(CNS News) - A majority of likely voters do not agree with House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that it would be “immoral” to build a wall to secure the nation’s southern border, a new national Rasmussen Poll shows.
While 53% of voters say a border wall is not immoral, 40% say it is. Only 7% are “not sure” whether or not a wall is immoral.
Views differed most drastically when broken out by political affiliation of likely voters, the survey shows, with 80% of Republicans saying the wall is not immoral and 65% of Democrats saying it is immoral. Fifty-eight percent of likely voters answering “Other” as their party say a border wall is not immoral.
“Is it immoral for the United States to build a wall on the border with Mexico to help stop illegal immigration?”
Republicans:
- Immoral: 18%
- Not Immoral: 80%
- Not Sure: 2%
Democrats:
- Immoral: 65%
- Not Immoral: 25%
- Not Sure: 10%
Other:
- Immoral: 32%
- Not Immoral: 58%
- Not Sure: 10%
Rasmussen’s results are based on a national survey of 1,000 likely voters conducted Jan. 10-13, 2019.
