Review - Oz the Great and Powerful

Oz the Great and Powerful

By Gary;

Some of the most frightening words in Hollywood are re-make, sequel or prequel.

Those words can send shivers of joy and/or terror up the spines of fans and movie executives alike.  When I heard about the prequel being done to Oz I had both of those feelings simultaneously.  Having seen some of these Oz adaptions I hoped for the best and feared the worst.

It was an impossible task, but Disney came through with a beautifully true prequel to Oz.  The movie is a wonderful blend of comedy, fantasy, romance and drama that can appeal to children and adults.

I have admired the work of James Franco for some time.  But in this movie he became the Wizard.  A big shout out goes to Mila Kunis as the very nasty Wicked Witch of the West.   Their two characters made the film for me.

But Rachel Weisz as Evanora / The Wicked Witch of the East and Michelle Williams as Glinda the Good Witch were very good in their parts.

My only complaint is not enough flying moneys!

I won't waste time with plot reviews etc.  If you have not seen it get in the theater today.

RATING   -   8 out of 10.
