Alaska Democrat Senator Mark Begich should resign his seat because of election fraud.  This crooked bastard won a slim 47%  -  46% victory Senator Ted Stevens based on a phony corruption trial timed for election day.

If Begich had any honor as a man he would resign.  But he is a Democrat, and the words honor and Democrat cannot be used in the same sentence.

A court-appointed investigator has found that the high-profile prosecution of the late Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was “permeated” by the prosecutors’ “serious, widespread and at times intentional” illegal concealment of evidence that would have helped Mr. Stevens defend himself at his 2008 trial, a federal judge disclosed.

But the 500-page report by the investigator, Henry F. Schuelke, recommends that none of the Justice Department officials involved in the case be prosecuted for criminal contempt of court. 

The reason?

Because the judge who presided over the trial, Emmet G. Sullivan, of Federal District Court in Washington, did not issue an order specifically instructing prosecutors to obey the law by turning over any exculpatory evidence reports the New York Times.

The judge quoted Schuelke as saying that the investigation and prosecution of Stevens, an Alaska Republican, had been “permeated by the systematic concealment of significant exculpatory evidence which would have independently corroborated his defense and his testimony, and seriously damaged the testimony and credibility of the government’s key witness.”

Schuelke also “found evidence of concealment and serious misconduct that was previously unknown and almost certainly would never have been revealed — at least to the court and to the public — but for their exhaustive investigation.”

After the Stevens case melted down, members of the government’s trial team and the head of the public integrity section of the Justice Department, William Welch, came under intense scrutiny.

Among other things, both Welch and his deputy chief, Brenda Morris — who had led the trial team — were reassigned, along with two other lawyers from the section. One of the lawyers, Nicholas A. Marsh, committed suicide last year.

Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich proposed allowing younger workers still decades away from retirement to bypass Social Security and instead choose private investment accounts.

I have to ask, what the Hell is wrong with the GOP?  Are they fucking stupid? 

The nation is imploding.  Millions of unemployed.  Millions of home foreclosures.  Businesses and banks closing left and right. . . . . and the moron Republicans like Newt can't help themselves from talking about Social Security.  They go out of the way to give Democrats ammo to frighten the GOP base of senior citizens to death.

It is as if the GOP has a Death Wish or that they are being paid off by Democrats to commit suicide on live TV.

The former House speaker would allow younger workers to take their share of the payroll tax that funds Social Security and put it in a private account.  Employers would still pay their share of the tax, which would be used to pay benefits for current retirees, reports the Associated Press.

"Wouldn't you rather control your account?" Gingrich asked an audience of students at St. Anselm College.

At a business leaders' breakfast earlier in the day in Nashua, Gingrich predicted that the program "would save literally trillions over the next generation."

Under the plan, workers would be able to do one of two things: continue sending their share of Social Security taxes to the popular, safety-net program or give it to private firms that would compete for those dollars - as much as $20,000 a year, Gingrich estimated.

"No one is ever forced into the (private account) system," he said after the speech.

Under Gingrich's plan, the federal government would regulate the private accounts run by private firms to ensure the portfolios were diversified enough to prevent one company or sector from taking down the entire system.

Government approved firms then would compete for consumers, who could move their money among accounts based on fund performance.

The Republican Party  -  Always willing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

A bad American economy along with stronger immigration laws sees some Mexicans moving back to Mexico



Data from both sides of the border suggest that illegal immigration from Mexico is already in fast retreat, as U.S. job shortages, tighter border enforcement and the frightening presence of criminal gangs on the Mexican side dissuade many from making the trip.

Mexican census figures show that fewer Mexicans are setting out and many are returning — leaving net migration at close to zero, Mexican officials say. Arrests by the U.S. Border Patrol along the southwestern frontier, a common gauge of how many people try to cross without papers, tumbled to 304,755 during the 11 months ended in August, extending a nearly steady drop since a peak of 1.6 million in 2000, reports the Los Angeles Times.

"Our country is not experiencing the population loss due to migration that was seen for nearly 50 years," Rene Zenteno, a deputy Mexico interior secretary for migration matters, has said.

Douglas Massey, an immigration scholar at Princeton University, said surveys of residents in Mexican migrant towns he has studied for many years found that the number of people making their first trip north had dwindled to near zero.

"We are at a new point in the history of migration between Mexico and the United States," Massey said in a Mexico City news conference in August hosted by Zenteno.

About 12.5 million Mexican immigrants live in the United States, slightly more than half without papers, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

In Guanajuato, Mexico long one of the country's biggest migrant-sending states, thousands of Mexicans have come back, but "it hasn't been a massive return," said Susana Guerra, who heads the state's migrant affairs office. She calls the decline in northward migration a "spasm" — not a lasting reality.

Carlos Mireles, who lives in the town of Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato, said his two nephews moved to Mexico City after they lost their restaurant jobs in Chicago and spent six months without work.

With the downturn in the economy, Mexicans residing in Santa Ana, California legally and illegally began to look south. In the city of about 325,000, this Mexican flight has manifested itself in a number of ways: Census data show a decline in the city's Latino population. Schools report plummeting enrollment. Foreclosed homes abound in historically Mexican immigrant neighborhoods.

In the past six years, Santa Ana Unified School District has reported a 10 percent drop in enrollment.

At least 10 students from the prestigious El Sol Science and Arts Academy have left in the past year to return with their families to Mexico, Children Learning Center coordinator Sara Flores said.

At the same time, the downtown Latino commercial district on Fourth Street is plagued with slumping sales and shuttered storefronts.

While analysts say it's a challenge to determine the number of migrants leaving the U.S. and where they are moving, anecdotal information suggests that legal and illegal immigrants are returning to their hometowns in Mexico, many to Guerrero state.   (Orange County Register)

Socialism Fails Again . . .
Leftists rack up massive debt along with 23% unemployment

• The Socialists' 110 crop of seats in parliament was their worst result since democracy was restored to Spain at elections in 1977.

The conservative opposition People's party (PP) of Mariano Rajoy have won a clear majority in Spain's general election.

With over 90% of the votes from the election counted, the centre-right PP won 186 seats compared to 154 in the last legislature, while the Socialists plummeted from 169 to 110, their worst performance ever.

Although the 56-year-old is an apostle of deficit control and liberalization, he has been deliberately vague about his plans so as not to frighten off voters, reports the UK Guardian.

With yields on Spanish sovereign debt soaring to new highs at the end of last week, he takes over a country in crisis.

PP spokeswoman Ana Mato confirmed that the party's own polling also gave them an clear majority. "The PP has won with an ample majority," she said. "Our only objective now will be to overcome unemployment and the crisis."

Rajoy is a former property registrar who held various ministerial posts in the governments of José María Aznar between 1996 and 2004.

Spaniards show little personal enthusiasm for the uncharismatic conservative, but they tired of Zapatero, who oversaw a dramatic economic slump that left growth at 0% and unemployment at 23%.

With Spain's sovereign debt yields last week approaching the levels at which Portugal and Greece needed bailouts, Socialist candidate Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba had little chance of extending the seven-and-a-half year period of leftwing government under Zapatero.

The Socialist prime minister had brought elections forward by six months and said he would not stand again.

The Socialists' 110 crop of seats in parliament was their worst result since democracy was restored to Spain at elections in 1977.

Among a series of smaller parties to benefit from the socialist collapse was the communist-led United Left party, which increased its number of deputies from two to eleven.

Thank God the Balanced Budget Amendment is dead



President Andrew Jackson had no problem balancing the Federal budget and paying off the national debt at the same time.  But the modern political hacks do not have the guts to do either.  They are cowards.

The phony Balanced Budget Amendment is dead

The House voted 261-165 in favor of the measure to require annual balanced budgets, but that was 23 short of the two-thirds majority needed to advance a constitutional amendment.

In all, 235 Republicans and 25 Democrats voted for the amendment, four Republicans and 161 Democrats opposed it. The other two Republicans voting no were Justin Amash of Michigan and Louie Gohmert of Texas.

An amendment is not needed.  (Ask Andrew Jackson.)  Congress can balance the budget today if they wanted to.  All they have to do is adopt the U.S. Budget for 2006 when spending levels were lower.  How hard it that? 

Thank God this idiotic amendment is dead.

DANGER TO THE REPUBLIC   

The Founding Fathers did not want a super majority to be needed to pass a budget or go into debt.  What that can do is create a dictatorship of the minority.

Power would no longer be in the hands of the people's representatives based on a majority vote.  Instead the power to bring the nation to its' knees would be held by a tiny minority.

For example, if a two-thirds vote was needed to pass an unbalanced budget.  The budget could pass the House 435 to 0 and die in the Senate with only 34 no votes.

A tiny minority of 34 Senators voting as a block could hold the entire nation hostage to their demands.  The  government would grind to a halt.

The answer is not to give an insane minority the power to block the business of a nation.  The answer is for the majority to do the job they are paid to do.  No more excuses.

Debate - Should Holocaust victims be able to sue France?

The French firm that may want a piece of California's high-speed rail project would face costly lawsuits from Holocaust survivors under a bill now trying to gain steam on Capitol Hill.

The bill would expose the state-owned rail giant SNCF to lawsuits from victims transported aboard its trains to World War II concentration camps. The legislation also provokes questions about SNCF's interest in California's multibillion-dollar high-speed rail future reports AFP news.

Costly lawsuits.  That is the key.  The proposed bill is yet another Attorney-Full-Employment-Act designed to line the pockets of scumbag lawyers in the name of "justice".

Carolyn Maloney, a Democratic congresswoman from New York and lead sponsor of the bill, said: "SNCF's role in the death and suffering of tens of thousands of innocent victims is an immeasurable failure of humanity."

"Yeah, there are complications, and there are ways to deal with that," said Rep. Howard Berman, D-Calif.  "The answer is for the rail company and the French government to confront the issue and get that past them."

Technically, the so-called Holocaust Rail Justice Act discussed by lawmakers yesterday does not impinge on this California rail project. Practically speaking, though, the bill casts a shadow over one of the project's big potential players.

The legislation targets SNCF for its role in transporting an estimated 75,000 Jews and other victims from France to concentration camps.

SNCF officials say they were compelled by Nazi authorities to provide the rail transportation.

The SNCF's US affiliate has been awarded a contract to run commuter rail services in Virginia, and wants to bid for a similar contract to run Maryland's MARC commuter trains.

Turkish intervention OK says Syria's Muslim Brotherhood

THINK.  The Baathists are secular and Socialist and they are the enemies of the radical Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam.  So if they are the enemies of radical Islam why do we oppose the Baathists? 

Now a leader of Syria’s outlawed Muslim Brotherhood said the Syrian people would accept military intervention by Turkey, rather than Western countries, to protect them from President Bashar al-Assad’s security forces.

Mohammad Riad Shaqfa, who lives in exile in Saudi Arabia, told a news conference in Istanbul the international community should isolate Assad’s government to encourage people in their struggle to end more than four decades of Assad family rule says FRANCE 24 news.

Hundreds of people have been killed this month, one of the bloodiest periods in the revolt that began in March. The United Nations says more than 3,500 people have died in the unrest.

If Assad’s government refused to halt its repression, Shaqfa said Turkish intervention would be acceptable.

“If the international community procrastinates then more is required from Turkey as a neighbor to be more serious than other countries to handle this regime,” Shaqfa said.

After mobs attacked Turkey’s diplomatic missions in Syria at the weekend, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu hosted representatives of the Syrian opposition at dinner.

They hail from the same community as Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. Now Lebanon’s Alawite community is monitoring the situation across the Lebanon-Syrian border with trepidation.

A few kilometers from the Syrian border and there are growing fears that the current crisis in Syria, sparked by protests against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, could spill over into the region.

Anxiety levels are particularly high among the Alawites, a community that follows the same offshoot of Shiite Islam as the embattled Syrian leader.

In these parts, support for Assad – and his father, former Syrian President Hafez al-Assad – is strong.

"When Hafez al-Assad came to power [in the 1970s], the Alawite community finally obtained rights in Syria and Lebanon,” said Ali Ahmed Ali, a client at the Tal Abbas barbershop.

“We buy our medications, our gas, even our vegetables in Syria. Everything is cheap there. I hope the regime will not fall. If Bashar al-Assad [who succeeded his father in 2000] falls, there will be no more Alawites or Christians here,” he predicts, brandishing his cane.

In the impoverished Jabal Mohsen neighborhood of Tripoli, posters of Bashar and Hafez al-Assad adorn the walls of some of the buildings.

But in this neighborhood that is home to the majority of Lebanon’s estimated 100,000 Alawites, the residents are cagey and suspicious.

Tripoli has a history of sectarian tensions between the Alawites and their Sunni neighbors. The tensions stem from Syria’s longstanding involvement in Lebanese politics dating back to the country’s fratricidal civil war during the 1970s and the 1980s.

Clashes have frequently broken out between residents of Jabal Mohsen and Bab el-Tebbaneh, a predominantly Sunni neighborhood of Tripoli.

Saleh, the Arab Democratic Party spokesman, rarely goes to the center of Tripoli, a Sunni majority area. He leaves Jabal Mohsen only to go to Syria. It is not as simple as black and white.
Syria and Lebanon are a mixture of ethnic and religious groups.  About 10% of Syrians are Christians.  Some 1.1 million Greek Orthodox, 700,000 Syrian Orthodox, 200,000 Armenian Christians (Apostolics and Catholics), 400,000 Catholics of various rites and the Church of the East (Assyrian).



And the same mix of ethnic groups and religions for Lebanon.
About 40% of Lebanon is Christian, mostly Maronites, Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Melkite Greek Catholics, Assyrian Church of the East, Syriac Orthodox, Chaldean Catholic, Syrian Catholics.

The U.S. Air Force has unveiled the Massive Ordnance Penetrator - dubbed the Big Blu - and speculation is already mounting that it may be used in airstrikes on Iran or North Korea.

B-2 Stealth Bombers will use the six metre long GPS guided rocket, fitted with 2.5 tons of explosives, to smash open underground bunkers and tunnels suspected of containing weapons of mass destruction, says the UK Mail.

Bunker buster: The USAF's $32 million contract with aerospace firm Boeing will see eight of the devices delivered to 'fulfil the Air Force's operational needs'.

The delivery of the super bomb comes as U.S. President Barack Obama today said America would act firmly against any nuclear proliferation activities by North Korea.

And it is in the same week an International Atomic Energy Agency report renewed calls for a pre-emptive strike against Iran's nuclear facilities.

In a speech to the Australian Parliament, Obama said the transfer of nuclear material by North Korea to other nations would be 'considered a grave threat to the U.S. and our allies'.

Obama refused to rule out a military option to prevent the country from making nuclear weapons and said economic sanctions against the country, aimed at halting its nuclear threat, were having 'enormous bite'.

The new MOP is twice as heavy as the 'daisy cutter' bomb employed in Vietnam and in Tora Bora at the outset of the war in Afghanistan.

The 'daisy cutter' has since been retired and replaced with the MOAB, the Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb or 'the Mother of All Bombs', which weighs less than the MOP bomb but contains more explosive power.
