Jihadists admit to beheading girl backpackers

(New York Post)  -  Three jihadists admitted to butchering two Scandinavian backpackers in an ISIS-inspired execution in Morroco after failing to join the extremist group.
Abdessamad Ejjoud — the suspected leader — confessed Thursday in Morrocan court to beheading one of the hikers to pledge allegiance to the Islamic State.
I beheaded one of them … I regret it,” Ejjoud, 33, said, according to the BBC.
Youness Ouziyad, 27, also admitted to the grisly slaughter, while a third suspect, Rachid Afatti, 33, said he filmed the slayings in a video shared with ISIS supporters.
Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, 24, from Denmark, and Maren Ueland, 28, from Norway, were beheaded Dec. 17 in a tent near Mount Toubkal, one of Morocco’s highest peaks.
The women — who were roommates at Norway’s Bo University — had traveled to the High Atlas mountains on a Christmas camping trip, according to BBC.
Three days before the killings, the trio pledged allegiance to ISIS, but were “lone wolves” and had no contact the group, authorities said.
“We loved IS and we prayed to God for it,” Ejjoud told the court.
The trio could face the death penalty for their role in the murders. They are on trial along with 21 other defendants on terrorism-related charges.
