AT&T spies on you for Big Brother Obama

"Under the spreading chestnut tree. I sold you and you sold me."
George Orwell - 1984

Constitution?  What Constitution?
Dear Leader Obama grants immunity to telecommunication companies so they can spy on you as agents of Big Brother.
(Please note - The GOP is totally silent.)

Police State  -  Justice Department has agreed to issue "2511 letters" immunizing AT&T and other companies participating in a cybersecurity program from criminal prosecution under the Wiretap Act, according to new documents obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Center.

Senior Obama administration officials have secretly authorized the interception of communications carried on portions of networks operated by AT&T and other Internet service providers, a practice that might otherwise be illegal under federal wiretapping laws.

The secret legal authorization from the Justice Department originally applied to a cybersecurity pilot project in which the military monitored defense contractors' Internet links. Since then, however, the program has been expanded by President Obama to cover all critical infrastructure sectors including energy, healthcare, and finance starting June 12 reports Cnet News.

Judge Napolitano:  CISPA Is A Direct Assault On Privacy

"The Justice Department is helping private companies evade federal wiretap laws," said Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, which obtained over 1,000 pages of internal government documents and provided them to CNET this week. "Alarm bells should be going off."

Those documents show the National Security Agency and the Defense Department were deeply involved in pressing for the secret legal authorization, with NSA director Keith Alexander participating in some of the discussions personally. Despite initial reservations, including from industry participants, Justice Department attorneys eventually signed off on the project.

The Justice Department agreed to grant legal immunity to the participating network providers in the form of what participants in the confidential discussions refer to as "2511 letters," a reference to the Wiretap Act codified at 18 USC 2511 in the federal statute books.

The Wiretap Act limits the ability of Internet providers to eavesdrop on network traffic except when monitoring is a "necessary incident" to providing the service or it takes place with a user's "lawful consent." An industry representative told CNET the 2511 letters provided legal immunity to the providers by agreeing not to prosecute for criminal violations of the Wiretap Act. It's not clear how many 2511 letters were issued by the Justice Department.

In 2011, Deputy Secretary of Defense William Lynn publicly disclosed the existence of the original project, called the DIB Cyber Pilot, which used login banners to inform network users that monitoring was taking place. In May 2012, the pilot was turned into an ongoing program -- broader but still voluntary -- by the name of Joint Cybersecurity Services Pilot, with the Department of Homeland Security becoming involved for the first time. It was renamed again to Enhanced Cybersecurity Services program in January, and is currently being expanded to all types of companies operating critical infrastructure.

A report (PDF) published last month by the Congressional Research Service, a non-partisan arm of Congress, says the executive branch likely does not have the legal authority to authorize more widespread monitoring of communications unless Congress rewrites the law. "Such an executive action would contravene current federal laws protecting electronic communications," the report says.

Because it overrides all federal and state privacy laws, including the Wiretap Act, legislation called CISPA would formally authorize the program without the government resorting to 2511 letters. In other words, if CISPA, which the U.S. House of Representatives approved last week, becomes law, any data-sharing program would be placed on a solid legal footing. AT&T, Verizon, and wireless and cable providers have all written letters endorsing CISPA.

Approval of the 2511 letters came after concerns from within the Justice Department and from industry. An internal e-mail thread among senior Defense Department, Homeland Security, and Justice Department officials in 2011.

The 2014 campaign posters are up early.

Kansas tells Eric Holder to Shove it

“The right to keep and bear arms is a right that Kansans hold dear. . . . . The people of Kansas have clearly expressed their sovereign will.” - - - Gov. Sam Brownback (R)

A new law in Kansas that prevents government agents from enforcing federal gun laws in the state was declared unconstitutional by Leftist Comrade Attorney General Eric Holder.

“In purporting to override federal law and to criminalize the official acts of federal officers, [the law] directly conflicts with federal law and is therefore unconstitutional,” Comrade Holder wrote to GOP Gov. Sam Brownback in a letter dated April 26. “Federal officers who are responsible for enforcing federal laws and regulations in order to maintain public safety cannot be forced to choose between the risk of a criminal prosecution by a state and the continued performance of their federal duties.”

The measure, known as the Second Amendment Protection Act, prevents any law enforcement official from enforcing any federal regulation or law governing any firearm, accessory, or ammunition “manufactured commercially or privately and owned in Kansas, provided it remains within the borders of Kansas,” reports the Washington Times.

Constitutional Federalist Governor Sam Brownback

It also exempts any firearm of the same description from federal regulation and allows state officials to enjoin agents from enforcing federal gun laws regarding firearms owned in the state.

Holder cites the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which says federal law trumps conflicting state authority or exercise of power. Kansas’s law became effective April 25.

Naturally Holder did not mention the 10th Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

Holder wrote that federal authorities “will continue to execute their duties to enforce all federal firearms laws and regulations. Moreover, the United States will take all appropriate action, including litigation if necessary, to prevent the State of Kansas from interfering with the activities of federal officials enforcing federal law.”

Brownback replied to Holder on Thursday.

“The right to keep and bear arms is a right that Kansans hold dear,” Governor Brownback wrote in a letter dated May 2. “It is a right enshrined not only in the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, but also protected by the Kansas Bill of Rights.

“The people of Kansas have repeatedly and overwhelmingly reaffirmed their commitment to protecting this fundamental right. The people of Kansas are likewise committed to defending the sovereignty of the State of Kansas as guaranteed in the Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the United States Constitution,” he said.

Brownback goes on to write that the legislation was passed on wide and bipartisan votes in the Kansas House of Representatives and the Kansas Senate (96-24 and 35-4, respectively), and that the Democratic minority leader in each chamber supported it.

“This is not a partisan issue in Kansas,” he wrote. “The people of Kansas have clearly expressed their sovereign will. It is my hope that upon further review, you will see their right to do so.”

A handful of states proposed similar laws as Congress was weighing measures to ban semiautomatic, military-style rifles and high-capacity magazines, as well as expanded background checks on gun purchases.

An effort to expand gun-purchase background checks to sales online and at gun shows recently stalled in the U.S. Senate, though some proponents say similar legislation could be brought up later this year.

"With respect to his concern that federal officials be allowed to enforce federal laws, Mr. Holder’s statement is a curious one. He was evidently not concerned that ATFE officials be allowed to enforce federal law when his agency oversaw the “fast and furious” operation to walk guns into the hands of Mexican cartels.

The State of Kansas is determined to restore the Constitution and to protect the right of its citizens to keep and bear arms."

UKIP surges in UK elections - Conservatives near collapse

UKIP crushed the ruling Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties
  • Conservatives come in 3rd place.  Liberal Democrats at 7th place.
  • Ukip is managing to reach out to disillusioned former Labour and Liberal Democrat voters as well as Conservatives.

Labour coasted to a comfortable victory today in the South Shields by-election, with the UK Independence Party finishing in a strong second place.
.
The contest was triggered by the decision of the former Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, to stand down to become the head of a charity based in New York.

Defeat in a seat Labour has held for 78 years would have been a disaster for the party, but Emma Lewell-Buck, a South Tyneside councillor, held on with 12,493 votes and 50 per cent share of the vote reports the UK Independent.

But the party saw its majority cut to 6,505 as Ukip’s Richard Elvin won 5,988 votes. At the general election Mr Miliband piled up a majority of 11,109.

Ukip did not even stand in South Shields three years ago, but appears to have benefited from a fall in support from all three major parties.

Its impressive performance follows its second place finishes in recent by-elections in Eastleigh, Middlesbrough and Rotherham.

It underlines the momentum building behind the anti-European Union party across much of England and suggests Ukip is managing to reach out to disillusioned former Labour and Liberal Democrat voters as well as Conservatives.

The Conservatives came third with just 2,857 votes, while the Liberal Democrats suffered the indignity of losing their deposit as they finished seventh with 352 votes. Nick Clegg's party trailed in behind two independent candidates and the British National Party.

The UK Independence Party have made early gains as the results of council elections across England are declared.

UKIP have won at least 26 seats so far and are averaging 26% of the vote in the wards where they are standing.

Polling expert Prof John Curtice said it was a "remarkable performance" reports BBC News.

The Conservatives have lost control of Lincolnshire and Gloucestershire councils, but retained five others, while Labour made modest gains in the Midlands and the south of England.

Contests are taking place in 27 English county councils and seven unitary authorities as well as Anglesey in Wales. About 2,300 council seats are up for grabs in England, in a major mid-term test for the coalition government.

Most of the counts will take place later on Friday.

UKIP is riding high in the opinion polls and fielded more than 1,700 candidates - three times the number that stood in 2009.

Book Review - The Revolution of American Conservatism

Book Review
The Revolution of American Conservatism
The Federalist Party in the Era of Jeffersonian Democracy
By David Hackett Fischer
(1965)  -  Out of print book

By Gary;

I have been blessed with a very large and extensive local public library with some books going back to the 1840s.

In wandering through the stacks I ran across this book which is perfect for my area of interest  -  The Federalist Party.

In recent years I have been exploring the politics of the early American Republic to fill in the massive gaps that neither high school teachers nor college have filled.  Basically, according to our teachers George Washington was President and then came the "great" Thomas Jefferson, he who must be worshipped no matter what.  Period.

The fact that an entire political party existed and was dedicated to opposing Jefferson is glossed over very rapidly by our teachers.  After all, who could possible oppose Jefferson?  That is "crazy" talk.  Students are never told about the huge number of Founding Fathers and their followers who worked for years to oppose Jefferson's brand of republicanism.

The book's author provides wonderful and detailed information on America's first two-party system between Alexander Hamilton's Conservative Federalist Party and Jefferson's Democrat-Republican Party.

The book covers not just the politics, but it documents the massive shift in American society itself.

"I fear Federalism will not only die,
but all rememberence of it will be lost."
Fisher Ames (1807)
Federalist Congressman
.
Changes in Society  -  The book covers changes in America from 1800 to 1816.  American society was changing from the powdered wig colonial society of gentlemen and sturdy yeomen patriots who looked to England.

As America moved west more and more voters were interested in stealing land from our neighbors like Spain and Canada than in the international commerce of the Federalist dominate coastal cities.

But no study of the period can ignore the massive influence of the French Revolution, the Terror that murdered 40,000 people followed by the dictatorship and endless wars of the Emperor Napoleon.

It should be remembered that a French army was sent to the New World to put down the slave revolt in Haiti.  More than 50,000 French troops died in an attempt to retake the colony.  That huge French army could just as easily landed in Virginia.

A comparison of the French Revolution to the rise and military expansion of violent 1950s Communism is a good one.  Both the French and Communist events seriously impacted American politics and the economy.

The author shows larger and larger shares of the American electorate turning against the very Federalist Founding Fathers who fought against monarchy and created the Republic in the first place.  There was a tide of radical egalitarian French inspired anarchy in the air and the Jeffersonians were encouraging the movement in order to gain political power for themselves.

Many have pointed out that a wealthy, over educated, slave owning Jefferson was hardly a man of the people.  But facts have nothing to do with politics.  It is about feelings and emotion.  Jefferson was acting as a symbol for the lower classes looking for more "free" land in the West.

"We must consider whether it be
possible for us to succeed, without,
in some degree, employing the
weapons which have been
employed against us."
Alexander Hamilton (1802)

American society was dividing into rival camps.

Jeffersonian Republicans favored French clothing while Federalist British styles.  Emotions were running so high that members of each party would throw the members of other out of different local social groups.  Family members would even refuse to attend funerals of dead members of the other party.

The Revolution of 1800  -  The author shows how the Jeffersonian Revolution almost did not happen.  The Federalist Party only lost New York's electoral College votes because of a hand full of New York City ballots rounded up by Tammany Hall "ward healer" Aaron Burr.  But politics itself was changing.

The author tells how 18th century politicians stood for office and did not campaign to voters.  Burr and Republicans around the country changed the rules and took an active face to face campaign directly to voters.  Jeffersonian "Republican Societies" were created nationwide.  Jeffersonian newspapers were started to control the news.  Get out the vote efforts were becoming the norm.

The wealthy plantation owning Jefferson himself demagogued to lower income voters about the evil rich monarchist Federalists.   Never mind that the Federalists fought to overthrow the monarchy.

Propaganda and class warfare was now the rule of the day in American politics.

Politics changed with direct campaigning to voters
.
"We must court popular favor. We must study popular opinion and accommodate measures to what it is." - - - Fisher Ames, Federalist Congressman
.
"Honest, independent men of talents should yield so far to public opinion, as to retain the confidence of the people; for without that confidence, they are lost . . . If they do not lead the people, fools and knaves will."  - - - Noah Webster, Federalist
.
"The leading Federalists are gentlemen of fortune, talents and education, the natural leaders of the country. The leaders of the democratic party, on the other hand, are for the most part, what may be called politicians of fortune; adventurers who follow politics as a profession. With them politics are pecuniary, with the Federalists, they are a secondary consideration."
- - - An Englishman wrote of politics while touring 18th century Virginia

Electioneering Techniques  -  The author details political pandering to the mass of often uninformed voters.  The 1800 - 1816 period refined this new election technique pioneered by the Jeffersonians.

The author shows how the Federalist fell behind in the political arms race of direct electioneering and pandering.  But slowly they started to copy Republican party organization.  The Federalists started party newspapers to get the word out.

Then a party caucus system started to form.  The first Federalist caucus was formed in New York state where a state central committee of 50 members was elected.  The state was divided into four districts with sub-committees at county and town levels.  The committee nominated the Federalist candidate for Governor and planned campaign strategy.  Other states soon followed.

As a young attorney, Roger Taney copied the
Jeffersonians and organized the Federalist Party
in Maryland to better reach out to the mass
of voters with committees, mass meetings,
barbecues and a Federalist newspaper.
Committees engaged in party fundraising. They organized the systematic distribution of pamphlets, broadsides and ballots.

Mass voter meetings were organized.  In 1808 a Boston Grand Caucus attracted 4,000 Federalists.  Jeffersonians used BBQs to entertains partisans.  The Federalists adopted the system along with "turtle dinners", clambakes and "oyster roasts".  Both parties sponsored separate holiday events on Independence Day with speeches, parades and fireworks.

Candidates for high office even started to personally campaign.  In 1808 James Ross, Federalist candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania, spent two months on the road meeting people, visiting churches and making promises.

By 1808 every voter in New York city was given a Federal ballot (parties printed their own ballots then).  The modern campaign was here.

There was also a new class of "leader" - the professional politician.  Gone were the days of gentlemen like George Washington who did public service and then returned to his farm.  Now America saw a new class of politician that did nothing for a living except politics.  The term politics even changed to mean a negative.

Searching for Major Issues_- The author shows that like politicians to this day, the Federalists started to "moderate" their views on some key issues in order to broaden their voter appeal while searching for major issues to use against the Republicans.

In using current issues, Federalists flocked to defend Vice President Aaron Burr in Jefferson's phony, trumped up treason trial and accused the Republicans of being French "mobocrats".

"Pro Patria" ("For Country")

The Federalists attacked Jefferson's refusal to build up the American military to stand up against British impressment of sailors.  Rather than spend money on the navy, the Republicans passed Embargo Act of 1807 that directly crushed the businesses and voters in Federalist controlled states and created unemployment.

Federalists used the run-up to the War of 1812 as a major issue.  Federalist declared themselves party of "Peace, Union and Commerce."

The Federalist newspapers used Jeffersonian mob riots in cities like Baltimore to stir the voters to their cause.  This new type of anti-war issue oriented direct electioneering worked.  In 1812 the Federalists swept the elections in Maryland and in other areas.  The party added 32 Congressional House seats and doubled their number of US Senators in the next 3 national elections.

Washington Benevolent Societies

The author notes how the Jeffersonians broke new political ground in popular politics with the creation of Republican or Democrat societies to promote candidate for election.

The societies were closely connected with sympathy for the French Revolution.  But many of these groups faded as the French Terror killed tens of thousands of people.  In the late 1790s the groups reformed calling themselves "Republican Societies" or "Friends of the People."

The Federalist were suspicious of these rabble rousing type groups and had to pay political catch up.

That changed in January, 1800 with the creation of the "Washington Society of Alexandria" by a group of prominent Virginia gentlemen.  Dues was $4 a year.  A larger sum of money for the time.

For several years this was the only group of its kind.  As disenchantment with Jefferson grew new chapters of Washington Societies began to spring up around the nation.  With the insane Jeffersonian Embargo Act causing depression and unemployment there was an explosion of Washington chapters.

1808 Washington Benevolent Society Silver Medal.
The author managed to count at least 208 Washington Societies around the nation.  The largest was the Washington Society of Pennsylvania with over 3,000 members as of 1816.

The Boston Society had 1,647 members and the Berkshire County, Massachusetts Society had 2,300.  The only chapters in the West were in Ohio, the rest were in the east.

The author even presented detailed breakdowns of the occupations of the memberships in several chapters.  Some 80% of the Philadelphia chapter membership was made up of the middle classes of professionals, merchants and shopkeepers.

New members were required to take a solemn oath to support the Constitution, stay true to Washington's principals and "to oppose all encroachments of Democracy, Aristocracy, or Despotism."   To stand for a Constitutional Republican form of government rather than mob rule.

Washington Benevolent Society toast:

"To the Tree of our Liberty - May the apes of French policy no longer suspend
themselves from its branches, nor the jackals of the French emperor
repose in its shade."

For a political junkie like myself I could go on and on.  The volume of detail of early American politics in this book moves into the excruciating category.  There is also the bewildering numbers of Federalist politicians, both major and minor, that the author covers.  But I have to say there is nothing like this study that I have ever seen.  The book is a wonderful read if you can find it.

German Jihadists on Syria's Battlefields

Jihadists from Germany are engaging in combat, and dying, on the side of the rebels in Syria.
  • And Comrade Obama and the Western nations keep pouring hundreds of millions in tax money to support the rebels.

Der Spiegel  -  A young man in his mid-twenties with a stubbly beard is driving a delivery van through the rubble-strewn streets of the northern Syrian town of Azaz. He speaks excellent German and calls himself Yousuf. The man in the passenger seat is around the same age and also sports a beard. He won't even reveal his first name, but he also speaks nearly perfect German.

"After we go back home, we don't want any problems with Germany's foreign and domestic intelligence agencies," says Yousuf. This also explains why the two men refuse to divulge what city in Germany they come from. "Before we entered Syria, the Turks had already put our passport information into their system," he adds. "They know exactly who we are. If they pass that on to the Germans, we're sunk, even though we're just here on a humanitarian mission."

A humanitarian mission? That's the euphemism foreign Jihadists use when they try to explain their presence in Syria.

There are reportedly a few hundred Muslims from Western countries who are fighting alongside the rebels to topple Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. It's a relatively small number compared to the perhaps 100,000 insurgents in the country.

"We know that jihadists from Germany, who we have already been observing here at home, are currently in Syria and fighting there," German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said last week. German intelligence agencies are primarily concerned that such men will be trained during the civil war and later return to the West as radicalized extremists -- assuming they survive.

Chechen Jihadists in Syria Announce new Extremist Brigade
Documenting the Presence of Extremist Groups in the Syrian Conflict. A Chechen Islamist using the nom do guerre Emir Abu Omar Al Chechen speaks in Russian at the announcement of a new Jihadist brigade which combines the existing Chechen dominated Kateeb Al Muhajireen (Immigrants Brigade) with several majority Syrian Islamist militias. He mentions fighting in Afghanistan and the need to kill infidels and apostates (Shia).

The 'Land of Sham'

The men of the Islamist Al-Nusra Front, who see their group as part of al-Qaida, are not particularly concerned about losses among their own ranks. In a small shop in Azaz, one of the group's commanders is sitting with a young Libyan who has just arrived.

First, he explains to the new arrival that in the Support Front they don't use the name "Syria," but rather the "Land of Sham." Both "Land of Sham" and "Greater Syria" are nationalist terms that refer to a geographical space covering nearly the entire Levant, which the fighters hope to transform into one big Islamic state.

Then the older man says to the younger one: "I hope that you will soon die in battle and go to paradise."

Many foreign Jihadists are between the ages of 18 and 28 and of Arab descent, or at least from Muslim families -- and have no combat experience whatsoever. They are essentially cannon fodder.

They come from Gulf states like Saudi Arabia, from North Africa, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain and North America. Most of them receive rudimentary training in camps, primarily in northern Syria.

The Libyans have a special status. Speaking via Skype, a physician from the western Libyan city of Zawiya talks about how he lost a relative in Syria. "When our young men leave Libya, they are very rarely radical Islamists," he says, "but when they return, we hardly recognize them anymore. They have been brainwashed."

For the full article go to Der Spiegel - International.

Estimates that there are now between 2,000 and 5,500 foreign Jihadists in Syria, and the EU's top terrorism officials have stated that at least 500 of those come from EU countries. Officials fear that these "guest warriors" are gaining weapons know-how and ties with other extremists, and that they might bring Jihad when they return home.

"Supporting Jihadists in Syria also gives the Saudis an opportunity to ship their own radicals to Syria, where they can fight & possibly die "
.
With a large number of unemployed, underemployed and radicalized young men, the Jihad in Syria provides a pressure valve similar to the past struggles in Iraq, Chechnya, Bosnia and Afghanistan. The Saudis are not only trying to winnow down their own troubled youth; we have received reports from a credible source that the Saudis are also facilitating the travel of Yemeni men to training camps in Turkey, where they are trained and equipped before being sent to Syria to fight.
.
The reports also indicate that the young men are traveling for free and receiving a stipend for their service. These young radicals from Saudi Arabia and Yemen will even further strengthen the Jihadist groups in Syria by providing them with fresh troops.   (Uprooted Palestinians.blogspot)

Obama nominee: 'Take the vote away from whites'

Democrat Racism
Obama Housing Nominee: White People Who Won’t Vote For A Black Candidate Should Be Excluded From “Democratic Process”

President Obama’s pick to head the Federal Housing Finance Agency once said that a “majority of white voters” would never vote for a black candidate and that they should be excluded from “the democratic process.”

The White House announced Wednesday that Obama will nominate Democratic North Carolina Congressman Mel Watt to take over the FHFA, which regulates Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the country’s government sponsored mortgage companies reports the Daily Caller.

Watt, the former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, has in the past accused white Americans of racism.

“There would be a substantial majority of white voters who would say that under no circumstances would they vote for an African American candidate,” Watt said October 14, 2005 during a Washington hearing held by the National Commission on the Voting Rights Act.

Alcohol ban and women only pools in Egypt

Insane Islamist women only pools in Egypt
Crazy ass Muslim fanatics are frightened to death that a
real woman might want show her beauty to the world.

Egyptian tourism managers celebrated the opening of an alcohol-free hotel at the popular beach resort of Hurghada over the weekend, a move they hoped would lure conservative Muslim tourists to a region popular with foreign and local visitors.

Le Roi Hotel is one of the first "dry" hotels to open on Egypt's Red Sea coast, and comes as liberals voice concerns that Islamists who came to power last year were seeking to limit personal freedoms and impose conservative ideology.
Praise God for free women.

Egyptians on Twitter reacted to their country’s opening of the first alcohol-free inn in the Red Sea area of Hurghada, a major tourist hub.

“What is this commotion about a hotel without alcohol in Hurghada, what is worrying them [Islamists] is alcohol only? What happened to [sexual] harassments? Or those who accuse others of being blasphemous for not following their way? You have no other problems?” ‏@noranor posted in Arabic on Twitter.

“A hotel without alcohol? Definitely a silly achievement for the president,” another critical tweep, @ayaabdullah, said on Sunday, referring to Islamist President Mohammed Mursi, who hails from the Muslim Brotherhood movement reports Al Arabiya.

However, others had a different point of view expressing their confusion over why some dislike the Islamist Egyptian president.

“Why are people fighting Mursi and his regime when alcohol is clearly [rejected],” Twitter user ‏@amorashed2h, who clearly supported the alcohol-free hotel, said.

Others, like ‏@TamerAwad, said: “If Egypt’s Islamist regime wanted to ban alcohol, it would have done so.”

Proud Islamists

Meanwhile, Islamists and Salafists in Egypt have described the opening of the alcohol-free hotel as “historic,” Al-Mesryoon website reported.

A top Sunni cleric in the Red Sea, Sheikh Ahmed Tawofee, was at the hotel opening and reiterated that the inauguration was “historic,” the report said, adding the hotel gives tourists a chance for “good, clean and healthy fun.”

A video posted on YouTube shows hotel managers celebrating the launch by smashing bottles of alcohol and pouring out their contents.

The three-star establishment has 134 rooms and 35 suits. It also allocated the top floor and a swimming pool to women only.

It also provides various services, including treatment for alcohol addiction.

An Egyptian official said in February that the government would no longer issue or renew licenses for the sale of alcohol in new residential settlements on the outskirts of Cairo, Alexandria and other big cities.

California Democrats act to end oil drilling

Socialists move to crush oil industry jobs
Leftist loon Socialist Democrats to abolish both jobs and taxpayers in one vote.

The People's Republic of California  -  An Assembly panel run by Leftist Democrat Socialists approved a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing by oil and natural-gas producers until the most populous U.S. state assesses health and environmental concerns.

Naturally those "concerns" will never be addressed to the satisfaction of the Leftists.

The bill by nut job Adrin Nazarian, a Los Angeles Democrat, is opposed by the oil industry through the Western States Petroleum Association, which says hydraulic fracturing has been used safely for more than 60 years. Democrats on the Natural Resources Committee approved the measure 5-3 on a party-line vote.  The Socialist Democrats control the Legislature.

Fracking, a drilling technique that forces millions of gallons of water, sand and chemicals deep underground to free trapped oil and gas, has come under fire from environmentalists as a threat to water resources. California -- the fourth-largest oil-producing state -- is working on industry-backed standards to allow its use to continue.

New York and New Jersey have moratoriums in place reports Bloomberg News.

“We must identify the risks and ensure the public that we are doing everything in our power to protect them,” said Assemblyman Richard Bloom, a Santa Monica Democrat who proposed one of two other measures that would place a moratorium on fracking. Both also passed the committee.

Nazarian’s bill would require the secretaries of the California Natural Resources Agency and the California Environmental Protection Agency to lead a study to determine whether fracking can be done without risk.

“The oil and gas industry is one of the few economic drivers this state has left, and legislative Democrats are ready to regulate it out of existence,” said Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, a Republican from Bakersfield .

A separate bill pending in a Senate committee would allow fracking to continue, but impose a moratorium if the state’s Natural Resources Agency fails to complete a comprehensive scientific study on the potential risks of fracking by 2015.

California’s Conservation Department, which oversees oil and gas production, released proposed rules in December for storing and handling fracking fluids, well monitoring after fracking and preventing water contamination.

California’s Monterey Shale formation contains an estimated 15.4 billion barrels of recoverable oil.  About 100,000 people in California worked in oil and gas production in 2009, generating about $5.8 billion in revenue from excise and income taxes, according to the Senate report. Developing the Monterey Shale may mean 2.8 million more jobs and $24.6 billion in state and local revenue by 2020, according to a report from the University of Southern California.

In 1994 the California legislature codified the ban on new oil field leases by passing the California Coastal Sanctuary Act, which prohibited new leasing of state offshore tracts.

Global warming will force women into prostitution

Democrats claim
Global Warming will drive women to prostitution

Failing to address climate change could drive women into prostitution, said 13 House Democrats who signed a resolution saying women are affected more negatively than men by the dramatic weather shifts.

The claim comes from the argument that climate change hampers farmers and that most farmers in developing countries are female reports the Washington Times.

Rep. Barbara Lee, California Democrat, said in The Hill that “food insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy and poor reproductive health.”

Moreover, climate change could turn entire populations into refugees — again, affecting women the most, the resolution suggested.

Hurricane Katrina, after all, displaced “over 83 percent of [the area’s] low-income, single mothers,” the resolution said. Congress, therefore, should use “gender-specific frameworks in developing policies to address climate change,” the resolution advised.
