Why were U.S. patrol boats in Iranian waters?

I Smell Bullshit!

  • Putting these boats in Iranian waters is a military joke.

(AP) -- Iran was holding 10 U.S. Navy sailors and their two small boats that drifted into Iranian waters with mechanical problems.

Iran accused the sailors of trespassing but American officials said Tehran has assured them that the crew and vessels would be returned safely and promptly.

The sailors were expected to be transferred to U.S. custody Wednesday morning local time.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook told The Associated Press that the riverine boats were moving between Kuwait and Bahrain when the U.S. lost contact with them.

Republican lawmakers seized on the incident as further evidence that Iran is not to be trusted.

.
Hell, we have near ZERO information on events, but the GOP just can't step back and use common sense.

As well as playing down reports of a prompt release of the sailors, Iran is said to be demanding an apology from the US after its sailors were arrested for "violating" Iran's waters.
