Wick Wednesday - Taking The Blue Pill is Great

Blue Pilling It With John Wick

Screw politics. I ran out of fucks to give. I took the Blue Pill and feel so much better now.

Hollywood tries to create "classics" only to see 99% of movies sink into a Black Hole of raw shit.

So why John Wick?

The simple answer is Keanu Reeves. But it is more than that. The fans, not Hollywood, create Stars and Icons.

Wick has inspired fans and fan art.

Like Humphrey Bogart, Marylin Monroe and James Dean, Wick's image has become iconic. A symbol - - - of what? We will leave that to each individual.

Wick Director Chad Stahelski said influences on John Wick included the mysterious "Man With No Name" in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).

Stahelski said, "Look at Clint Eastwood in [the film] —there is so much back-story unsaid there. We're big fans of leaving it to your imagination. We just give you some gold coins, and then it's, 'Where do the gold coins come from?' We'll get to that. Have your imagination do some work there."

The Great Gold Robbery Of 1933

“Everything the State says is a lie, and everything it has it has stolen.”
Friedrich Nietzsche

(Zerohedge)  It's been [89] years since the federal government, on the spurious grounds of fighting the Great Depression, ordered the confiscation of all monetary gold from Americans, permitting trivial amounts for ornamental or industrial use.

A key piece of legislation in this story is the Emergency Banking Act of 1933, which Congress passed on March 9 without having read it and after only the most trivial debate. House Minority Leader Bertrand H. Snell (R-NY) generously conceded that it was "entirely out of the ordinary" to pass legislation that "is not even in print at the time it is offered." He urged his colleagues to pass it all the same:

"The house is burning down, and the President of the United States says this is the way to put out the fire. [Applause.] And to me at this time there is only one answer to this question, and that is to give the President what he demands and says is necessary to meet the situation."

By Imperial order the Marxist Dictator FDR said the lowly Peasants were not allowed to own gold. Only Big Brother could hold gold.

Among other things, the act retroactively approved the president's closing of private banks throughout the country for several days the previous week, an act for which he had not bothered to provide a legal justification. It gave the secretary of the Treasury the power to require all individuals and corporations to hand over all their gold coin, gold bullion, or gold certificates if in his judgment "such action is necessary to protect the currency system of the United States."

The Emergency Banking Act reached back in time to amend the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1917, which had originally been intended to criminalize economic intercourse between American citizens and declared enemies of the United States.

One provision of the act granted the president the power to regulate and even prohibit "under such rules and regulations as he may prescribe … any transactions in foreign exchange, export or earmarkings of gold or silver coin or bullion or currency … by any person within the United States." In 1918, the act was amended to extend its provisions two years beyond the conclusion of hostilities, and to allow the president to "investigate, regulate, or prohibit" even the "hoarding" of gold by an American.

After those two years elapsed, people generally assumed that the Trading with the Enemy Act had passed into desuetude. But the Supreme Court later explained that the act's provisions were not limited merely to World War I and the two years that followed — it "stood ready to meet additional wars and additional enemies" and could be called into service once again under those circumstances. (Little did anyone suspect in 1917 that these "additional enemies" would turn out to be the American people themselves.)

As amended by the Emergency Banking Act of 1933, the Trading with the Enemy Act no longer said that simply "during time of war" could the president prohibit the export of gold or take action against "hoarding" (i.e., holding on to one's money). Now these actions could be taken during time of war or "during any other period of national emergency declared by the President."

A month later, claiming authority from the Emergency Banking Act and its amendment to the Trading with the Enemy Act, the president ordered all individuals and corporations in America to hand over their gold holdings to the federal government in exchange for an equivalent amount of paper currency.

On June 5, 1933, at the behest of the president, Congress took the next step, passing a joint resolution making it illegal to "require payment in gold or a particular kind of coin or currency, or in an amount in money of the United States measured thereby."

Any provision in a private or public contract promising payment in gold was thereby nullified. Payment could be made in whatever the government declared to be legal tender, and gold could not be used even as a yardstick for determining how much paper money would be owed.

Ghana's Gold for Oil Deal - Another Blow to the Dollar

More and more nations are dumping the U.S. dollar in favor of gold or other currencies

Bloomberg reports that Ghana, Africa’s second-largest gold producer, ordered large mining companies to sell 20% of the metal they refine to the nation’s central bank, as the government embarks on a plan to barter bullion for fuel.

Source

Reuters adds: If implemented as planned for the first quarter of 2023, the new policy "will fundamentally change our balance of payments and significantly reduce the persistent depreciation of our currency," Vice President Bawumia said.

"The barter of gold for oil represents a major structural change," he added.

This comes at a time when debt ridden Ghana is struggling to make payments and is in the middle of a renegotiation with the IMF to those ends.

Wednesday by Netflix

By Gary;

Bravo.

I watched all eight episodes of Wednesday over the Thanksgiving weekend.

I couldn't put down the remote and was glued to the TV for hours.

Netflix has hit a home run with bases loaded.

I have been a fan of the Addams Family since the original 1960s show. But the plots always centered around Gomez and Morticia. Pugsley and Wednesday were almost throw away characters.

So the question is:  How the Hell do you do an entire series centered on Wednesday?

Director Tim Burton pulls it off. Burton takes a now teenage Wednesday to a whole new level.

Jenna Ortega does not just play Wednesday. She is outstanding. She now owns the role.

The plot is a beautiful mix of the Addams Family, the CW's crime solving Nancy Drew and Hogwarts.

Simply, this is the best version of the Addams Family yet.

Rated 8 out of 10

Idiot Biden Destroys Ukraine

"We will fight to the last Ukrainian."
Joe Biden

EDITOR  -  Elon Musk dared to say it: make peace.  Russia is once again using winter as a weapon. The war is over. Make peace. Problem solved.

(Zerohedge)  It was only a matter of time.  The recent Russian pull-back of troops clearly indicated a broad shift in tactics, and the one thing that the Kremlin avoided for several months seemed like the next most logical step - Full spectrum strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.

Initially, Ukraine's media spin suggested that the precision strikes were "ineffective", with western news outlets showing only a handful of images of craters in streets and some scarred apartment buildings.  There were limited admissions of damage to the power and water grids, but Ukraine claimed that these systems would be back and functional within days.  This did not happen.

Not surprisingly, Ukraine suffered far more damage to their utilities than the government and media let on.  Later estimates ranged from 60% to 80% of the nation's grid destroyed or unusable and the latest satellite photos of active lights at night support this.  Below, we can see lights across Ukraine on February 24th at the start of the war.

Next, we have an image taken from November 24th.

More than half the nation is in total darkness and the comparison to neighboring countries is stark.

For the majority of the war Ukraine enjoyed near full use of their power grid, internet, water, gas, and other amenities, which is highly unusual during an invasion.  The reasons for Vladimir Putin seeking to avoid damage to infrastructure are unknown, but public optics are the most likely explanation.  With power resources nearly destroyed, the citizenry of Ukraine is facing a long cold winter with little to no relief in sight.

No doubt the media will portray this as a cold weather holocaust, though, elimination of infrastructure is usually the first measure of a large scale attack.  It is standard operating procedure for the US military, for example.  At this point, the coldest temperatures have yet to hit Ukraine, with average lows of 21°F (-6°C) in December.  This kind of weather is not a problem with infrastructure intact, but with the grid down there will be chaos.

Water pipes will freeze and bust across major population centers, leaving only well water. The effects of the cold will be cumulative, and without heating and electric most other operations including economic operations will grind to a halt.  Ukraine's population will have gone from relative comfort to brutal survival in the span of a couple months.

The next most obvious outcome is a refugee crisis, with millions of people seeking shelter in neighboring countries in order to escape the cold.
