Rand Paul: "Can Obama kill Americans without a trial?"

Can a drone be used to kill an American in America?
  • Until he gets an answer, Paul says he will block John Brennan's nomination as CIA director.
  • Horror  -  Almost all Democrats and Republicans in Congress do not even bother to ask this question.  Unfortunately neither party gives a damn about the Constitution.

Kentucky Constitutional Federalist Republican Senator Rand Paul is threatening to block Comrade Obama's choice to head the CIA until the administration forks over more information about its covert drone program.

Specifically, can a U.S. drone be used to kill an American on American soil? Recently-disclosed administration legal documents bless the targeting of Americans involved with terrorist groups abroad.

Until he gets answers, Paul says he's willing to do "whatever it takes" - including a so-called "hold," which would block the Senate from taking up John Brennan's nomination as CIA director. Brennan was under fire last week during his confirmation hearing.

"He was asked a very specific question. . . 'Can you kill an American with a drone in America?' And he refused to answer the question," Paul told USA Today. "I find that very, very worrisome [AND]we're going to do whatever it takes to get the answer. Can the government, does the government, the president himself, claim the power to unilaterally kill an American in America without a trial?"

Paul said Wednesday night that support for President Barack Obama’s drone program was “very scary and worrisome” and feared it could open a “Pandora’s box” about government’s power.

Paul was on CNN discussing his consideration of filibustering Obama’s nomination of John Brennan for CIA director, doubling down on his criticism of Brennan’s question-dodging regarding drone use at his confirmation hearing last week.

“If you’re not going to answer, No,’ I think that means you’re telling us, ‘Yes’ — you believe that the president has the power to kill an Americans in America. That is appalling,” Paul said on CNN.

“It is very scary and worrisome to me… We don’t even name the target of people we kill with drones."
