Big Brother is Watching You - California Police unveil citywide spy camera system
- The Bill of Rights has no meaning to Big Government.
- "We are spying on you without a search warrant in order to protect you."
Long Beach, California (population 462,000) is the newest city to join the rapid march to an Orwellian 1984 State. The city has fully embraced intrustive police spying on the public in the name of public safety. .
.
There are 400 cameras citywide, both publicly and privately owned, that have been linked to the Long Beach Police Department's communications center as part of a new program that combines law enforcement data with real-time video feeds from parks, beaches, business corridors, the Police Department helicopters and other sources throughout the city.
. .
The new program, dubbed Long Beach Common Operating Picture, or Long Beach COP, was officially launched Monday by Police Chief Jim McDonnell and Mayor Bob Foster reports the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
Members of the media were given demonstrations of the new technology, which is controlled through six computer stations linked to specialized databases that provide information on anything from license plate numbers and vehicle registration to a suspect's past criminal history.
The live feeds are broadcast on a bank of big screen monitors at one end of the Police Department's communications center.
The program, which has been two years in the planning, was funded almost entirely by federal grants.

The US Government is spying on EVERYONE!
- Government e-mails released by Wikileaks shows a vast and centralized international Big Brother spy system.
Anyone who takes a photograph at high-risk locations is logged as a suspected terrorist on a vast network of secret spy cameras linked to the U.S. Government, according to leaked emails.
.
People pointing cameras in New York are regarded as suspicious and the facial recognition images of them from the civilian British CCTV are fed into a data centre run by U.S. firm Abraxas.
.
.
The system then connects with hundreds of other cameras in a bid to pinpoint potential terrorist activity, reports the UK Daily Mail.
Details of the system emerged from emails released by whistle-blowing website Wikileaks. The issue has caused outrage among privacy campaigners amid fears that it could be abused.
.
According to the email released by Wikileaks, pictures of people's faces are encrypted and sent to a fortified data centre at a secret location.
.
The TrapWire system is linked to civilian CCTV cameras.
.
More than 500 cameras using the technology have been installed on the New York subway. There are estimated to be thousands more around various U.S. cities, Canada and in cities like London.
