Harry Reid and John McCain attack Free Speech

David Koch - Libertarian
  • No wonder John McCain, Harry Reid and the Elite D.C Establishment hate the Koch brothers.  Congress doesn't want those rich libertarians using free speech to influence elections and elect non-Marxists to office.
  • Republicans claim to be happy about the Court's ruling for free speech.  But it was only a few years ago that Republicans and Democrats joined arm-in-arm to limit political speech with the Fascist McCain-Feingold Act.

Democratic and some GOP lawmakers along with campaign finance "reform" advocates (who want free speech limited) attacked the Supreme Court for daring to allow free political speech through donations to candidates.

Meanwhile, Republicans largely cheered the ruling from the narrowly divided court, which found it unconstitutional to impose caps on the aggregate amounts that one person can donate to campaigns, parties and political action committees. [...]

Responding to the decision, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) invoked his favorite boogeymen: the Koch brothers.

“The Supreme Court today just accentuated what they did on Citizens United, which is a decision that is one of the worst decisions in the history of that court,” Reid said during a press conference on raising the minimum wage. “All it does is take away people’s rights because, as you know, the Koch brothers are trying to buy America.”

Meanwhile 2008 GOP nominee Senator John McCain  the author of the unconstitutional 2002 McCain-Feingold law that clamped down on soft-money contributions, said he was “disappointed” by Wednesday’s ruling — calling it the latest move from justices to “dismantle entirely the longstanding structure of campaign finance law.”

“I predict that as a result of recent court decisions, there will be scandals involving corrupt public officials and unlimited, anonymous campaign contributions that will force the system to be reformed once again,” McCain said.

McCain did not bother to mention the 1st Amendment and the right of the people to free political speech.

The Fascist McCain-Feingold Act
Once again the eternal question - What is the Republican Party?
.
The corrupt "bi-partisan" McCain-Feingold Act directly attacked the 1st Amendment and your right to political freedom of speech.  It passed the GOP controlled House in 2002 with a 240–189 vote.  It passed an evenly split Senate in 2002 with a 60–40 vote.  It was then signed into law by "small government" President Bush who could have vetoed the bill.
.
The Republican Party rewarded John McCain for his attack on the 1st Amendment by making him their 2008 nominee for President.
