A Win for Freedom  -  Left-wing California now allows home based food businesses

• These new companies will create that "evil" capitalist thing called profit, along with wealth and even pay taxes into the Treasury.
• Freedom  -  what a concept!

For reasons unknown the Leftist-Socialist legislature of the People's Republic of California has made it legal to start a small food business at home and to sell homemade muffins, cakes and pies at local stores and restaurants and directly to consumers.

Slammed by the economy, many households are looking to earn a bit of money on the side with home-cooked confections — without the huge upfront costs in leasing certified commercial kitchens and complying with myriad business rules.

The Los Angeles Times reports Comrade Governor Jerry Brown signed the bill which would permit home bakers to sell as much as $50,000 worth of goods a year, as long as they don't contain cream or meat products. So far, more than 30 other states have similar laws.

The bill was inspired last year when the Los Angeles County Health Department ordered Mark Stambler to stop selling as many as 50 loaves of bread he baked each week in his backyard oven in Los Feliz. Stambler, 59, had hoped to grow his baking into a full-time business, but the Health Department closed him down.

Under the old Socialist state law, it was a misdemeanor for small-scale home cooks and bakers — often mothers and part-time workers — to make money off their creations, except to benefit charities.  After all, making money is evil and capitalist.

Start-up food companies are currently required to work out of certified commercial kitchens, an expensive proposition that bars many from even trying.

"A small food company has no chance. It's impossible to make any money at all," one home baker said.  She rents two kitchens to make organic and gluten-free baked goods and barely recoups her costs.

"I literally work day and night," she said. "Had I been able to just bake at home, it would have made my life so much easier."

The People's Republic of California now allows you to sell homemade jams, breads, fruit pies, honey and other products for profit of all things.  What is stupid is it was illegal to sell these products in the first place.

The California Homemade Food Act now allows "non-potentially hazardous food" such as bread, fruit pies, empanadas, jams, honey and dried nuts to be sold out of houses, apartment complexes and other residences.

Sales of small-batch foods could spawn a lucrative industry worth hundreds of millions of dollars, supporters said. Many of the so-called Bakers Bills in other states were passed into law since the economic downturn.

Under the bill, home food producers would still have to obtain permits, label their products as homemade and offer lists of ingredients. Their gross annual sales would be capped next year at $35,000, rising to $50,000 in 2015.

Those selling directly to consumers would have to register with their local health departments and complete food handler courses. Purveyors selling through a retailer would also be subject to health department inspections.

With the nation facing its longest period of belt-tightening since the war, the Deputy Prime Minister said the ‘top 10 per cent’ – around 3 million earning more than £50,500 – should brace themselves for new taxes.

Options include an end to tax relief on pension contributions for higher-rate taxpayers, an ‘accessions tax’ to replace inheritance tax, and further increases in capital gains tax reports the UK Daily Mail.

A tax on wealth - - - not income

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Simon Hughes, Mr Clegg’s deputy, says that the party will unveil its position on a second spending review this week and that further welfare cuts are not acceptable without tax rises.

The Deputy Prime Minister will unveil details of a year-long tax review to study wealth taxes and other property taxes around the world. The party advocates the imposition of a mansion tax on homes worth more than £1 million.

“We almost never have had a discussion about what we should take from income and what we should take from wealth. For us, that is what we want to look at and that’s what the tax review will do… We have to make sure that people who have large assets make their contribution appropriately.”

The deputy Lib Dem leader also says that a growing number of senior Conservatives are warming to the idea of higher property taxes on the wealthy. He said the proposal came close to being implemented at this year’s budget.

“There are certainly some Tories who see the logic of a fairer system in terms of property taxation,” he says.

By the way, that’s the way America works, we have great hearts, we care for people who have needs. We help get them back. We help lift them up but then they go back to their permanent lifestyle.”

Muslims torch 82 year old Church

A mob of hundreds of insane Muslim men attacked and burnt an 82-year-old church and an adjoining school in northwest Pakistan during a protest against an anti-Islam film, sparking concerns among the minority Christian community.

The violent Muslim mob broke through the gate of the St Paul's Lutheran Church inside the cantonment in Mardan city, 48 km from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa capital of Peshawar, on Friday while returning from a rally against the film Innocence Of Muslims.

According to reports from Christians in Mardan, the mob attacked and set on fire the church, St Paul's high school, a library, a computer laboratory and houses of four clergymen, including Bishop Peter Majeed.

The mob also damaged and torched moveable property, including a car and three motorcycles. Zeeshan Chand, the 17-year-old son of a pastor, was beaten by the Muslim mob and had to be hospitalised in Mardan.

Rev Binyameen Barkat, the treasurer of the Northern Diocese of the Church of Pakistan, said, "We were under threats of such attacks since last week and had requested the local administration to provide security to the church property, which they did. However, it was not enough to stop the aggressive armed men".

Violent attacks against Christians in Indonesia have forced the closure of 20 churches.

Christian leaders said the Muslims who attacked the church had brought kerosene and guns. They stoned the church, desecrated the altar, tore copies of the Bible and prayer books and later put everything on fire.

"We immediately called the fire brigades, but the mob stoned and did not allow the fire fighters to enter the church compound," Barkat said.

The St Paul's Lutheran Church was built in 1930 and is situated on three kanals of land. Mardan, the hometown of provincial Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti, has some 5,000 Christian families that moved to the region in 1903.

The world America looked at in 1946 was an unnatural one.  All of the great economic and industrial powers on earth had been leveled in World War II.  Our competitors in business no longer even existed allowing the US standard of living to greatly increase.

As Europe and Asia began to recover and compete back at us, the US increasingly resorted to more and more personal, business and government debt to keep the standard of living party going.

The "lifestyle" of Americans, that feeling of wealth, was kept afloat by a sea of debt.

Like any good Ponzi scheme the marry-go-round has to stop at some point.  The debt party has to shut down and the bill for the fun is handed to someone.


2012 Economic Collapse!  -  Peter Schiff

According to CEO and Chief Global Strategist of Euro Pacific Capital Peter Schiff, the U.S. economy is heading for an economic crash that will make 2008 look like a walk in the park. Stimulus programs can delay this day of reckoning, but only for so long and only at the expense of making the eventual meltdown much, much worse.

Schiff, who famously warned investors about the housing and financial crisis in his 2007 book Crash Proof, says the Fed's palliative efforts during the housing meltdown have made the next crisis inevitable.

"We've got a much bigger collapse coming, and not just of the markets but of the economy," Schiff says in the attached clip. "It's like what you're seeing in Europe right now, only worse."

In this nightmare scenario detailed in The Real Crash: America's Coming Bankruptcy, the current economic pause is actually the beginning of a material slowdown or recession into year end. At that point, the Federal Reserve will unleash a third round of Quantitative Easing — weakening the dollar without jump-starting the economy. As a result of dollar weakness, import prices rise, pressing the margins of corporate America.

Lower margins lead to heavy layoffs, sending millions of workers into unemployment during a time when they can least afford it. Banks fail, housing collapses, and taxes are raised in a futile effort to give the tapped-out government the capital to try yet more futile stimulus.

"That's when it really is going to get interesting, because that's when we hit our real fiscal cliff, when we're going to have to slash — and I mean slash — government spending," says Schiff.

Those cuts will not be at all unlike the draconian austerity measures in Greece, with programs like Social Security and Medicare being dramatically cut or possibly disappearing entirely. The easiest way to put it, is that everything you don't think could possibly happen in America will come to be.

"Alternatively, we can bail everybody out, pretend we can print our way out of a crisis, and, instead, we have runaway inflation, or hyper-inflation, which is going to be far worse than the collapse we would have if we did the right thing and just let everything implode," he offers.

Basically no poll has any real meaning until the first Presidential debate has been held.  For good or bad, years of campaigning comes down to the two candidates performing for the public on live TV like trained animals in some Roman Empire circus. 

In no way is this insane system what the Founding Fathers wanted for the selection of a President.

But getting to the point, Mitt Romney needs Colorado badly if he is to prevent four more years of Socialist rule from the White House, and I am not sure Colorado will go GOP.  The looter and moocher class will keep voting for free bread and circuses from the Democrats as long as someone else pays the bill.

Colorado will be a tough nut to crack:

• Romney has been behind in Colorado polls all of 2012.
• Comrade Obama carried Colorado with 53% in 2008.
• The state has a Democrat Governor and two Democrat Senators.
• The Democrats control the State Senate and the GOP won the lower house by only one seat.
• 4 of 7 Congressmen are Republicans.

In past elections there has been a late shift of voters creating GOP wins for President.  We will all know in a few weeks.  God help what is left of the Republic if Comrade Obama wins another term.

Oscar James Dunn (1826 – November 22, 1871) was one of three African Americans who served as a Republican Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana during the era of Reconstruction.

In 1868, Dunn became the first elected black lieutenant governor of a U.S. state. He ran on the ticket headed by Henry Clay Warmoth, formerly of Illinois.




On December 22, 1866, Dunn testified before a select committee appointed to investigate the New Orleans Riot of July 30, 1866. He told the committee that he was "born in New Orleans in 1826 and was about forty-one years old". His parents were James and Maria Dunn. His father, James Dunn of Petersburg, Virginia, had been emancipated in 1819 by James H. Caldwell in New Orleans.

James Dunn became a free man of color and later emancipated his wife, Maria, and their two children, Oscar and Jane, in 1832. James Dunn worked as a carpenter; Maria Dunn ran a boarding house for actors and actresses that came to perform in theatres.

Oscar Dunn was neither a Creole of Color (gens de couleur), nor of fair complexion. He is described in an article in The New York Times on June 25, 1893 as "Jamaican, well educated, and pure African."

A riot over political power between ex-Confederates on one side and White and Black Republicans on the other.  The estimate of the number of casualties comes to 38 killed and 46 wounded.

Dunn was apprenticed as a young man to the plastering and painting contractor, A. G. Wilson, who had earlier verified Dunn's free status in the Mayor's Register of Free People of Color 1840-1864.

Having studied music, Dunn became both an accomplished musician and an instructor of the violin.

The social, political, and racial conditions in New Orleans were a catalyst for Dunn's focus on equality for those blacks who had been freed through the Thirteenth Amendment, ratified after the American Civil War. Dunn was an English-speaking black man in a city where a self-imposed caste system was the underpinning of daily life.

It was a city in which French culture was promoted as having been more refined than that established by the English speaking residents who came to the city in the early-to-mid-19th century.

Dunn was a member of Masonic lodge. In the latter 1850s, he was a Master and Grand Master of the lodge.  As a Freemason, he established a political power base useful for his political career. He resigned as Grand Master on January 9, 1868, when he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana.

In 1870, however, he returned to his position as Grand Master of the Eureka Grand Lodge and held that title until his death.

During Reconstruction

Dunn opened an employment agency that assisted in finding jobs for the freedmen. He actively promoted and supported the Universal Suffrage Movement; advocated land ownership for all blacks; taxpayer-funded education of all black children; and equal protection of the laws under the Fourteenth Amendment.

He was Secretary of the Advisory Committee of the Freedmen's Savings and Trust Company of New Orleans, where he worked to insure that recently freed slave were treated fairly by former planters to who they were now contracted to perform the same duties they had once undertaken as slaves. In 1866, he organized the People's Bakery, an enterprise owned and operated by the Louisiana Association of Workingmen.

As a New Orleans city council member in 1867, Dunn was named chairman of a committee to consider alterations to Article 5 of the City Charter. He proposed that "all children between the ages of 6-18 be eligible to attend public schools and that the Board of Aldermen shall provide for the education of all children ... without distinction to color." In the Constitutional Convention of 1867-1868, this resolution was enacted into Louisiana law and laid the foundation for the public education system.

Dunn was very active in local, state and federal politics; with connections to President Ulysses S. Grant and Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts. At a hotly contested nominating convention held in New Orleans, immediately following the adoption of the Louisiana Constitution of 1867-1868, Francis E. Dumas declined the nomination of Lieutenant Governor. Dunn was consulted and agreed to the nomination. He defeated the white candidate for the nomination, W. Jasper Blackburn, the former mayor of Minden in Webster Parish, by a vote of fifty-four to twenty-seven.

The Warmoth-Dunn Republican ticket was elected, 64,941 to 38,046 and hence launched the reign of the Radical Republican Party in state politics. He was inaugurated lieutenant governor on June 13, 1868. In that capacity, he was also the President pro tempore of the Louisiana State Senate. 

He also served as President of the Metropolitan Police with an annual budget of nearly one million dollars and responsibility for maintaining stability in a toxic political atmosphere.

Death

On November 22, 1871, after a brief and sudden illness, while campaigning for the upcoming state and presidential elections, Dunn died at his home on Canal Street.

The Dunn funeral is said to have been one of the largest that New Orleans ever witnessed. As many as fifty thousand lined Canal Street for the procession, and newspapers across the nation recorded the event.

State officials, masonic lodges, and civic and social organizations participated in the procession from the St. James A.M.E. church to his grave site. He was laid to rest in the Cassanave family mausoleum at St. Louis Cemetery No. 2.

Here is one for the record books.  A candidate just lied to the voters about being a success. He lied that he has changed Washington and the nation while in office.  Crazy.

Marxist-in-Chief   -   The lie is odd because on almost every front Comrade Obama has achieved his goal of a expanding the massive Big Brother State and re-distributing the wealth from those to earn it to those with "needs."

Obama and his Fellow Travelers in the Socialist Democrat Party have enormously grown the size and power of the Federal Government.  That is a fact.

• World record spending to grow a centralized and all-powerful state

• A trillion dollar borrowed stimulus
• Socializing medicine that was even backed by the Supreme Court
• Increased Obamacare taxes to re-distribute the wealth

Yes, Comrade Obama has changed government from the inside.  Because of his policies what was left of a free America has come close to vanishing.

"I couldn't believe it when I heard him today," Romney continued.

The Republican hammered away at Obama's statement.

"Isn't that amazing? No wonder he's had such a hard time over the last four years," he said.

As the chart shows, between April-June 2012 (the most recent three month block for which government data is available), only 200,000 jobs have been created while 265,000 individuals have been added to the food stamp rolls. Additionally, in that time period, 246,000 workers were awarded disability.

 

Vicente Fox: Legalize Drugs to end the Cartels

The Conservative former President of Mexico says the "war" on drugs is a failure

The Conservative former Mexican President Vicente Fox spoke this week at the Sacramento, California Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce's annual speakers forum.

Fox called for immigration reform and the legalization of drugs in the United States to blunt the influence of Mexican drug cartels and the related violence that he said has killed 80,000 people, many of them under 25, in the past five years reports the Sacramento Bee.

Because so many young people in Mexico don't get college educations and can't find good jobs, "those kids went and joined the cartels for $500 a month," Fox said.

In Mexico, it's illegal to sell drugs, but not to consume them. "After 10 years of legalization, we've learned that kids don't go crazy" using drugs, Fox said.

If the United States legalized drugs and reduced demand, he argued, there would be less violence in Mexico because fewer drugs would be shipped through the country.

Mexico is losing a lot of tourism and foreign investment due to the drug wars, but there's good news, too, Fox said. The country has a growing manufacturing sector, "over 70 percent of the people are middle class, and Mexico buys over $250 billion a year from the U.S. and accounts for millions of jobs for U.S. citizens."

Fox doesn't favor open borders, but he does support a regulated guest worker program, noting that as the U.S. population get older, younger Mexican workers could fill the jobs. Instead of building a wall at the border, "why not build bridges?" he asked.
