Governor William McKinley and his dignified front porch campaign for President in 1896. |
Dignity - The elections for President totally lack any dignity. . . . . Bring back the front porch campaign.
By Gary;
Governor Mitt Romney won a landslide victory in Puerto Rico and will no doubt win Illinois this week. But the GOP primary is an ugly thing to look at.
For almost a year the candidates have been disemboweling themselves on live TV. That might be good blood sport in the Roman Coliseum for the drooling masses, but that is not the way to win an election.
The insane endless debates and marathon primaries must end. The old time Party Conventions look pretty good right now. The delegates might fight a bit and perhaps hold 30 to 50 ballots to select a nominee, but the public bloodletting lasted only a couple of days. The current system never ends and is now approaching nearly two years of campaigning before the convention.
Maybe I am old fashioned, but showing a little class is not a lot to ask for in the primary.
