(Express)  -  MILLIONS of Christians across the world are facing punishments including imprisonment, torture and death for practicing their faith, shocking new research has revealed.

North Korea, Somalia and Afghanistan are the worst countries to openly follow the teachings of the Bible, according to the study by Open Doors.

North Korea has been branded the most dangerous country in the world for Christians since 2002. 

The Christian charity found the global level of Christian persecution has risen for the fourth year in a row, with Asian countries showing a particularly rapid rise.

The study found Islamic extremism was responsible for increased hostility in 14 of the top 20 counties on its list.

And the research discovered followers of Jesus living in India were faced with a “very high” level of persecution as “Hindu nationalists batter the churches”

The charity concludes “millions of Christians around the world now live their lives against varying levels of discrimination, discovery, violence and arrest”.

The study highlighted the top 50 countries where it is most difficult to practice the Christian faith, and rated levels of persecution as “extreme”, “very high” or “high”.

North Korea topped the list because of dictator Kim Jong-un’s brutal crackdown against the nation's estimated 300,000 Christians. 

The tyrant’s family are worshipped like gods and any suggestion there is a higher authority than the supreme leader is “immediately crushed”. 

Open Doors says: “Tens of thousands of Christians are incarcerated in horrific labour camps, and thousands more keep their faith in Christ a complete secret - often their own family members do not know of their faith.”

In lawless Somalia, which ranks second for persecution, the charity says people even suspected of being a Christian can be murdered on the spot.

The militant Islamist group al-Shabaab, which is highly active in the East African nation, has made making Somalia “free of all Christians” one of its missions.

And the Open Doors study cites a horrific case from 2016 when at least 12 Christians were killed after their faith was discovered.

The charity's research says in Afghanistan, which ranks third in the study, it is illegal for Afghans to practice any faith other than Islam.

But despite the ban, Open Doors estimates there are thousands of Christians living in the central Asian country.

The charity says: “Discovered believers will sometimes be sent to a mental hospital, as families believe no sane person would leave Islam.”

The study ranked India 15th on its list because it says there are efforts to impose national anti-conversion laws to prevent anyone from practicing anything other than Hinduism.

The charity says a massive 63.9 million Christians are living in the vast South Asian state, and face persecution from the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party.

The research says: “Some of those who have left Hinduism to follow Jesus have been attacked and even killed by their own parents.”

China is ranked 39th and was found to have a “high” level of persecution.

The world’s most populous country is home to an estimated 97.2million Christians and Open Doors says “a considerable number” of those are still imprisoned for practicing their faith.

The study says: “Violence is at a very high level and is increasing. 

“Church meetings continue to be disrupted in several provinces. 

“Churches were also closed and landlords pressured to stop renting premises to Christians.”

(The Sun)  -  PAKISTAN’S Defence Minister has threatened to “destroy” India – after India said on Thursday it had carried out “surgical strikes” on suspected militants preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan-ruled Kashmir.

The strikes, which were a response to shots fired across the de facto border through the disputed Himalayan territory, could lead to a military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours – risking a ceasefire agreed in 2003.

Tensions have been heightened since an attack on an Indian military base in Kashmir earlier this month, which left 18 soldiers dead.

Both countries claim Kashmir in full, but rule separate parts – and have fought three wars over Kashmir since gaining independence from Britain in 1947.

Responding to India’s latest strikes, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said: “We will destroy India if it dares to impose war on us.

“Pakistan army is fully prepared to answer any misadventure of India.

“We have not made atomic device to display in a showcase.

“If a such a situation arises we will use it and eliminate India.”

HYDERABAD  (Dawn)  : A large number of members of minorities and civil society organisations held a demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday in protest against alleged forced conversion of Hindu and Christian girls, reiterating their demand for legislation on the issue to discourage the trend.

Advocate Bhag Chand Bheel, Mukesh Meghwar and Pushpa Kumari who led the protest that coincided with National Minority Day urged the government to arrest Mian Mithoo of Ghotki and Pir Sarhandi of Umerkot, accusing them of facilitating forced conversions.

They complained the government had failed to take action against Mian Mithoo and Pir Sarhandi and appreciated the words of the founder of the country on minorities’ rights and called for legislation on their issues in the parliament.

The condition of religious minorities was going from bad to worse and their number was shrinking day by day, they feared.

They claimed that around 1,000 cases of forcible conversion of Hindu and Christian girls were recorded every year, while many cases went unreported.

They said that cases of conversion were mostly reported in Sindhi newspapers but were not highlighted adequately by mainstream Urdu and English electronic and print media.

They urged the mainstream media to raise minorities’ issues in order authorities concerned take their notice and evolve a comprehensive policy on them and take legislative measures.

They alleged that Hindu and Christian girls were abducted and produced after a period of two or three months during which they were threatened to forcibly change their religion.

They said the community was demanding the government make laws on the sensitive issue as it could not be resolved until a law was formed.

Persecuted Pakistani Hindus seek refuge in India

Such a fate has befallen a Christian family who fled persecution in Pakistan only to realise later on that their situation has gone from bad to worse.

Interviewed by CBN News recently, Mustaq Faisal said he and his family had no choice but to abandon their home in Pakistan and flee to Thailand after he and his family were marked for death by their Muslim neighbours last year.

In quivering voice and eyes filled with tears, Faisal recalled an incident when their neighbours accused him of tearing pages from the Quran and threatened to kill his family in revenge.

"I was so scared. I told them I would never do anything like that to their holy book, but they didn't believe me," he said.   (Christian Today)

(Hindustan Times)  -  Two people suffered gunshot wounds and seven others less serious injuries in a bomb and gun attack on Thursday at a Hindu temple in northern Bangladesh, a senior police official said.

Humayun Kabir, deputy inspector general of police for the northern region, told Reuters that three unknown attackers had arrived at the temple in Dinajpur district, 415 km (260 miles) north of the capital Dhaka, by motorbike.

They detonated several homemade bombs and then shot at people who were fleeing the building in panic, he said. About one hundred people were gathered in the temple.

Two people with gunshot wounds were taken to hospital. Kabir said two people had been detained following the incident, which he said was similar in nature to a bomb attack on Saturday on a Hindu religious gathering in the same area in which at least six people were injured, three critically.

Police suspect banned militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) may be behind the attacks, Kabir said.

Muslim-majority Bangladesh has suffered a rising tide of Islamist violence over the past year although attacks on Hindu religious gatherings remain rare.

Four online critics of religious militancy have been hacked to death, among them a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin. In October, an Italian doctor working as a missionary was shot and wounded in the same area as Thursday’s attack, which had earlier seen an Italian and a Japanese citizen die in separate attacks claimed by Islamic State.

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP)  —  A prominent Bangladeshi-American blogger known for speaking out against religious extremism was hacked to death as he walked through Bangladesh's capital with his wife, police said Friday.

The attack Thursday night on Avijit Roy, a Bangladesh-born U.S. citizen, occurred on a crowded sidewalk as he and his wife, Rafida Ahmed, were returning from a book fair at Dhaka University. 

Ahmed, who is also a blogger, was seriously injured. It was the latest in a series of attacks on secular writers in Bangladesh in recent years.

A previously unknown militant group, Ansar Bangla 7, claimed responsibility for the attack, Assistant Police Commissioner S.M. Shibly Noman told the Prothom Alo newspaper.

Roy "was the target because of his crime against Islam," the group said on Twitter.

Roy was a prominent voice against religious intolerance, and his family and friends say he had been threatened for his writings.

About 8:45 p.m. Thursday, a group of men ambushed the couple as they walked toward a roadside tea stall, with at least two of the attackers hitting them with meat cleavers, police Chief Sirajul Islam said. The attackers then ran away, disappearing into the crowds.

Two blood-stained cleavers were found after the attack, he said.

Islamic extremism has made few inroads in Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority nation of 160 million people, but there have been a series of similar attacks in recent years blamed on militants.

A divide has become increasingly visible between secular bloggers and conservative Islamic groups, often covertly connected with Islamist parties, with the secularists urging authorities to ban religion-based politics while the Islamists press for blasphemy laws to protect their faith.

Islam is Bangladesh's state religion but the country is governed by secular laws based on British common law, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has repeatedly said she will not give in to religious extremism.

Roy had founded a popular Bengali-language blog, Mukto-mona, or Free Mind, which featured articles on scientific reasoning and religion.

The website has apparently been shut down since the attack, but Roy defended atheism in a January posting on Facebook, calling it "a rational concept to oppose any unscientific and irrational belief."

Anujit Roy, his younger brother, said Roy had returned to the country earlier this month from the U.S. and was planning to go back in March.

In 2013, another blogger, Ahmed Rajib Haider, who also spoke out against religious extremism, was killed by still-unidentified assailants near his Dhaka home. In 2004, Humayun Azad, a prominent writer and teacher at Dhaka University, was seriously injured in an attack when he was returning from the same book fair.

Baki Billah, a friend of Roy and a blogger, told Independent TV that Roy had been threatened earlier by people upset at his writing.

"He was a free thinker. He was a Hindu but he was not only a strong voice against Islamic fanatics but also equally against other religious fanatics," Billah said.

"We are saddened. We don't know what the government will do to find the killers. We want justice," he said.

(Chakra News)  -  Chittagong Nursing Institute lecturer Ms Anjali Debi Chaudhuri was brutally killed by extremist militants. She was targeted by uknown assailants from the Islamic Chattra Shibir, the student wing of Jamat E Islami Bangladesh because she told the nursing students to follow the dress code of the institute and not to wear Hijab & burka. 

Due to her keeping in check with government and workplace protocol, she enforced the institute’s dress code. This led some Islamic Militant groups to get  upset and and therefore brutally attacked her in broad daylight, killing her. Just a few years ago, Prof. Gopal Krishna Muhuri was brutally killed by Islamic militants in Chittagong because he was a vocal and upcoming professor who spoke for human rights of minorities, especially atrocities against Hindus.

The dead Anjali Devi, 57, wife of Dr Rajendra Chowdhury, was a senior teacher of the college on the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) campus. She along with her family used to live in a rented house at Gaser Goli of Telipatti under Panchlaish Police Station.

Sources says, Anjali  Debi Chowdhury has been brutally killed  by the perpetrators of “Hijab Movement for the Nurses” organised by the Militant Islamist group Jamayat e Islami Bangladesh guided student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Deceased’s husband Rajendra said, “Anjali left home around 8:30am for her college. Within 15 minutes, the guard of the house informed him that his wife was stabbed by some youths”.

“When I reached the spot, which is around 30-40 yards off the house, I saw my wife lying in a pool of blood. I took her to the CMCH by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.”

Quoting witness Mohammad Yasin, Panchlaish police said four youths attacked Anjali while she was waiting at Telipatti intersection for a rickshaw.

Locals could not come to save the teacher as the attackers were equipped with sharp weapons and firearms.  The criminals ran away left Anjali in pool of blood in a almost finished condition, brandishing firearms.

Anjali was admitted to the hospital around 9:45am. She died in the intensive care unit around 12:00 noon, said in-charge of CMCH police camp.

Minara Begum, principal of the nursing college, said, “As far as I know, she [Anjali] was on good terms with her students and colleagues. And I never heard of any complaint against her who had been working in the college for nearly 34 years.”

Around 400 students of the college brought out a procession in the afternoon, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators.

• According to the Election Commission of India, the electoral population in 2014 election was 814.5 million, making it the largest ever election in the history of the world.

Early results on Friday from India's five-week long general election indicated a landslide victory for the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Narendra Modi.

The alliance led by the Modi's Hindu nationalist BJP had already won or was winning 339 parliamentary seats, far more than the majority of 272 required to rule, Reuters reported. Even on its own, the BJP was ahead in 282 seats, giving Modi the most decisive mandate for an Indian prime minister in 30 years. A total of 543 seats are up for grabs in India's parliament.

Obama asks Imam to "Pray for me" while ignoring Buddhists, Christians and Hindus

(From 1389 Blog - Counterjihad!) – Visiting Malaysia’s National Mosque on Sunday, President Obama was asked by the institution’s imam to end oppression against Muslims worldwide, Malaysia’s national press agency Bernama reported via CNS News. 

“Pray for me,” Obama replied, according to Grand Imam Ismail Muhammad, who took him on a 25-minute tour of the mosque, called Masjid Negara in Malay [more about that here], in Kuala Lumpur. 

“Obama also said that every day when he wakes up he always does his best to put an end to oppression and conflicts affecting communities,” Bernama quoted Ismail as saying. 

The 70 year-old cleric said Obama had frequently replied with InsyAllah (Malay for “Allah willing”) and terima kasih (“thank you”) during the tour. 

“It was nice of him, although he could not speak much of the Malay language  but understood what I had said to him,” he said. 

Obama, who wore a dark suit and removed his shoes, also visited and paid his respects at the National Mausoleum at the mosque complex, where former prime ministers and deputy prime ministers are buried. 

Malaysia’s Star newspaper quoted Abdullah Muhammad Zin, religious advisor to Prime Minister Najib Razak, as saying it was “not common” for the leader of a superpower to include a visit to a mosque in his itinerary. 

“There can be no better way for Obama to honor Islam than by visiting Masjid Negara,” he said. 

Bernama quoted several other senior Muslim figures commenting on the visit. 

“This is out of the ordinary as I cannot recall any non-Muslim world leader visiting the National Mosque and this is a good start for Muslims here,” said Ustaz Wan Akashah Wan Abdul Hamid, a religious scholar. 

The news agency also cited a former National Mosque imam, Hassan Mahmood Al-Hafiz, as saying that “the willingness of the world leader to set foot on the Islamic landmark was a good omen, more so when Muslims were being wrongly linked to violence.” 

The National Mosque was built in 1965, several years after Malaysia won independence from Britain, on the site of a Brethren Church that had been appropriated by the Malaysian government for the purpose. (The church, which had stood there since 1922, was offered an alternative site.)

Relations between Malaysia’s Muslim majority (around 61 percent) and minorities including Buddhists (almost 20 percent), Christians (9 percent) and Hindus (6 percent) have been troubled at times. 

Invited to comment on Obama’s decision to visit a mosque but not a church while in the country, Council of Churches of Malaysia general secretary Hermen Shastri demurred, but said that those responsible for arranging the visit had “ensured that he is made aware of the religious freedom issues in the country.” 

A spokesman for the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship chairman, Rev. Dr. Eu Hong Seng, said he welcomed the fact Obama chose to tour the National Mosque. 

“Given the challenges and concerns for non-Muslim religions in Malaysia, especially Christianity, it would have been good for President Obama to also visit the places of religious worship of other religions,” he said. “This would help him better understand the issues facing non-Muslim religions in Malaysia.”

(Blazing Cat Fur)   -  Muslim attacks continue on Hindus in different places of Bangladesh, adding to the woes of the panic-stricken minority community.

Hindus have been falling victim to rape, arson and vandalism allegedly at the hands of Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men for the past few weeks surrounding the January 5 national elections.

Since Saturday night, a temple was torched in Tangail, a Hindu man killed in Natore, three Hindu men beaten up in Patuakhali and a straw heap belonging to a Hindu was set ablaze in Jhalakathi.

Meanwhile, the raped women of Jessore's Rishipara and their families have fled their homes fearing further attacks, while male members of the community in different parts of the country are spending sleepless nights, taking turns guarding their villages.

Though a police camp has been set up and local youths are patrolling the village at night, Hindu villagers are hardly assured of their safety.

"I have sent my daughter-in-law to her father's house. Though police are patrolling the village, we are scared," said Sandhya Rani Das of Rishipara.

Families of both the rape victims have fled the village apprehending more attacks.

"The car of an influential person of this area was burnt down by anti-election activists. None has been arrested following the incident. Compared to him, we are insignificant people. The same gang that torched his car raped my wife too. So, what justice can we expect? It is wise to leave the village silently," said the husband of one of the rape victims.

A car belonging to Humayun Sultan Sadap, son of AL lawmaker Khan Tipu Sultan, was torched at Rishipara on December 29 while he was campaigning for his father. Police have failed to arrest anyone in this connection.

In Tangail, miscreants burnt a Kali temple to ashes at Phulbari village of Kalihati district in the early hours yesterday.

Note: Still not a word from the Western MSM about this. These reports are from the local press. It is exactly analogous to the Muslim attacks on Christians in Egypt after Morsi was deposed. That was at least reported in the West.

ISLAMABAD (Reuters)   -  A crowd of Islamic fundamentalists dug up the grave of a Hindu man in Pakistan, police said on Tuesday, in the latest sign of growing religious tension in the increasingly unstable province of Sindh.

 

Shouting "Allahu Akbar", or "God is greatest", the crowd dug out the body and dragged it through the streets of the southern town of Pangrio in a dispute over the location of the grave.

"Tensions are still running high, but we are in control of the situation," district police chief Shaukat Ali Khatian said.

"The incident was caused by some clerics of the extremist outfit of Ahle Sunaat Wal Jamaat, but later other Muslims joined in and dug up the body and threw it away."

Hindus and Muslims have lived side by side and shared graveyards in Sindh for centuries, but tension has been on the rise recently as extremists make increasingly aggressive inroads into the rural parts of the province.

Sindh is home to most of Pakistan's small Hindu community, which numbers about 2 million among a population of roughly 180 million.

Pakistan's rocky relationship with neighboring India, a predominantly Hindu country, has fed tension between the two communities in smaller towns, such as Pangrio.

The Hindu man, Bhoro Bheel, 30, had died in a road accident and was buried on Saturday, in line with caste tradition. The subsequent desecration sparked demonstrations and forced police to step up street patrols.

"Even our dead are not safe anymore in their graves," Narayan Das Bheel, a member of the Hindu community, told Reuters.

A U.S. Army training instructor listed Evangelical Christianity, Hindus, Mormons and Catholicism as examples of religious extremism along with Al Qaeda and Hamas during a briefing with an Army Reserve unit based in Pennsylvania, Fox News has learned.

“We find this offensive to have Evangelical Christians and the Catholic Church to be listed among known terrorist groups,” said Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. “It is dishonorable for any U.S. military entity to allow this type of wrongheaded characterization.”

The incident occurred during an Army Reserve Equal Opportunity training brief on extremism. Topping the list is Evangelical Christianity. Other organizations listed included Catholicism, Al Qaeda, Hamas, the Ku Klux Klan, Sunni Muslims, and Nation of Islam says Fox News.

The military also listed “Islamophobia” as a form of religious extremism.

Army spokesman George Wright told Fox News that this was an “isolated incident not condoned by the Dept. of the Army.”

“This slide was not produced by the Army and certainly does not reflect our policy or doctrine,” he said. “It was produced by an individual without anyone in the chain of command’s knowledge or permission.”

Wright said after the complaint was lodged, the presenter deleted the slide, and apologized.

The incident was made public by a soldier who attended the briefing. He asked for copies of the presentation and sent them to the Chaplain Alliance.

“He considers himself an evangelical Christian and did not appreciate being classified with terrorists,” Crews told Fox News. “There was a pervasive attitude in the presentation that anything associated with religion is an extremist.”

The Archdiocese for the Military Services was shocked to learn that the Army considered Catholicism to be an example of extremism.

“The Archdiocese is astounded that Catholics were listed alongside groups that are, by their very mission and nature, violent and extremist,” the Archdiocese said in a statement.

They want the Dept. of Defense to “ensure that taxpayer funds are never again used to present blatantly anti-religious material to the men and women in uniform.”

Islamic fanatics have attacked dozens of Hindu temples and hundreds of homes across Bangladesh since an Islamist leader was sentenced to death for war crimes last month.

Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, a group which looks after Hindu temples said 47 temples and at least 700 Hindu houses had either been torched or vandalised since the verdict against Delwar Hossain Sayedee.

Sayedee, vice-president of the country's largest Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami, was sentenced to hang on February 28 for crimes including rape and murder committed during the 1971 independence conflict.

The sentencing of Sayedee and other Jamaat-e-Islami leaders has triggered the worst violence in impoverished Muslim-majority Bangladesh since independence, with 85 people so far killed in the unrest reports the Hindustan Times.


Buddhists, Hindus protest Muslim Bangladesh attack
Hundreds of people demonstrated against the recent burning of Buddhist monasteries and Hindu temples in Bangladesh by Muslims, who complained that a Buddhist man had insulted Islam. General Secretary of Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association, Siliguri, Sonam Lhundup Lama urged the central government and the United Nations, Human Rights Commission, to intervene the matter.

Lama added that many people sustained injuries and many houses of locals were burnt. Buddhist monks, social activists along with school children took out to streets holding photos of injured monks, vandalised temples' and raised slogans against the atrocities being done against the Buddhist people in Bangladesh.

Kazal Debnath, a vice-president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, blamed the attacks on Hindu temples and homes on Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.

"It was the work of the Jamaat and Shibir, but we also accuse the government, the police and the local government representatives including (our) MPs for failing to protect the temples and our community," he told AFP.

He said the attackers were given free rein to "torch our temples, houses and properties".

But foreign minister Dipu Moni told diplomats last week that Jamaat and Shibir attacked Hindu temples and houses in a "pre-planned manner".

Hindus, who make up nearly 10% of Bangladesh's 153 million-strong population, are traditionally seen as supporters of the Awami League, which brands itself as a secular party.

They were the main targets during Bangladesh's 1971 independence war against Pakistan and during post-poll violence in 2001 when a centre-right party allied with Jamaat won a two-thirds majority.

Jamaat-e-Islami leaders have been on trial at the domestic International Crimes Tribunal, accused of colluding with Pakistan and pro-Pakistan militias during the war for independence.
