Christmas is made illegal
- The "radical" Islamists Al-Shabaab were defeated to be replaced by more "moderate" Muslims who immediately banned Christmas.
(New York Post) - The Somalian government announced a ban against Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, saying Wednesday that such festivities threaten Islamic culture.
Even though the war-torn country is 99 percent Muslim, Christmas celebrations “could damage the faith of the Muslim community,” said Mohamed Khayrow, director general of Somalia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs.
“All security forces are advised to halt or dissolve any gatherings,” he added. “There should be no activity at all.”
Government officials said the decree was needed to protect the country from terrorists who might want to attack that handful of Christmas events.
Last year, a gunman opened fire on a Christmas party at a military base. One of those killed was American Delta Force members Brett Fredricks, who was there training peacekeepers.
“We [Islamic scholars] are warning against the celebration of such events which are not relevant to the principles of our religion,” said Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan, deputy chairman of the Supreme Religious Council of Somalia.

A "The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property—either as a child, a wife, or a concubine—must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. . No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science—the science against which it had vainly struggled—the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome." .
