California already forces people to get Government Licenses for the right to work as furniture upholsterers, private investigators and recreation guides.  Now it wants to regulate pet groomers.

The People's Republic leads the country in the number of professions requiring a license.  In this Leftist state you are not allowed to go to work with permission from the government.

Insane Leftist State Senator Juan Vargas (D-San Diego), author of the proposed legislation, wants to provide pet owners "peace of mind" by creating a certification program. Groomers would have to complete about 900 hours of training to cut dog hair. 

But best of all you pay an as-yet unspecified fee to be certified by the state.

Vargas says the measure, known as SB 969, is intended to protect pets from untrained groomers.

"I want the government out of my salon," said Johnny Ray, co-owner of the Dog House in North Hollywood. "It's just a money grab."

Insane bi-partisan Big Government licensing has mushroomed over the years to include all manner of trades in both Democrat and Republican states.

• In Louisiana, florists must pass a test to earn a license to sell a fucking flower.
• Fortune tellers in Annapolis, Md., need to be licensed to tell the future (Did they see that one coming?).
•  In Mississippi, hair braiders need to be registered with that state's health department.  Never mind that humans have been doing un-regulated hair care for 50,000 years.

California has about 177 occupations requiring a license, the most of any state, according to the most recent comprehensive count by the Reason Foundation, a libertarian-leaning think tank.  The national average is 92, said Adam Summers, a senior policy analyst with the organization.

Summers, who has studied the rise in occupational licensing, says this type of professional regulation stifles competition, drives up prices and is particularly burdensome to low-income entrepreneurs trying to earn a living in service trades.

In the late 1990s, a group of African American hair-care specialists successfully sued to overturn California cosmetology laws requiring them to undergo 1,600 hours of training and pass an exam to braid hair.

A hair braider in Republican Utah is currently is waging a similar fight against that state's Big Government cosmetology board.

"Mandatory licensing tends to impose arbitrary standards," Summers said. "It's a monopolist system that doesn't necessarily improve quality of services and increases the cost of business."

When she made her ‘dua’ – a prayer to Allah for a suitable marriage – Lewthwaite writes that she asked for a man who would ‘go forth and give all he could for Allah and live a life of terrorising the disbelievers as they have us. This is what I wanted and Allah gave me this and better’.

Three of Morocco's most prominent conservative clerics have publicly backed a demand that a journalist be put to death for supporting greater sexual freedom in the North African kingdom.

Mokhtar el-Ghzioui, the editor of the daily al-Ahdath al-Maghribia, publicly supported a call by a Moroccan human rights activist to decriminalize sex outside of marriage. He said in a TV interview last week he would be fine with his mother or sister having consensual sexual relations outside of wedlock reports the Associated Press.

Abou Hafs, Omar el-Heddouchi and Hassan al-Kettani, the three most prominent clerics of the ultraconservative Salafi strand of Islam in Morocco, all spoke out in support of Nahari on their Facebook pages.

"The arrogance of the secularists has become intolerable," Kettani said. "A dyouth tells the world he would let his family sin and is then denounced by a sheikh and then it is the latter who is threatened with prison?"

The three men were imprisoned in 2003 and later implicated for inspiring a string of bombings by Islamist militants in Casablanca that killed 45 people. They were pardoned by the king in February.

As a Conservative Conservationist who took science classes, I believe it is simple common sense that pouring tons of chemicals and gasses into the air will have an impact on our environment.

Mankind is digging carbon dioxide out of the ground and adding over 8,000 tons of it into the atmosphere ever year. 

Magic Gas  -  Any thinking person can see that this is not "magic gas" that creates electric power and then goes away into a la-la land as many Conservatives like to pretend.

Yes weather is a complex mix of vulcanism, the sun and the ocean.  But the activities of man are very powerful:

• man added mercury in our drinking water
• sulfur pollution in the air
• deforestation from Brazil to Ethiopia
• or massive ocean pollution 

But that does not mean that the adding of carbon dioxide to the air cannot be dealt with in a way that protects freedom and capitalism.

The question is the level of man's contribution to warming.  Is man responsible for 10% of the warming.  25%???  40%???

The Global Warming calls for Socialism and wealth re-distribution need to be ignored for the pure bullshit that they are.  But Conservative thought needs to address the issue rather than cede it to the Leftists.

In a study by Yale and Columbia Universities, India holds the very last rank among 132 nations in terms of air quality with regard to its effect on human health.

India scored a minuscule 3.73 out of a possible 100 points in the analysis, lagging far behind the next worst performer, Bangladesh, which scored 13.66. The governments of Britain, Israel, the US, Japan, India and China have reported alleged cyber attacks by foreign militaries, hackers, and malicious software like Duqu, a virus similar to the Stuxnet cyber weapon constructed by Israel and the US for use against Iran's nuclear program. Although the nature and origin of the attacks or even whether they took place at all cannot be independently confirmed, the supposed threats are being used to propose punishing new legislation aimed at stifling internet freedoms and are igniting new rivalries in what many see as the battlefield of the 21st century: cyberspace.

The Paul manifesto is titled "The Technology Revolution" and lays out an argument for keeping the government entirely out of regulating anything online, and for leaving the private sector to shape the new online space.

"The revolution is occurring around the world," it reads. "It is occurring in the private sector, not the public sector. It is occurring despite wrongheaded attempts by governments to micromanage markets through disastrous industrial policy. And it is driven by the Internet, the single greatest catalyst in history for individual liberty and free markets."

• Bloggers dare to use the Internet to tell the people about the news.

Police in Vietnam attempted to prevent bloggers from participating in two anti-China demonstrations over the weekend, prompting rights groups to criticize the government for its heavy-handed tactics in obstructing peaceful protests in the country.

The rare demonstrations, which came in response to growing tensions over a territorial dispute in the South China Sea, saw protesters on Sunday march to the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi and to the Chinese Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City reports Radio Free Asia.

More than 100 protesters attended each rally, waving Vietnamese flags and shouting “Down with China.”

Police largely stood by and watched the demonstrations, but in some cases bloggers in both cities reported being harassed by police and even detained to prevent them from spreading information about the event.

In Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, protesters marched on the Chinese Consulate, but police prevented them from accessing the area, according to witnesses.

Bloggers and other participants also complained of police harassment and detentions before and during the rally in the southern city.  Blogger Huynh Cong Thuan said he was under police surveillance ahead of the rally.

“The police are watching me closely,” he said. “However, I will try my best to evade them and go to [the city center] where the demonstration will take place.”

And another participant, Le Hieu Dang, said authorities only allowed the protest to proceed after protesters convinced them of their goal and promised to remain civil.

“At first, the police and security forces tried to prevent us from demonstrating,” he said.  “But we argued with them convincingly, so they let us go.”

Blogger Nguyen Hoang Vi said she and a number of her friends were briefly detained by police after the protest.

“A group of five or six of us was stopped by the police after the protest in [Ho Chi Minh City] and then taken to a station,” she told RFA’s Vietnamese service during a call from her cell phone while being held by the police.  

China and Vietnam have a long-running dispute in the South China Sea over potentially valuable oil deposits, fishing rights, and the Paracel and Spratly island chains.  China also has competing claims with the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan for territories in the sea.     (Radio Free Asia)

• Private contracts between lender and borrower would be voided by a Socialist Big Government.
• The government seized private property would then be sold at what the government considers "fair value" and the borrower's (voter's) payments would be lowered.
• Mortgage investors would be fucked such as the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, mutual funds and others.
• Private mortgage lending to home buyers could vanish.

A California county’s top executive addressed bondholders and mortgage loan investors amid mounting concern it will use eminent domain to seize mortgages to buy the votes of homeowners who owe more than the properties’ values.

San Bernardino is exploring the strategy along with the cities of Fontana and Ontario there. An agreement approved last week granted them the authority to study and create a program reports Businessweek.

Robert Shiller, the economics professor at Yale University and co-creator of the S&P/Case-Shiller home-price indexes, supported the idea in a June 23 op-ed in the New York Times. By using eminent-domain powers, municipalities can force the sale of private property at prices deemed to be fair value if doing so serves a public purpose.

Eighteen trade groups including the American Bankers Association, National Association of Home Builders and Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association sent letters yesterday to California officials expressing their“strong objection.” They warned it would “actually further depress housing values in the county by restricting the flow of credit to home buyers.” The county is the largest by area in the U.S., excluding Hawaii and Alaska, according to its website.

Damaged bondholders may include pension funds such as California Public Employees’ Retirement System that oversee money for retirees living in the areas, mutual funds and real estate investment trusts owned by retail investors, and government-tied holders such as American International Group Inc. (AIG), and Fannie Mae.

• 27 people were taken into custody for destroying public property

After three days of protests and violent clashes with police, residents of Shifang in south western China, have finally had their demands met and local authorities have decided to abandon plans to construct a copper alloy plant in the city.

The movement began on social networks with web users sharing concerns over the effects this project would have on the environment and the health of locals.

The protesting soon spread to the streets of the city with residents voicing their opposition to the construction of this polluting factory. As we can see in various pieces of amateur video footage circulating online, the rallies were unceremoniously dispersed with riot police using tear gas.

Shifang City authorities said they would pay the medical costs of people, both protesters and passers-by, hurt during three days of protest against the construction of a US$ 1.6 billion molybdenum-copper alloy plant.

Protests began on 1 July. Local witnesses said that on the first evening police in anti-riot gear and soldiers took over the town's centre after firing tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Agents also took 27 people into custody for destroying public property; 21 were released without charges. The six still in custody are charged with throwing objects at police, but their status might improve since residents continue to demand their release.

A 15-year-old boy has accused riot police of excessive force. "I was a passer-by when 20 or 30 riot policemen rushed at me. One of them kicked me to the ground, and other policemen beat me with truncheons, while others kept stepping on and kicking me for about a minute."

Shifang residents' victory marks a turning point for China's pollution problem. Until recently, local Communist authorities tended to seize land without compensation to sell it to private interests that more often than not built polluting factories. However, more and more ordinary Chinese are become civic minded and demonstrations are proving successful.

Photos posted online showed protesters carrying banners reading: "Safeguard our hometown, oppose the chemical factory's construction" and "Unite to protect the environment for the next generation".

The demonstration is the latest in a series of "not in my backyard" grassroots protests in China, testifying to growing fears about the toll that development is taking of the environment and health. Last summer, tens of thousands of people in the north-eastern city of Dalian marched to demand the relocation of a chemical plant.     (UK Guardian)

PUNISHMENT DEMANDED

Despite the dual concessions, some Chinese called for the punishment of officials responsible for the violent crackdown. An 18-year-old resident told Reuters by telephone on Tuesday the police had beaten protesters the previous night.

“What are we going to do about the bastards who used violence on innocent people?” said microblog comment.

Said another: “You have beaten up a bunch of innocent people. Don’t these leaders need to be criminally detained too? Release them!”

Photos of Tuesday night’s sit-in protest published on microblogs showed a large crowd sitting down under street lamps, in what one microblogger described as “a sea of people” demanding the release of those detained.

The protests turned violent on Monday when tens of thousands of residents stormed the city government headquarters, smashed police cars and clashed with thousands of anti-riot police, which fired tear gas on protesters.

The outpouring of public anger is emblematic of the rising discontent facing Chinese leaders, who are obsessed with maintaining stability and struggling to balance growth with rising public anger over environmental threats.    (nepal24hours.com)
