(Free Beacon) - Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren endorsed a Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) policy proposal that includes taxpayer-funded welfare benefits for illegal immigrants.
Ocasio-Cortez's proposal, dubbed "A Just Society," calls for nationwide rent control and bans the federal government from denying welfare benefits based on an individual's immigration status and previous criminal convictions.
Warren became the first Democratic presidential candidate to endorse the plan, calling it "just the type of bold, comprehensive thinking we'll need" to make "big, structural change."
Ocasio-Cortez is considered to be "one of the most important endorsements in America," and Warren's immediate support of her latest policy marks another attempt to win the freshman congressman's nod of approval. Warren's quick embrace of Ocasio-Cortez's plan is the latest sign of the social media superstar's policy impact on the Democratic presidential field.
Neither Ocasio-Cortez nor Warren returned requests for comment.
Ocasio-Cortez's proposal, consisting of six separate bills, calls for the expansion of welfare. Bills three and four make it illegal for the federal government to deny welfare benefits to ex-convicts and illegal immigrants. The legislation does not address how to pay for the rising cost of welfare, nor does it explain how it would accomplish its goals.
Ocasio-Cortez's second bill, titled "The Place to Prosper Act," calls for federal rent control by imposing a 3 percent national cap on annual rent increases.

I have no problem with an Electoral College that gave us Presidents like Washington, Jackson, Lincoln to Trump.
The misuse of the word "democracy" is wide spread. Most of the "democracies" of the world are parliamentary in form. Prime Minster Theresa May of Britain was only elected by 74,000 people in her local district.
The same pattern is seen for Prime Ministers in nations like Japan, Australia, India or Canada. All are only elected by small districts. Not by the nation at large.

On Sunday, the Democratic governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, stated that he would sign a bill allowing his state to circumvent the Electoral College, giving his state’s electoral votes to whomever won the national popular vote, thus allowing population heavy areas to determine the presidential election.
Polis told The Hill that he viewed the Electoral College as an “undemocratic relic,” adding, “I’ve long supported electing the president by who gets the most votes. It’s a way to move towards direct election of the president.”
If states whose electoral count totals 270 votes vote similar to the proposed Colorado bill, then they would combine their electoral votes and award them to the national popular vote winner, thus making that candidate the president. Currently, the number of electoral votes totaled in favor of such a position total 172, including 12 blue states and the District of Columbia. 11 more states have bills in their legislature similar to Colorado’s; their combined 89 electoral votes would put the proposal over the top.
John Koza, who chairs National Popular Vote, claimed, “Under a national popular vote, the 38 nonbattleground states long ignored by presidential campaigns will be powerful again, because no candidate can win 270 electoral votes and the White House without also winning the popular vote across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.”

Comrade Obama carried 5 Pennsylvania congressional districts, giving him 7 electoral college votes (including his 2 for winning statewide) to Mitt Romney’s 13 votes.

State Reps. Robert Godshall (R-Montco) and Seth Grove (R-York) want Pennsylvania to divvy ups its electoral college votes by congressional district. It’s a plan originally pitched by Sen. Dominic Pileggi in 2011 and would have nullified President Obama’s Pa. advantage had it been in effect in 2012.
In their co-sponsorship memo, they essentially concede that Pa. is no longer a competitive presidential state.
“I believe that the Congressional District Method will increase voter turnout and encourage candidates to campaign in all states rather than just those that are competitive,” the two wrote. “Most importantly, this method of selecting presidential electors will give a stronger voice to voters in all regions of our great Commonwealth.”
Mitt Romney carried Pennsylvania. If voters selected Presidential Electors district by district Romney would have carried the state.

Once a reliable battleground state, Pennsylvania spent most of the 2012 presidential campaign on the sidelines.
The plan would give one electoral vote to the winner of each congressional district plus 2 for the winner statewide.
Obama won Pa. by about 310,000 votes – 5.4 percent. But it looks like he won just 5 congressional districts, giving him 7 electoral college votes (including his 2 for winning statewide) to Mitt Romney’s 13.
That’s because Republican map-drawers packed Democratic voters into high concentration urban districts. The state’s 13 Republican members of Congress won by an average of 19.5 percent; the closest margin, CD-13, was 3.4 points. The state’s 5 Democratic members of congress won by an average of 52.5 percent; the closest margin, CD-17, was 20.6 points. That’s an average difference of 33 points.

Editor’s note: we’re keeping our eye on the DailyKos tabulations of presidential vote by congressional district which so far have just 4 of 18 districts. The 6th, 7th and 15th districts are the only ones represented by a Republican Congressman where Obama conceivably could have won. The most interesting so far: Romney narrowly won Mike Fitzpatrick’s 8th congressional district, 49.4 percent to Obama’s 49.3 percent.
Pileggi’s plan lost steam back in 2011 and he recently introduced a modified version that would allocate electoral votes proportionally with no relation to congressional districts.
Democratic critics note that no such effort is taking place in reliably Republican presidential states like Texas, where the same proposal would benefit Democratic candidates. . (politicspa.com)

That window of victory in the Electoral College gets more narrow every election for the right-of-center Republicans. In the Presidential race the GOP has lost all of New England and the Mid-Atlantic states down to Virginia, lost the Great Lakes states, lost Florida again and lost the entire West Coast.
To be a winning party you need to be a true nationwide party.
New England is a good example. In the next Congress, there won’t be a single Republican House member from the entire region of New England and just two Senators: Susan Collins of Maine and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire. The only two GOP House members from all of New England were defeated in New Hampshire.

Even with a Massachusetts Governor as the Republican nominee the election was a disaster. Mitt Romney did not even bother to try and carry his home state and failed to carry any New England state.
Some in the party said the trouble this year was mechanical in nature and blame presidential turnout and polling for their losses. Others are of the thought that until the GOP changes its tone about social issues, any Republican will have a difficult time winning federal office in New England.

The last time congressional Republicans were practically decimated in the region was 2006 and 2008, banner years for Democrats. Then, the problem was Iraq. Now it is social issues.
Many thoughtful Republicans blame stupid candidates like Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock and Missouri Senate hopeful Todd Akin for exacerbating the problem with remarks about rape.
Many also blame the lengthy GOP presidential primary they said lasted too long and brought up issues in endless live debate after debate on TV that do play well in many areas of the country. True believers love to have that red meat thrown at them, but not all issues need to be shoved in people's faces with glee. Tact is important.

Compare those numbers to Texas where Hispanics, Blacks and Asians together make up 52% of the population.
State Legislatures - The state elections are also a disaster for Republicans. In New Hampshire the GOP lost the lower house while in Maine Republicans lost both the House and Senate.
The only legislative chamber Republicans control in the entire region is the New Hampshire state Senate.
The GOP needs to get out of people's lives and bedrooms
Campaign on jobs, privacy, property rights and the Bill of Rights.
Freedom. What a novel concept. Leaving people alone might even win votes.
Bread and Butter - The GOP needs to win the hearts and minds of a huge mass of voters. People always vote their pocketbooks. That is why Socialist Democrats are popular. They love to steal other people's money and give it away to buy votes.
Giveaways are fun for all, but employment is #1 to the folks. Republicans need to stick to bread and butter issues at the Federal level like jobs and the taxes and debt that crushes job creation. Always structure your position around helping voters to have a job to feed their kids.
Embrace the Bill of Rights.

The Bill of Rights - Republicans need to read the Bill of Rights. Really read it and really understand it. Add in the Federalist Papers for some bedside reading.
I know that reading and understanding these documents is a major step for the Big Government loving GOP.
If Republicans follow the Bill of Rights they can deflect 90% of hot button fucking insane social issues to the states as per the 10th Amendment.
If the GOP understood the Bill of Rights they could campaign against the Big Brother surveillance society instead of voting with Democrats to create it.
You cannot be an "opposition" party to the Democrats when you work with them to grow a massive, centralized unconstitutional Orwellian State.

The map of party control of state legislatures looks somewhat better for Republicans than the Electoral College map which is a disaster. But the real action is with spending and Big Brother government in Washington, not at the state level.
Obama will crush Capitalism through appointments to un-elected boards, commissions and endless Federal red tape.

Let's get to the bottom line. I noted some time back a shift in the culture of the United States.
Call if the rise of a Looter and Moocher Class. This election proves there is a majority of voters who want to take from the Treasury rather than produce wealth for themselves and the nation.
In past Presidential elections held during massive Depressions the party in power usually got their asses kicked.
Not this time.
Drooling Serf-like voters lined up behind candidates who promised to print pretend magic Monopoly money or steal the incomes of the producers and re-distribute the wealth.

The Looters want their Obamaphones, food stamps, free rent, medical care . . . . all services to be provided by unionized government employee labor unions who fund the Democrats with their dues.

The Republican Party nominated two candidates who were so weak that they were incapable of winning their own states in the election. Neither Romney nor Ryan brought anything to the Electoral College table.

Two college professors predict a 269-269 Electoral College tie.
A GOP House would select Romney for President.
A Democrat Senate would select Biden as Vice President.
An unusual speculation on the election outcome emanates from a small campus in Buffalo, N.Y.: agitated America could end up with President Mitt Romney and Vice President Joseph R. Biden, insist Canisius College political science professors Michael Haselswerdt, a Democrat, and Kevin Hardwick, a Republican.
The race is so close that there’s a viable chance that the presidential candidates could split the electoral votes evenly, 269-269.
‘“If that happens, the House, which I believe will retain the Republican majority, will decide the president,” explains Hardwick. “The Senate, which should retain the Democratic majority, will decide the vice president. That means that Joe Biden would be vice president for the next four years under President Mitt Romney. We would have the ‘Odd Couple’ on steroids.”

It’s happened three times. In 1800, the protocol broke an electoral tie between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. Jefferson won. In 1824, it decided a four-way race that ultimately elected John Quincy Adams. And in 1876, it decided the infamous Samuel J. Tilden vs. Rutherford B. Hayes race. Hayes won.
“It’s more possible this time than it has been in a long time,” adds Haselswerdt, who says that electors would have until Dec. 17 to vote in their respective states. Congress would vote on its first day back in session, on or around Jan. 6.
“To think that Congress would have to make that decision, when its approval rating is now inching into the double digits, is pretty wild,” the professor observes.

The Massachusetts Democrat-Republican Party drew the State Senate districts in such a way as to prevent free elections and keep the Federalist Party out of power. Governor Elbridge Gerry signed the bill rigging the election in favor of his party. When mapped, one of the contorted districts in the Boston area was said to resemble the shape of a salamander. . . . now a Gerry-mander in "honor" of the Governor.

But now Pennsylvania to looking to drag us into the category of being a political joke.
Pennsylvania state Republican leaders have been pushing a plan to radically change the 2012 Presidential election. If they succeed — and the GOP now controls both the state legislature and executive branch — it could cost Obama, who carried Pennsylvania in 2008, at least half of the state’s electoral votes in 2012.
Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, a Republican from Chester, proposes to switch from the traditional winner-take-all system for electoral voters to a format that would award electoral votes based on the winner of each of the state’s 18 individual congressional districts. The winner of the statewide vote would receive two electoral votes, reports the Washington Times.
Pennsylvania has the right
Under the Constitution all states can select their Presidential electors any way they want. Pennsylvania can do this if it wants to. But to have our system of electing a President based on which party carries corrupt gerrymandered districts is near insanity.
Congressional District lines are drawn by the two political parties in order to prevent free elections. That is the dark and dirty secret of American democracy.
The Electoral College itself is a relic of the past. Since the 1820s the people of the U.S. expect to have the right to select their Presidents by their vote on a state-by-state basis. To go down this road of selecting Presidents based on corrupt districts could destablize the nation and the political process.
The effect in Pennsylvania
“Pennsylvania is a very diverse state, and the diversity is lost in a winner-take-all system,” Mr. Pileggi said in an interview. “We want to make sure individual Pennsylvania citizens know their vote is going to matter.”
The proposal, which will be the subject of a legislative hearing in a few weeks, has raised protests from Democrats who claim Senator Pileggi is motivated by partisanship. Former Democratic Governor Ed Rendell, who argues that Pennsylvania now is the third most important swing state behind Florida and Ohio, called the move “blatantly political.”
One practical effect of the proposal would be to neutralize clout of Democratic-dominated Philadelphia. Democrats often joke that Pennsylvania consists of the progressive bastions of Philadelphia in the east and Pittsburgh in the west, “with Alabama in between.” They sometimes refer to the state as “Pennsyltucky.”
The sparsely populated middle of the state frequently loses out in presidential elections to Philadelphia, with its powerful Democratic machine and get-out-the-vote efforts, and the city’s moderate suburbs. Democratic candidates routinely win Philadelphia’s wards by a margin of 9 to 1, attracting enough votes in the area to carry the state overall.
