Without Hispanics the GOP becomes the Whig Party

Will the GOP go the way of Whig Party?
The Whig Party weakened and the vanished because they increasingly were unable to connect with enough voters to win the White House and have an impact on public policy.

Senator-Elect Ted Cruz:
Without Hispanics "The Republican Party would cease to exist. We would become like the Whig Party.”

By Gary;

Darwin and politics have something in common  -  adapt or die.

Change is eternal in politics.  Issues that voters care about change and the demographics of the voters themselves have changed over the years with waves of German, Irish, Jewish, Italian, Asian and Hispanic immigrants.

Change does not mean abandoning core principals of low taxes and Constitutionally based freedom.  But change does mean structuring the Conservative message to appeal to Hispanics.

But change also means being polite to people.  No more stupid ass talk about deporting grandmothers and electric border fences.  It is not going to happen so just shut the Hell up about it.  Be a gentleman in the discussion of politics, not a rude asshole.

Change or Die.
Senator Ted Cruz
Constitutional Federalist, Texas

Senator-elect Ted Cruz (Constitutional Federalist - Texas) believes that his home state, Republican stronghold though it is, could begin to vote Democratic and spell the end of the Republican Party if the GOP does not improve its standing with Hispanic voters.

“In not too many years, Texas could switch from being all Republican to all Democrat,” Cruz told The New Yorker.

““If that happens, no Republican will ever again win the White House. New York and California are for the foreseeable future unalterably Democrat. If Texas turns bright blue, the Electoral College math is simple . . . The Republican Party would cease to exist. We would become like the Whig Party.”

Cruz said that the Hispanic vote could drive that change. “If Republicans do not do better in the Hispanic community,” he predicted, “in a few short years Republicans will no longer be the majority party in our state.”

Cruz is dead on.  The GOP has to get their heads out of their butts and admit that the demographics of the US have changed radically.

California has already gone from a Republican state to a Communist Republic.  Other "swing state" are rapidly changing.  Florida has now twice voted for Comrade Obama.  Change is here.  Conservatives can ignore it at your own risk.

It all comes down to the White House.

The American two-party system is a creation of winner take all state governorships and the Electoral College for President.  In most cases you need 50% + one vote to hold power and hold the keys to the Treasury to reward your followers.

The GOP must build alliances with Conservative Hispanics, Asians and Blacks or the party will drift into insignificance and go the way of the Federalists, the National Republicans and the Whigs.

Pro-Business vs. Mob Rule
Always split  -  one party that is pro-business and another that whipped up
the mob against business to gain votes.

But from the very beginnings of the nation the two parties also reflected the natural divisions in society.

The Party of Mob Rule  -  Nothing much changes.  Jefferson, Madison, Jackson, FDR or Obama.  The party of the mob, under the control of the Elite, screams against that part of American society that has money and creates jobs.

For example, Thomas Jefferson was anything but small government.  Instead of building up our military against England, Jefferson chose Big Government.  Under the Embargo Act Jefferson pandered to the mob and ordered private businesses not to make money by trading with Europe.  By pandering to the mob and not doing business, Jefferson created massive unemployment and economic recession.

Big Government and mob pandering.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The Party of Business  -  The business party has gone under many names - Federalist, National Republican, Whig and Republican.  Those parties are all united in support for commerce and sound business.

The Federalist Party editorial below could have been in a speech at a modern GOP Convention.
  • “Citizens choose your sides. You who are for French notions of government; for the tempestuous sea of anarchy and misrule; for arming the poor against the rich; for fraternizing with the foes of God and man; go to the left and support the leaders, or the dupes, of the anti-federal junto. But you that are sober, industrious, thriving, and happy, give your votes for those men who mean to preserve the union of the states, the purity and vigor of our excellent Constitution, the sacred majesty of the laws, and the holy ordinances of religion.” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - A New York Federalist Newspaper (Spring of 1800)

Pro-business, private property Conservatism exists in all cultures without regard to skin color, religion or period in history.  The GOP needs to work extra hard to build alliances with business oriented members of minority groups.

But the business-property class of society is always a minority of the population.  You can talk about jobs all you want, but you are up against the Party of the Mob that will buy votes with the money taxed from the business class.  It will be challenging to find the right set of issues to create that 50% + one vote to win the White House.

The Election of 1816.
The Federalist Party went from 48% of the vote in 1812 to collapse.  Increasingly they were unable to connect with with the new issues of the day and a new mass of voters who were far different from the days of George Washington.

The Federalist Party prevents Jefferson from burning the Constitution.
.
This Federalist cartoon depicts the federal eagle preventing Jefferson from burning the Constitution on the altar of French despotism.

The Federalists linked the Republicans with the bloody excesses of the French Revolution. Jefferson and his adherents, they charged, embraced the same “cant of jacobinical illiberality” as their radical friends in France.

The Election of 1832.
The weak National Republican Party of John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay failed to connect with enough voters to win the White House.  It fell apart to later be replaced by the new Whig Party.

The Election of 1852.
The increasingly weak Whig Party lost seats in Congress and was unable to carry more than four states.  It dissolved and was replaced by a new Republican Party with anti-slavery as its core issue that attracted many more voters.

The 1852 Whig Ticket.
General Winfield Scott of New Jersey and Senator William Graham of North Carolina.  The Whigs were becoming so weak that neither candidate could even carry their own home state.
