As the world goes to Hell a few thoughts from Watchmen

"This city is dying of rabies. Is the best I can do to wipe random flecks of foam from its lips?"
Watchmen

Editor  -  The slaughter of policemen in Texas is just icing on the cake. It is just me, but the insanity of this world took me to re-read the strange and very depressing philosophy of the graphic novel and movie WatchmenThe entire world is going to Hell. So buckle up and enjoy the ride and the Watchmen quotes.

“They claim their labours are to build a heaven yet their heaven is populated with horrors. Perhaps the world is not made. Perhaps nothing is made. A clock without a craftsman. It's too late. Always has been, always will be…too late.”

This city is afraid of me...I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No."

"Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forcesIt is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It’s us. Only us."

“You know what I wish? I wish all the scum of the Earth had one throat and I had my hands about it.”

“Truly, whoever we are, wherever we reside, we exist upon the whim of murderers.”

(Watchmen)

"They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed in the footsteps of good men like my father or President Truman. Decent men who believed in a day's work for a day's pay. Instead they followed the droppings of lechers and communists and didn't realize that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late. Don't tell me they didn't have a choice.
.
Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody Hell, all those liberals and intellectuals and smooth-talkers... and all of a sudden nobody can think of anything to say."

“Why do we argue? Life's so fragile, a successful virus clinging to a speck of mud, suspended in endless nothing.”
