Starting The Week off on a High Note

• I have decided to try and start each new week off on a positive high note. But being a glass half empty kind of guy I suspect things will turn into crap soon enough.

"Hope of Deliverance" is a song by English singer-songwriter Paul McCartney, released in December 1992 by Parlophone as the lead single from his ninth solo studio album, Off the Ground (1993). 

The rock and Latin song was written by McCartney and produced by him with Julian Mendelsohn. It reached number 18 on the UK Singles Chart and became a top-five hit in Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, Norway, and Switzerland. The accompanying music video was directed by Andy Morahan.

President Donald Trump has ordered the US military to take direct actions against Latin American cartels, including conducting operations on foreign soil. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has labeled Venezuelan President Maduro the leader of a cartel and is offering a $50 million reward for his capture. 

The New York Times reports, “President Trump has secretly signed a directive to the Pentagon to begin using military force against certain Latin American drug cartels that his administration has deemed terrorist organizations.”

The Times adds, “The order provides an official basis for the possibility of direct military operations at sea and on foreign soil against cartels.”

The Mexican government rejected a proposal from Trump earlier this year that would have allowed the US military to target cartels in Mexico. The Times notes the CIA is currently conducting surveillance flights over Mexico. 

Congress has not authorized Trump to attack cartels, so any military actions would be unconstitutional. However, the President and Congress have long ignored the Constitutional process for war-making.

Terminator Apocalypse & AI says James Cameron

These Robo-Terminators will be used by all governments to clear the streets of those daring to protest against the all-powerful state.

Hollywood director and filmmaker James Cameron is warning “there’s danger” of a Terminator-style apocalypse if you “put AI together with weapons systems.”

While Cameron has previously expressed that how artificial intelligence may be able to help with directing movies, he is nonetheless still worried that his The Terminator franchise potentially becoming a reality if AI gets out of control.

“I do think there’s still a danger of a Terminator-style apocalypse where you put AI together with weapons systems, even up to the level of nuclear weapon systems, nuclear defense counterstrike, all that stuff,” Cameron said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Notably, Cameron’s The Terminator is set in a world where an AI defense network becomes self-aware and begins conquering humans.

The Oscar-winning Titanic and Avatar director went on to say, “Because the theater of operations is so rapid, the decision windows are so fast, it would take a super-intelligence to be able to process it, and maybe we’ll be smart and keep a human in the loop.”

“But humans are fallible, and there have been a lot of mistakes made that have put us right on the brink of international incidents that could have led to nuclear war. So I don’t know,” Cameron added.

Feds Ponder Revaluing Gold Reserves To Market Price

On Friday the Federal Reserve Bank website published a “FED Notes” article by Colin Weiss regarding the theory and phenomenon of central banks revaluing their gold reserves in order to increase nominal wealth without increasing debt from the printing of debt-based fiat currencies.

“With public debt at high levels, some governments have begun to explore financing additional expenditures without raising taxes while also not increasing public debt outstanding. One possibility is using proceeds from valuation gains on gold reserves, as has been floated in the U.S. and Belgium recently,” the paper said.

The government of the U.S. holds 261.5 million troy ounces of gold, according to the paper. Currently the government proclaims a statutory price of $42.22 per troy ounce for the valuation of this precious metal, or about 1.25 percent the current market value per ounce as of the writing of this article – $3,379.40

Of note, the potential proceeds from a revaluation of U.S. gold reserves to current market price would equal about 3 percent of U.S. GDP, according to Figure 2 of the paper. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reports U.S. GDP outlook for 2025 as $30.5 trillion while the World Bank reports the U.S. GDP for 2024 as $29.18 trillion.
