• Australia is selling off their farmland to the government of Qatar.
• They are becoming a "Food Colony" for the Gulf Arab state.  Farmers will no longer own the land they work.  They will become hourly workers of foreign Masters. 

Hassad Australia, a subsidiary of Hassad Foods, a company owned by the Qatar government, has recently 40,000 hectares in western Victoria, The Land reported.

The acquisition brings Hassad Australia’s total up to 250,000 hectacres: farmland spread across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia reports Farland Grab.

Hassad Australia chief executive Tom McKeon said that since the company’s establishment in Australia its land purchases have been guided by risk minimising strategy. The lands are distributed across different climes and water regimes over a wide geographic area.

This distribution of risk is not surprising in light of growing food security concerns harboured by Middle East countries. In 2009 Hassad Foods established a 100% subsidiary in Australia, focusing on sheep and grains. In 2010 Hassad Foods announced it would invest up to US$700 million in projects around the world in order to ensure Qatari food security.

And beginning this year Qatari crown prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani issued a decree to organise the Qatar National Food Security Program (QNFSP), promoting domestic farming.

Securing water intensive crops and a reliable farm productivity formed the pillars of Qatar’s food security programme, though this years announcement may be an indication that Qatar is refocusing on domestic production.     (theage.com)       (farmlandgrab.org)

No Property Rights  -  1.5 million people in Ethiopia have their land stolen and are re-settled by government force

• The former Communist Government of Ethiopia sells the farmer's land out from under them.
• Five are killed in an ambush as people fight back.

Virtually all of the Ethiopian villagers interviewed by Human Rights Watch said that their move was an involuntary, forced process. While all villages reported being engaged in some form of “consultation,” it took the form of government officials “informing” people that they would be moved to a new location. Villagers said that in many of these meetings, they did not utter a word for fear of reprisal by the authorities. And their fears were justified: those who expressed concern or question the government’s motives were frequently threatened, beaten, and arrested by police or soldiers. A villager told Human Rights Watch:

"The government came and talked to the village elders and those that are influential. Then the government together with the soldiers and elders called us for a meeting where we were told we were to be moved. There was no consultation or opportunity for dialogue, they were just informing us. Those that spoke up are considered “inciters,” and five of them were arrested from the two villages. They were in prison for between 20 days and one month, and were released on the condition they do not speak against villagization. So either they are silent or they flee."   (Human Rights Watch)

By 2013 the Ethiopian government is planning to resettle 1.5 million people.  The land that they farmed for centuries will be taken from them and given to multi-national corporations.

The Alwero river in Ethiopia’s Gambela region provides both sustenance and identity for the indigenous Anuak people who have fished its waters and farmed its banks and surrounding lands for centuries. Some Anuak are pastoralists, but most are farmers who move to drier areas in the rainy season before returning to the river banks. This seasonal agricultural cycle helps nurture and maintain soil fertility. It also helps structure the culture around the collective repetition of traditional cultivation practices related to rainfall and rising rivers as each community looks after its own territory and the waters and farmlands within it.

One new plantation in Gambela, owned by Saudi-based billionaire Mohammed al-Amoudi, is irrigated with water diverted from the Alwero River. Thousands of people depend on Alwero's water for their survival and Al-Moudi's industrial irrigation plans could undermine their access to it. In April 2012, tensions over the project spilled over, when an armed group ambushed Al-Amoudi's Saudi Star Development Company operations, leaving five people dead.

The tensions in south western Ethiopia illustrate the central importance of access to water in the global land rush. Hidden behind the current scramble for land is a world-wide struggle for control over water. Those who have been buying up vast stretches of farmland in recent years, whether they are based in Addis Ababa, Dubai or London, understand that the access to water they gain, often included for free and without restriction, may well be worth more over the long-term, than the land deals themselves.

In recent years, Saudi Arabian companies have been acquiring millions of hectares of lands overseas to produce food to ship back home. Saudi Arabia does not lack land for food production. What’s missing in the Kingdom is water, and its companies are seeking it in countries like Ethiopia.

Indian companies like Bangalore-based Karuturi Global are doing the same. Aquifers across the sub-continent have been depleted by decades of unsustainable irrigation. The only way to feed India's growing population, the claim is made, is by sourcing food production overseas, where water is more available.

"The value is not in the land," says Neil Crowder of UK-based Chayton Capital which has been acquiring farmland in Zambia. "The real value is in water.”

And companies like Chayton Capital think that Africa is the best place to find that water. The message repeated at farmland investor conferences around the globe is that water is abundant in Africa. It is said that Africa’s water resources are vastly under utilised, and ready to be harnessed for export oriented agriculture projects.

The reality is that a third of Africans already live in water-scarce environments and climate change is likely to increase these numbers significantly. Massive land deals could rob millions of people of their access to water and risk the depletion of the continent's most precious fresh water sources.

All of the land deals in Africa involve large-scale, industrial agriculture operations that will consume massive amounts of water. Nearly all of them are located in major river basins with access to irrigation. They occupy fertile and fragile wetlands, or are located in more arid areas that can draw water from major rivers. In some cases the farms directly access ground water by pumping it up. These water resources are lifelines for local farmers, pastoralists and other rural communities. Many already lack sufficient access to water for their livelihoods. If there is anything to be learnt from the past, it is that such mega-irrigation schemes can not only put the livelihoods of millions of rural communities at risk, they can threaten the freshwater sources of entire regions.    (farmlandgrab.org)

A world economic meltdown?

Will the economy of the world meltdown?  The entire economy of the U.S. and Europe is floating on a sea of international "debt sharing" and pretend printing press money.  It is a giant Socialist Ponzi Scheme, and some point someone gets left holding trillions in worthless debt.

Simply, there is not enough money in the world to cover Big Government Socialist spending.
Now in another round of Ponzi debt games two European rescue funds are to be used to buy the debts of the troubled economies, the cost of which have reached record highs in recent weeks.

Under the proposed deal, two European rescue funds will pour in billions:

• £400 billion (€500  billion) European Stability Mechanism (ESM) 
• £200 billion (€250  billion) European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF)

They will buy bonds issued by European countries in one giant Ponzi scheme to prop up the European Socialist Welfare State.

The European Central Bank previously bought about £170 billion (€210 billion) of bonds in this way but stopped last year.

Italy risks being pulled back to the heart of the euro zone debt crisis as the fallout from a Spanish bank bailout makes market access more expensive even though Italian economic fundamentals are seen as stronger than Spain's.

The correlation between moves in Italian and Spanish bonds has risen sharply since March, showing the increased risk attached to holding Spanish debt is feeding through to Italy.

Many in markets believe rising borrowing costs will push Spain into a sovereign bailout, damaging investor confidence in lower-rated euro zone debt such as Italy's and depleting the regional funds available if Rome needed assistance.

Spain is the euro zone's fourth largest economy and Italy the third. If Spain were to need a sovereign bailout, which many analysts predict, it would exhaust the region's rescue funds.

Contagion risk could make it increasingly costly for Italy, seen as the country most likely to fall under market scrutiny after Spain, to raise funds in debt markets in the absence of a crisis solution or further European Central Bank bond purchases.

The Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously threw out fines and other penalties against broadcast companies that violated the Federal Communications Commission policy regulating curse words and nudity on television airwaves.

But the justices declined to issue a broad ruling on the constitutionality of the FCC's indecency policy. Instead, the court concluded only that broadcasters could not have known in advance that obscenities uttered during awards show programs and a brief display of nudity on an episode of ABC's "NYPD Blue" could give rise to penalties. ABC and 45 affiliates were hit with proposed fines totaling nearly $1.24 million.     (AP News)

The Supreme Court in a 7-2 judgment written by Justice Samuel Alito ruled Thursday that unions must give nonmembers an immediate chance to object to unexpected fee increases or special assessments that all workers are required to pay in closed-shop situations.

The court ruled for Dianne Knox and other nonmembers of the Service Employees International Union's Local 1000, who wanted to object and opt out of a $12 million special assessment the union required from its California public sector members for political campaigning. Knox and others said the union did not give them a legally required notice that the increase was coming.

"When a public-sector union imposes a special assessment or dues increase, the union must provide a fresh ... notice and may not exact any funds from nonmembers without their affirmative consent," Alito said.     (AP News)

A Saudi man has been beheaded on charges of sorcery and witchcraft, the state news agency SPA says.

The man, Muree bin Ali bin Issa al-Asiri, was found in possession of books and talismans, SPA said. He had also admitted adultery with two women, it said.

The execution took place in the southern Najran province, SPA reported.

Human rights groups have repeatedly condemned executions for witchcraft in Saudi Arabia.

Last year, there were reports of at least two people being executed for sorcery.

Asiri was beheaded after his sentence was upheld by the country's highest courts, the Saudi news agency website said.

No details were given of what he was found guilty of beyond the charges of witchcraft and sorcery.

More recent cases of death on charges of sorcery include that of a Saudi woman, executed for committing sorcery and witchcraft in December, in the northern province of Jawf, and that of a Sudanese man executed in September, despite calls led by Amnesty International for his release.     (BBC News)

Senate ignores Rand Paul's bill requiring search warrants

Constitutional Federalist Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) introduced the Preserving Freedom from Unwarranted Surveillance Act, which would require the government to get a warrant before using aerial drones to surveil U.S. citizens.

More broadly, Paul's bill is aimed at preventing "unwarranted governmental intrusion" through the use of drones, according to the lawmaker.

Only Senator Jim DeMint put his name on the bill as a co-sponsor.  Every other Democrat and Republican in the Senate effectively told the American people to go fuck themselves.  The Bill of Rights no longer exists.

"Like other tools used to collect information in law enforcement, in order to use drones a warrant needs to be issued," said Paul. "Americans going about their everyday lives should not be treated like criminals or terrorists and have their rights infringed upon by military tactics."

The bill, S. 3287, would require the government to obtain a warrant to use drones with the exception of patrolling national borders, when drones are needed to prevent "imminent danger to life" or when there are risks of a terrorist attack.

The bill would also give Americans the ability to sue the government for violating the act. And, it would prohibit evidence collected with warrantless drone surveillance from being used as evidence in court.

Muslims bomb more Churches

Islamist Murderers - The killers slaughtered 21 Christians and wounded 100 more in Sunday attacks on three churches.

• There is a near total world media blackout on the butchering of helpless Christians while they pray to God inside their churches.
• American politicians are silent as are Muslims around the world.
• A moronic and apathetic American public is more interested in Twitter and the latest movie star divorce. 

Three suicide bomb attacks on churches has rocked the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna, killing at least 21 people and wounding about 100, officials said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts on Sunday but the Islamist sect Boko Haram has often attacked church services in Nigeria.

They prompted protests in a region that has previously been hit by religious tensions. The first two blasts occurred within minutes of each other and targeted churches in the city of Zaria, police said. A third blast hit a church in the city of Kaduna about half an hour later reports the UK Guardian.

An official working for a relief agency involved in rescue efforts said 21 people had been killed and at least 100 people wounded. The Zaria attacks killed the bomber and at least one other person and left 51 wounded, a Nigerian Red Cross official said earlier. The Kaduna attack claimed 10 lives and wounded 29 people, he said.

Police said security prevented the suicide bombers from ramming explosive-laden cars into the churches. "If not for security, there would have been (many) more casualties," said Mohammed Abubakar Jinjiri, the Kaduna state police chief.

Churches have been increasingly targeted by violence in Nigeria. Last weekend, a suicide bomber detonated explosives outside a church in central Nigeria and gunmen attacked another church in the north-east, killing at least six people and wounding dozens of others

Attacks on Christian holidays have claimed the most lives. An Easter Day blast in Kaduna left at least 38 people dead. A Christmas Day suicide bombing of a Catholic church in Madalla, near Nigeria's capital, killed at least 44 people.

Chinese authorities demolish apartment buildings in Beijing's Chongwen district, calling them 'dangerous.'

Dozens of unidentified men severely beat two teenagers—who suffered broken teeth and head cuts—and an adult as they moved to demolish the homes of several residents in Chongwen district in Beijing this week, residents said reports Radio Free Asia.

About 60 to 80 men carried out the forced eviction using bulldozers on Wednesday without any official warning or legal process, said local resident Liu Fengchi.

"They held us to the ground while they started to demolish our homes; there were two kids who were taken off and beaten in the courtyard," said Liu, whose home had been in an alleyway near the Ciqikou area.

"They beat them till they lost two teeth, and they had to have several stitches in their head and ear."

The injured were all from the family of a widow, Li Xiuyun, she said.

"I told them they should bring out our belongings, that it wouldn't do to demolish [our homes] in this way," Liu said. "They said these were the actions of the government, but when I asked them who was from the government, no one came forward."

According to Li Xiuyun, the authorities had begun demolishing apartment buildings in the district, ostensibly because they were dangerous, but Liu and her husband had campaigned for many years against the plans.

Li's son Li Yunge said he had been pinned to the ground and beaten by a group of men until there was blood running down his face, although he hung on doggedly to his camera.

"Then they started to demolish the buildings, saying the government had held a meeting [on Tuesday] and officials higher up had told them to demolish them," Li Yunge said, adding that his sister and mother were the other two injured people.

"There were about 70 or 80 people," he said.

Land acquisition for development, often resulting in lucrative property deals for local officials, sparks thousands of protests by local communities across China every month, many of which escalate into clashes with police.

In recent years, property owners all over China have complained that existing leasehold contracts are being flouted by local officials and developers keen to swell revenue coffers with lucrative land deals.      (Radio Free Asia)

The Heartland Institute estimated that the federal government spent  more than $250 million on penis pumps over the past decade, with claims steadily rising in recent years reports the Washington Times.

The insanity of Big Government knows no bounds.  Free shit for everyone.  Don't worry, some other guy will pay the bill for you.

The Washington Times story deals with corruption in the system with fraudulent claims.  But the Times missed the real story.  The story of bi-partisan Socialized Medicine giveaways by politicians in both parties to get votes.

Admittedly, free penis pumps are a new low in pandering to voters.  But getting free government funded erections is truly bi-partisan.  The $250 million spent getting voters off is over a ten year period.  Ten years when both Republicans and Democrats controlled Congress.  Both parties appear to be eager that you have a happy ending.  Don't forget us on election day.

But for the record the Times story reports federal auditors say a Kansas-based company may have paid out as much as $4.2 million in potentially fraudulent Medicare claims for penis pumps, and the auditors are asking the company to refund the government the money.

The Health and Human Services inspector general said it sampled 100 claims made with Pos-T-Vac, the Dodge City-based penis-pump manufacturer, and found improprieties in more than half of payments for what are known as “male vacuum erection systems.”

"Free" tax money and corruption.  Who would have thought it possible?  But I did get to type penis in the story a lot.  So that makes it all worth it.

Romney will not select Rubio

Romney to Screw Conservatives and Hispanics  -  ABC News says fellow "moderate" Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty is the front runner for Vice President

• Rubio has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates.
• GOP prepares fuck themselves and throw away a historic opportunity to reach out to the vital state of Florida, Hispanic voters, Conservatives and the Tea Party by selecting Rubio.

I said some time ago that Mitt Romney would not select Marco Rubio for his Vice President.  Romney is a boring while vanilla kind of guy.  Energetic people like Rubio frighten him.  I believe Romney feels they upstage him.

You will hear the usual cover story bullshit about Rubio not having experience.  Nonsense.  Rubio spent eight years in the Florida legislature and even served as Speaker of the House.  Now he has two years under his belt in the Senate.  To bottom line it, Rubio has more experience than Romney.

ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl says that Marco Rubio is not being vetted to be Mitt Romney's running mate:

Even before the Republicans chose a presidential nominee it was widely assumed that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., would be at the top of anybody’s list of vice presidential candidates. The reasons are obvious: Not only is he young, charismatic and wildly popular with conservatives, but he could also help Republicans win a key state (Florida) and make inroads with Hispanics.

But knowledgeable Republican sources tell me that Rubio is not being vetted by Mitt Romney’s vice presidential search team. He has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates.

Although it is possible that Rubio may yet be asked to go through the vetting process, it has been nearly two months since Romney named his long-time aide Beth Myers to run his vice presidential search. The fact that Rubio has not been asked to turn over any documents by now is a strong indication that he is not on Romney’s short list of potential running mates.

Officially the Romney campaign has no comment. And Rubio has refused to make any comment when it comes to vice presidential questions. As Rubio spokesman Alex Conant told me, “We have no comment on the vice presidential search process.”

Romney appears to be getting ready to throw Senator Marco Rubio, Hispanics, Conservatives and the Tea Party all out of that GOP "Big Tent" at one time by not selecting Rubio for VP.  A standard excuse will be that Rubio needs more experience.  Never mind that Rubio has nearly triple the government experience that Romney has.

HORROR: Pork banned in Britain

A spineless British government has taken away the pork meals of Non-Muslim school children in an orgy of politically correct masturbation.

Roast pork and sausages have always been a staple of British diets.

But now hundreds of school children will be denied them for school lunches because of 'religious reasons'.

Pork, which is not eaten by devout Jews or Muslims, has been banned by councils across the country to satisfy the needs of staff and pupils who are not allowed contact with it reports the UK Daily Mail.

However, it is thought many schools do not serve halal or kosher meat, so Jewish and Muslim children would not be able to eat it anyway.

Haringey Council, north London, recently issued advice to all its schools and recommended a ban to meet the needs of staff and pupils who are not allowed contact with pork for religious reasons.

Figures supplied by school caterer Pabulum, in the south-east of England, show that around 20 of the 48 schools it supplied chose non-pork options.

In Haringey's infant, junior and primary schools, 37 out of 47 have a no pork rule. In Bradford 24 out of 160 schools choose not to have pork and in Newham, east London, 25 out of 75 opt out.

Luton has 23 out of 57 schools which choose not to supply pork to pupils and in Tower Hamlets, east London, 85 out of 90 do not offer a pork option. All schools offer a vegetarian option.    (UK Daily Mail)
