing by for season 2.
