(World Net Daily)  -  The lawyer who founded Judicial Watch and later Freedom Watch, Larry Klayman, has sent a letter to Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, asking him to look at a whistleblower’s evidence of “systematic illegal surveillance on prominent Americans, again including the chief justice of the Supreme Court, other justices, 156 judges, prominent businessmen such as Donald Trump, and even yours truly.”

That spying was done, Klayman’s letter contends, by the FBI.

It’s become a major issue following President Trump’s assertion that he and Trump Tower were spied upon by the federal government, and the subsequent denials by intelligence and law-enforcement officials, including FBI Director James Comey, who famously cleared Hillary Clinton on accusations she mishandled classified information as U.S. secretary of state.

Klayman has been working with Dennis Montgomery, a former NSA and Central Intelligence Agency contractor who “left the NSA and CIA with 47 hard drives and over 600 million pages of information, much of which is classified.”

Montgomery then “sought to come forward legally as a whistleblower to appropriate government entities, including congressional intelligence committees, to expose that the spy agencies were engaged for years in systematic illegal surveillance on prominent Americans.”

Explained Klayman: “Working side by side with former Obama Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who lied in congressional testimony, and former Obama Director of the CIA, the equally ethically challenged John Brennan, Montgomery witnessed ‘up close and personal’ this “Orwellian Big Brother’ intrusion on privacy, likely for potential coercion, blackmail or other nefarious purposes.”

(London Daily Mail)  -  Donald Trump must provide proof that Barack Obama ordered a wiretap on him during his presidential campaign by Monday, a bipartisan group from the House intelligence committee, has said.

Last week Trump tweeted: 'Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!' 

He continued the allegation against former President Barack Obama in other tweets but offered no evidence.

Now he is being taken to task in a letter sent by the committee chairman Rep Devin Nunes (Republican-Calif) and the panel's ranking Democrat, Rep Adam Schiff (D-Calif), a source said. 

'We should be able to determine in fairly short order whether this allegation is true or false,' Schiff told reporters Tuesday evening at the Capitol.

Declaring that Congress 'must get to the bottom' of Trump's claim, Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), contacted Comey and Acting Deputy Attorney General Dana Boente.

They asked the pair to produce the paper trail created when the Justice Department's criminal division secures warrants for wiretaps.

(NBC News)  -  Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Sunday denied any suggestion that Trump Tower communications were wiretapped before the election.

For the part of the national security apparatus that he oversaw, "there was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president, the president-elect at the time, or as a candidate, or against his campaign," Clapper told Chuck Todd in an exclusive interview on Sunday's "Meet The Press."

When Todd asked him whether he could confirm or deny if a FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court Act) order for this existed, Clapper declared, "I can deny it."

Asked again whether there was a FISA Court order to monitor Trump Tower, Clapper said, "Not to my knowledge."

Clapper said that if any wiretap like that occurred, he would "certainly hope" that he would be aware of it.

"I can't speak for other authorized entities in the government or a state or local entity," he added.

(Infowars)  -  AdRoll, the online advertiser that accused Breitbart of “hate speech,” is now abruptly cutting ties with Infowars.com in an apparent, concentrated effort to shut down political speech by conservatives and libertarians online.

The advertiser sent a vaguely-worded email to the Infowars legal department saying it was ending its ad campaign in part because “all political content should focus on the merits of the candidate,” implying that corrupt, establishment candidates such as Hillary Clinton should be showered with praise and her scandals ignored.

This seems to contradict another statement in the same email in which AdRoll claims “all content on your website should be relevant, accurate, informative, and up to date;” if a news web site is to focus on only the “merits” of a political candidate and not the controversies, how is that accurate?

Interestingly, none of this verbiage is found on AdRoll’s “Website Content” guidelines page, indicating that it’s a new crusade to control political speech and news reporting through economic warfare.

AdRoll even slandered Breitbart by accusing the site of “hate speech,” which is not only an unprofessional accusation, but it also points to a political – not business – motivation behind the blacklisting.

“While we do let our customers determine which sites they’d like to block, we would like to clarify that AdRoll does not serve ads on Breitbart News because it violates our policies around offensive language and hate speech,” a company spokesperson said.

“Hate speech” is a ambiguous term often used by leftist politicians in the West to shut down the free speech of those critical of globalist initiatives, such as uncontrolled immigration which has lead to the erosion of national sovereignty in Europe and the US.

On CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday, Greenwald told host Brian Stelter that the irony is rich considering the fact that Democrats are suddenly in love with government leaks now that a Republican is in the White House. Under Obama, those same Democrats wanted them jailed and prosecuted.

“If you look at the last eight years,” Greenwald explained. “There has been a very concerted war on not just sources and whistleblowers, but also journalists, implemented by not Donald Trump but by the Obama administration.”

He continued. “More sources prosecuted under the 1917 Espionage Act than in all previous administrations combined. Journalists such as James Rosen at Fox News and Jim Risen at The New York Times and those of us who worked on the Snowden reporting constantly threatened with prosecution or having our phone records subpoenaed and the like. And Democratic officeholders in D.C. were virtually unanimous in the idea that people who leak information that’s classified are villains, they’re traitors, they oughta go to prison.”

Greenwald was one of the few journalists who was in contact with Edward Snowden from late 2012 who leaked classified information from the NSA that exposed many of the tactics used by the federal government to obtain intelligence.

Discussing how media coverage of his first days in the Oval Office inaccurately depicted him as a “racist,” Trump went off on “fake news” and threw another jab at the beleaguered network.

“You read all about Dr. Martin Luther King a week ago when somebody said I took the statue out of my office,” Trump said. “And it turned out that that was fake news – from these people [points to media]. Fake news.”

“The statue is cherished, it’s one of the favorite things,” Trump continued, “but they said the statue the bust of Dr. Martin Luther King was taken out of the office, and it was never even touched. So I think that was a disgrace but that’s the way the press is, very unfortunate.”

The president went on to single out reporter Paris Dennard for defending him on CNN, thanking him for performing “an amazing job in a very hostile CNN community.”

“He’s all by himself, you’ll have seven people and Paris, but I’ll take Paris over the seven,” Trump stated. “But I don’t watch CNN so I don’t get to see you as much as I used to. [laughter] I don’t like watching fake news.”

“None of us watch it either anymore,” another person adds.

Later in the meeting, Trump again commented on press bias when a reporter addressed the mainstream media as “the opposition party.”

“It is,” Trump agreed. “A lot of the media is actually ‘the opposition party.’ They’re so biased and really it’s a disgrace. Some of the media is fantastic and fair, but so much of the media is ‘opposition party’ knowingly saying incorrect things, so it’s a very sad situation, but we seem to be doing well. You know, it’s almost like in the meantime we won, so maybe they don’t have the influence they think, but they really are — they really have to straighten out their act.”

(International Business Times)  -  One month to the day after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, former President Harry Truman recommended that the U.S. abolish the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

In an op-ed column published in the Washington Post on Dec. 22, 1963, Truman never linked the CIA to President Kennedy’s murder, but the timing of the explicit and strongly worded column and complaint implied a connection.

“For some time I have been disturbed by the way the CIA has been diverted from its original assignment,” Truman wrote. “It has become an operational and at times a policy-making arm of the Government. This has led to trouble and may have compounded our difficulties in several explosive areas.”

Truman continued:

“This quiet intelligence arm of the President has been so removed from its intended role that it is being interpreted as a symbol of sinister and mysterious foreign intrigue -- and subject for cold war enemy propaganda,” the former president wrote.

“For some time I have been disturbed by the way the CIA has
been diverted from its original assignment. It has become an
operational and at times a policy-making arm of the Government."

Truman was no distant, uninformed public policy professional when it came to the CIA: In July 1947, then-President Truman signed into law the legislation that created the agency, which replaced the former U.S. Office of Strategic Services (OSS).

In 1944, William J. Donovan, the OSS’ creator, suggested to President Franklin D. Roosevelt that the nation should create a new, centralized organization/agency directly supervised by the president -- "which will procure intelligence both by overt and covert methods and will at the same time provide intelligence guidance, determine national intelligence objectives, and correlate the intelligence material collected by all government agencies."

Donovan also proposed that the new agency should have authority to conduct “subversive operations abroad.”

In December 1963, Truman articulated in no uncertain terms what he thought of the CIA’s covert operations dimension:

Truman said they should “be terminated.”

Later, in 1964, Truman would reiterate his call for removing covert operations from the CIA in a letter to Look magazine -- underscoring that he never intended the CIA to get involved in “strange activities” when he signed the legislation creating the institution.

Further, Truman is not the only high-profile U.S. public official to call for the abolition of the CIA’s operational activities. Former U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y., wanted to abolish the agency and transfer its intelligence functions to appropriate existing U.S. government departments. For example, weapons intelligence would be under the U.S. Department of Defense, political intelligence under the State Department and non-public economic intelligence under the Commerce Department.
