Jewish "Wonder Woman" to be banned by Lebanon

Gal Gadot in the Israeli Army

A Hard Core Wonder of a Woman

(Washington Free Beacon)  -  Lebanon's government is seeking to ban the new Wonder Woman movie because its lead actress is Israeli, although a formal request for a ban has yet to be received.
Gal Gadot, a former Miss Israel, served in the Israel Defense Forces for two years before becoming an actress and has expressed support for Israeli soldiers. Lebanon has cited her nationality and past military service as its rationale for moving to keep Wonder Woman out of Lebanese movie theaters, the Times of Israel reported Tuesday.
The Lebanese Ministry of Economy and Trade is in the process of getting the movie banned, although advertisements have appeared in parts of Beirut. A Lebanese security official told the Times that a ban would require a recommendation from a six-ministry-member committee, noting that such a process has not yet started. The Ministry of the Interior would then have to approve the recommendation for it to go into effect.
Lebanon remains officially at war with Israel, and Israel-related content is subject to prior censorship, which officials can use to prevent Wonder Woman from being screened in the country. Other topics subject to censorship include Islam and homosexuality; the government claims the right to censor anything that would upset "political or military sensitivities."
Gadot has publicly supported Israeli soldiers, angering anti-Israel activists. In 2014, the actress wrote a Facebook post to stand in solidarity with her fellow citizens during Israel's brief war with Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, during the summer of 2014.
"I am sending my love and prayers to my fellow Israeli citizens," Gadot wrote. "Especially to all the boys and girls who are risking their lives protecting my country against the horrific acts conducted by Hamas, who are hiding like cowards behind women and children."
Before her time in the IDF, Gadot went to the Miss Universe competition as Miss Israel in 2004 and studied law. She went on to become an actress, appearing as Gisele Yashar in the Fast and Furious movies. She debuted as the character Wonder Woman in the 2016 movie Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Goldman Sachs props up Communist Venezuela

An International Banking Conspiracy
You are not paranoid if they really are after you

(CNBC)  -  The leader of Venezuela's National Assembly has threatened that a later government may refuse to pay $2.8 billion in bonds that Goldman Sachs recently purchased from the country's central bank.
"It is apparent Goldman Sachs decided to make a quick buck off the suffering of the Venezuelan people," Julio Borges, the leader of the opposition-controlled congress , said in a letter dated on Monday to Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein .
"Given the irregular nature of this transaction and the absurd financial terms involved that are to the detriment of Venezuela and its people, the National Assembly will soon launch an investigation into the matter. I also intend to recommend to any future democratic government of Venezuela not to recognize or pay on these bonds," Borges wrote.
The terms of the bond deal, reported this week by the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the transaction, called for Goldman to pay around $865 million for $2.8 billion in bonds issued by the state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela, or PDVSA, in 2014, maturing in 2022, working out to around 31 cents on the dollar and implying an annual yield above 40 percent.
Borges said the deal offered a "financial lifeline" to President Nicolas Maduro 's regime, which has been accused using violence against frequent protests.

Trump arming Kurdish militia fighting ISIS

Better Late Than Never
Left to die by Comrade Obama,
Trump sends the Kurds weapons

(RT News)  -  The US is now equipping Kurdish fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces with heavy machine guns, small arms and ammunition to battle Islamic State fighters near their stronghold of Raqqa, Syria.

Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon told RT that this move represents the "early steps to prepare for the eventual liberation of Raqqa," which the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) has declared the capital of its self-proclaimed caliphate.
"Overall, the equipment the US-led coalition will provide to the SDF includes small arms, ammunition, heavy machine guns and weapons capable of defeating specific threats our partner forces are expected to encounter as they take the fight to a desperate enemy, such as heavily-armored vehicle-borne IEDs," Pahon said in an emailed statement.
US-ally Turkey has long opposed the arming Kurdish forces, which it considers to be outgrowths of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), a designated terrorist group in both Turkey and the US.
Amid reports of US delivering arms to the Kurdish-controlled northern Syrian city of Hasakah in recent weeks, Turkish President Recep Erdogan called the US decision “a mistake” and urged US authorities to “reverse it immediately.”

ACLU Opposes Criminalizing Female Genital Mutilation

Creeping Sharia
Libs drop their pants and bend over for Islam

(Daily Caller)  -  The American Civil Liberties Union launched a vocal opposition this week against a Maine bill criminalizing female genital mutilation (FGM), Mainely Media reports.
Republican Rep. Heather Sirocki is sponsoring the bill, saying that it would classify performing FGM as a Class B crime in the state, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. The bill would also punish the parent or guardian of the victim.
However, the Maine ACLU staunchly opposes the protection. ACLU spokesman Oamshri Amarasingham said that the risk of mutilation isn’t worth expanding Maine’s criminal code. The Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault also supported the ACLU, arguing that FGM is not happening in Maine.
Sirocki, however, pointed to a 2012 report from the Center for Disease Control, which found 500,000 victims of FGM in the US. Furthermore, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement found that 400 individuals have been arrested and 785 deported for FGM violations nationwide since 2003.
Maine, Sirocki said, is one of the eight highest-risk areas in the US for FGM. The practice has proven to be so rampant in the state that it has received special federal funding to combat it.
Sirocki’s bill would also criminalize “vacation cutting,” the practice of flying briefly overseas to subject minors to FGM in nations that haven’t banned the practice.

FAKE NEWS: WaPo Made-Up Kushner’s Request for ‘Permanent Back Channel’ Communication with Russia

(Gateway Pundit)  -  At this point, it almost feels like the Washington Post is trolling everyone with the amount of fake news they put out.

During the meeting wherein the Washington Post asserted that Jared Kushner proposed a secure line between the Trump administration and Russia, it was actually the Russians who proposed it, a source close to Kushner informed Fox News.

The source alleges that the permanent back channel “was never discussed”. What really happened was the proposal of a one-off call about Syria.
A December meeting between Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and one of the senior advisers in the Trump administration, and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak at Trump Tower focused on Syria, a source familiar with the matter told Fox News Monday.
During the meeting the Russians broached the idea of using a secure line between the Trump administration and Russia, not Kushner, a source familiar with the matter told Fox News. That follows a recent report from The Washington Post alleging that Kushner wanted to develop a secure, private line with Russia.
The idea of a permanent back channel was never discussed, according to the source. Instead, only a one-off for a call about Syria was raised in the conversation.
In addition, the source told Fox News the December meeting focused on Russia’s contention the Obama administration’s policy on Syria was deeply flawed.
. . .
Kushner suggested the use of Russian diplomatic facilities as a way to shield pre-inauguration discussions with Kislyak from monitoring, according to The Post.
The fake news from the Washington Post just keeps coming and yet they are never to be held accountable for some reason.

NYC Bans Religious/Political Ads, Then Runs Religious/Political Ads Promoting Hijab

Creeping Sharia

(Pamela Geller)  -  New York City has banned all political and religious ads (the Geller ban), so how is it that NYC can run these anti-freedom political and pro-sharia religious ads?
Apart from NYC’s  craven, conquered messaging in the ads – how is the NYC can run ads they have banned?
Julia Gorin who sent me the photo wrote:
What this is saying is that Muslims and, say, Latinos have a right for you to not say something.
And if someone calls them something they don’t like, they can report it to the NYC Human Rights Commission.
How long has NY  had a (Canada-style?) Human Rights Commission? Canada, of course, doesn’t have the First Amendment, but supposedly we do.
 Separate point:
When my husband and I were growing up in America as immigrant children—who  had escaped Soviet communism—our families didn’t turn to the legal and political system when we were called “commies” by actual American ignoramuses. Here, the situation is the opposite: The Muslims and such are trying to use the system, against people who, let’s say, understand a little too much.  “

Happy Memorial Day

Always Honor The Warrior
But always question the sanity of
the Generals and Politicians

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces.

The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans founded in Decatur, Illinois, established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the Union war dead with flowers.

By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.
The first widely publicized observance of a Memorial Day-type observance after the Civil War was in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 1, 1865. During the war, Union soldiers who were prisoners of war had been held at the Hampton Park Race Course in Charleston; at least 257 Union prisoners died there and were hastily buried in unmarked graves.
Together with teachers and missionaries, black residents of Charleston organized a May Day ceremony in 1865, which was covered by the New York Tribune and other national papers. The freedmen cleaned up and landscaped the burial ground, building an enclosure and an arch labeled "Martyrs of the Race Course". Nearly 10,000 people, mostly freedmen, gathered on May 1 to commemorate the war dead. Involved were about 3,000 school children, newly enrolled in freedmen's schools, as well as mutual aid societies, Union troops, black ministers and white northern missionaries. Most brought flowers to lay on the burial field.
David W. Blight described the day:
This was the first Memorial Day. African Americans invented Memorial Day in Charleston, South Carolina. What you have there is black Americans recently freed from slavery announcing to the world with their flowers, their feet, and their songs what the war had been about. What they basically were creating was the Independence Day of a Second American Revolution.

Star Spangled Banner (1814)

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

A Rocket Powered Movie

By Gary;

I am finally getting around to reviewing the latest installment of Guardians.

The first movie blew me away and managed to make my annual Top Ten List of Superhero Movies.

Guardians was refreshing, original, a great plot and superior special effects.

Sadly Guardians vol 2 did not live up to the first film.  That is not necessarily bad.  Follow up films to classics have a tough act to follow.

The movie makers rightly gave fan favorite Rocket lots of screen time. But over all there were too many plots and sub-plots involving the many different characters. The first film was cleaner and funnier.

Guardians 2 may take multiple viewings to get a better feel for its place in the Superhero World.  Certainly the special effects were off the charts good.

The movie works if you are just looking for a fun popcorn flick to take your mind off the evils of the outside world.
