Vin Diesel is back in "Riddick"

Vin Diesel is back in Riddick.

The return of Richard B. Riddick

By Gary;

Vin Diesel is back and he is hotter than ever.  Another installment of the Fast & Furious franchise is out this year.

But better yet, by accident I saw an article that Diesel is back in the role of Richard B. Riddick from the Sci Fi film Pitch Black.  That role made him an international star whose films have grossed $2.5 Billion worldwide.

Three movies have driven me to insane multiple viewings while they were in the theaters.

  • Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)  -  I saw that film 13 times when it came out.  The audience was stunned by that damn huge ball rolling at Indy in the opening scene.  There was and is nothing like Raiders.
  • X-Men  (2000)  -  Screw Superman or Batman.  The X-Men were my favorites growing up.  I could not get enough of the first film.  After 11 viewings I had to cut it off.
  • Pitch Black (2000)  -  Some 11 viewings in the theater.  Between the X-Men and Pitch Black the year 2000 was a bitch.

Pitch Black stunned me with its special effects, characters and unique story line.  The movie also created the bad ass Riddick.

In the new Riddick science fiction action film Vin Diesel reprises his role. It is the third installment in the The Chronicles of Riddick film series and is being written and directed by David Twohy as were its predecessors.

The movie has long been delayed by Hollywood studio budget issues.  That appears to have been resolved.

In November, 2012 Universal Pictures saw the theatrical cut for Riddick 3, and announced on that the film would be released the following year.  The film is targeted for a September 6th, 2013 release.

Plot  -  Really now, does plot matter that much?  Vin Diesel is going to kill bad guys and monsters.  Simple enough, but for those who want more . . . .

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge.

I will be first in line.

Pitch Black movie trailer

Pitch Black
Released in 2000, "Pitch Black" made Vin Diesel a star.  I would rank this film as one of the top 10 Sci Fi films of all time.  The box office was a modest $53 million.  So most of people have never seen it on the big screen.  Some 70% of the power of films like these comes from the theater experience.  Small TV screen viewing cannot come close.

Coming this September
