Too Little, Too Late Department
- I used to love Ted Cruz, but as the events of 2016 developed he started looking more and more like a snake to me.
- Cruz suddenly becoming born again on Trump's border wall is very transparent. He is trying to repair his reputation and kiss up to Trump in hopes of a Supreme Court appointment.
- Still a good idea is a good idea. Why not use confiscated drug money to build the wall? Special note the GOP (as usual) will ignore this idea.
(Daily News) - Sen. Ted Cruz has proposed legislation to fund President Trump’s desired border wall with Mexico by seizing profits from notorious drug lord Joaquin (El Chapo) Guzman.
The EL CHAPO Act seeks to pay for the barrier with $14 billion from the Mexican gangster awaiting his federal trial in Brooklyn, the conservative Texan said Tuesday.
Trump’s wall, which he originally claimed Mexico would pay for, has roiled congressional budget negotiations this week, though a potential shutdown seems unlikely after the President said he could hold off on his much derided construction project.
An internal Homeland Security report from February said the wall would cost up to $21.6 billion, though Republican leaders such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have claimed it could be built at a bargain $15 billion.
“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border,” Cruz said in a statement proposing the Sinaloa cartel's riches as a force of funds.
