Kristi Noem rips the GOP a new Bunghole

"We've got Republican governors across this country pretending they didn't shut down their states."
 GOP Gov. Kristi Noem

In a Sunday speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Texas, Gov. Kristi Noem accused GOP governors of "rewriting history" after having instituted COVID-19 restrictions like lockdowns and mask mandates.

"We've got Republican governors across this country pretending they didn't shut down their states; that they didn't close their beaches; that they didn't mandate masks, that they didn't issue shelter-in-place orders," Noem said. "Now I'm not picking fights with Republican governors. All I'm saying is that we need leaders with grit. That their first instinct is to make the right decision. That they don't backtrack and then try to fool you into thinking they never made the wrong decision."

She later tweeted: "South Dakota did not do any mandates. We trusted our people, gave them all the information and told them that personal responsibility was the best answer."

Her comments are a possible shot at Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas, two conservative Republican governors who imposed more COVID-19 restrictions - like regulations on businesses and mask mandates - than Noem.

'Hawaiian Day' party flooded by cultural controversy

Retard Alert
Everything fun is either illegal
or "insensitive" to minorities

The Student Bar Association at the University of South Dakota says it was pressured to change the name of its “Hawaiian Day” party because it violates USD’s policy on inclusiveness.

According to the Argus Leader, a student submitted an essay to the USD law school administration, who then advised the Student Bar Association to change the name of the event.

The SBA changed the name of the event to “Beach Day” and then sent a message to their members stating that the dress code would still be the same, which was floral shirts and leis, according to the report.

A second message followed, however, stating that the leis would no longer be part of the event due to complaints by the law school administration surrounding the inclusiveness of the leis.

“It was determined that these are culturally insensitive by the administration after doing research based off of the essay written by the initial complainant,” the message said, according to the report.

USD’s Director of Marketing Communications and University Relations Michelle Cwach said to the newspaper that the interim law school administration advised the SBA not to hand out leis because it could be seen as inappropriate, given it is an item of cultural significance.

But, while law school administration did advise the SBA not to hand out leis, they weren’t told the flowery necklaces couldn’t be worn.

On Saturday, University of South Dakota President Sheila Gestring said she would be opening an investigation into the law school’s decision about the “Hawaiian Day” party.

According to a press release, the investigation will determine if the Board of Regents policies were not followed, and will specifically examine the recent BOR Commitment to Freedom of Expression policy. The release says that USD follows BOR policy 1:32 which states that viewpoints cannot be suppressed, even if they are considered “offensive, unwise, immoral or wrong-headed.

Larry Pressler runs for Senate as a pro-Obama independent

The Loons Are Out Early
  • Ex-GOP Senator Pressler to run for his old seat as an independent pro-Obama, anti-debt, anti-war Conservative.  Call me crazy, but I am not sure what voter group he is trying to appeal to.

Former South Dakota Senator Republican Larry Pressler, made it official Thursday he will run for his old seat as an independent reports KELO TV.

The 71-year-old Republican, who some in the GOP worry might become a spoiler if his bid gains traction.

Comrade Obama lost South Dakota by 18 percentage points last year and has become increasingly unpopular there reports Politico.  Pressler supported Obama in both 2008 and 2012.

Former GOP Governor Mike Rounds
is a favorite to win the seat.

“I voted for Obama for conservative reasons,” Pressler told POLITICO in a Tuesday phone interview from Sioux Falls. “I sense that there’s an early effort to identify me before I can identify myself.”

He said he backed Obama because the Democrat promised to bring troops home from overseas and cut the national debt.

“I’ve been disappointed that he’s been taken over by the military-industrial state,” Pressler said of the president. “I shall propose in my announcement speech, if I give it, that we get out of Afghanistan within a year.”

Pressler lost in 1996 to Democrat Tim Johnson, who will retire when his term expires after the 2014 election. Former Republican Gov. Mike Rounds is the heavy favorite to win the Senate seat.

The top Democratic recruits passed on running, and the national party has been slow to rally behind Rick Weiland, a former aide to ex-Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle.

“We feel that if we can obtain 35 to 40 percent of the vote we can win,” Pressler said of the three-way contest.

Pressler, the first Vietnam veteran elected to the Senate, said the U.S. should not be “in a state of constant war.”
The odds are against Pressler in a strongly Conservative South Dakota.
