Battle of Gallipoli - April 25, 1915 to January 9, 1916

Waltzing Matilda
And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
And I watch my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving old dreams of past glory
And the old men march slowly, all bent, stiff and sore
The forgotten heroes from a forgotten war
And the young people ask, "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all

By Gary;

Today marks the 97th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Gallipoli.

Some readers will say "What battle?  Where?"  These so-called vital battles fade away into history.

The battle was an Allied attack on the Ottoman Empire in 1915.  It was a slaughter causing some 471,000 dead and wounded.  Within a few months of this so-called "all important" battle it was nearly totally forgotten by everyone who had not been their themselves.

And there is the point.  Average people want to live in peace and go about their everyday lives.  But politicians feel the need for "glory" in the history books or to get votes in the next election.  A glory bought with the blood of other people, because you will almost never see any politician resign his office and volunteer for the front lines of a war.

Perhaps 90% plus of all wars are optional.  No one really needed to fight, and those "important" wars the politicians talk about are forgotten to all except a few history buffs.

Keep that in mind the next time some political hack insists that your son or daughter MUST go fight in some crap-hole overseas without getting a legal and Constitutional Declaration of War.

A Toast to the Dead   -   In the meantime, here at my computer I am raising my glass of gin and tonic.

"Here is to the boys who did their duty without question.  God Bless them.  But may the politicians who sent them there rot in Hell."

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours... You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well"
— Atatürk 1934

And the band played Waltzing Matilda

Alec Campbell, the last known survivor of the ANZAC forces at Gallipoli (and the last known survivor of Gallipoli) died on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at the age of 103.
                                               .
Mr. Campbell enlisted at 16, and served at Gallipoli in 1915. He led Hobart's ANZAC Day parade three weeks prior to his death.

Lyrics:

When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murrays green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in nineteen fifteen my country said Son
It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli

How well I remember that terrible day
How the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He chased us with bullets, he rained us with shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia
But the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then we started all over again

Now those that were left, well we tried to survive
In a mad world of blood, death and fire
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive
But around me the corpses piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit
And when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying
For no more I'll go waltzing Matilda
All around the green bush far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me

So they collected the cripples, the wounded, the maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The armless, the legless, the blind, the insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where my legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
Then turned all their faces away

And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
And I watch my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving old dreams of past glory
And the old men march slowly, all bent, stiff and sore
The forgotten heroes from a forgotten war
And the young people ask, "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me
And their ghosts may be heard as you pass the Billabong
Who'll come-a-waltzing Matilda with me?

The Patriot's Dream

The songs of the wars are as old as the hills
They cling like the rust on the cold steel that kills
They tell of the boys who went down to the tracks
In a patriotic manner with the cold steel on their backs

The train pulled away on that glorious night
The drummer got drunk and the bugler got tight
While the boys in the back sang a song of good cheer
While riding off to glory in the spring of their years

The patriot's dream still lives on today
It makes mothers weep and it makes lovers pray
Let's drink to the men who got caught by the chill
Of the patriotic fever and the cold steel that kills

Jihadis recruited at Australian colleges

Importing Islamic Terrorism

Counter terrorism agencies fear Australia universities could be a breeding ground for radicalising overseas students with claims that an Indian student was recruited to Jihad while studying in Queensland.

Indian security agencies believe Adil Fayaz, 26, joined the civil war in Syria last year after becoming radicalised by Islamic fundamentalists while studying an MBA at a Queensland university in 2012.

Senior intelligence officials in Australia claimed they were concerned about the possibility that foreign students could be drawn into radicalised cells in Australia reports the Melbourne Herald Sun.

Fayaz, originally from Kashmir, came to Australia in 2009 and studied for three years.

And the moronic leaders of the world keep importing Muslims into their countries.

After leaving Queensland, it is believed he joined an Australian NGO in Malaysia before travelling to Turkey and finally arriving in Syria last year.

“Senior home ministry officials say Adil was radicalised by Islamic fundamentalists in Australia,” an Indian media report said.

The revelation came just a day after Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced tough new anti-terror laws designed to stop Australians radicalised overseas, returning home.

It also follows a string of other Queensland Muslims to be radicalised and join the jihad in Syria, including former Gold Coast schoolgirl Amira Karroum and her husband Yusuf Ali, killed earlier this year, and the charging of a Brisbane mum accused of trying to fly supplies to her husband fighting in the Middle East.

Fayaz’s family denied his involvement in any jihadi movement.

“He is working in Turkey and is in regular touch with us. Even last night we were speaking to him on Skype till 3am,” a family member told the Hindustan Times.

Creeping Sharia
Sharia a good fit in some areas, says academic
.
AUSTRALIA'S Muslims would not move towards a parallel legal system if some Islamic practices were better integrated into the existing legal framework, a University of Sydney academic said.
.
The Sydney law school lecturer Ghena Krayem said extensive interviews with NSW Muslim leaders and community members found they were not seeking a recognition of sharia in areas where it was contrary to existing Australian law, such as polygamy.
.
But where in practice both systems overlapped - such as marriage and divorce - they sought a better integration of Islamic principles, enhancing social cohesion without legislative change.
.
Dr Krayem, whose doctoral thesis on the topic is the first empirical study of its kind, said ad hoc mediation of marriage breakdowns by imams - a practice which already operated in the shadow of the law - would benefit from procedural safeguards such as the transparency and accountability of the dispute resolution system of the Family Law Act.

Ukrainian Army Ready To Surrender, One Million People Have Been Killed

1 Million People Have Been Killed - the west should feel ASHAMED. for backing and cheerleading this pointless 21st century catastrophe. Ukraine has wasted everything and paid a truly massive price for trusting NATO.

World War One - The 100th Anniversary of Insanity

1914 to 2014
Countless millions of dead bodies later and still
we have learned nothing.

By Gary;

July 28, 1914, the Austro-Hungarian Empire declared war on the Kingdom of Serbia.  Here we are at the 100th Anniversary of World War One and it appears man has learned nothing.

I suspect man is incapable of learning.  Perhaps we did evolve from the dreaded Killer Ape.  Man certainly has endless capacity to inflict murder, torture and death to all of those around him.

The so-called "best and the brightest" ruled over Europe in 1914.  But my theory has always been that the "best and brightest" are just assholes who can afford nice clothes.

The Elites of Europe on all sides endlessly beat the twin drums of nationalism and war.  Draw the attending of the Sheeple masses away from their everyday troubles and blame all of their problems on some foreign Boogeyman.

"Just let us take you to war and everything in the world will be right." they claimed.

Nothing Has Changed  -  Man has not evolved.  The Killer Ape simply has invented new and better ways to slaughter mankind in ever larger numbers.

Few of the hundreds of wars in history have had any real meaning.  In most cases if the wars had never been fought nothing would have changed or the world might have even been a better place.

While we must always defend our homeland, beware of the politicians in Devil-Horns preaching foreign adventures . . . . adventures that they will not be participating in themselves.  The political hacks are always volunteering other people's children for wars.

But today let us honor those who foolishly or not answered the call to arms in the Great War - The War to End All Wars.

Yeah, "to end all wars."  Right.  Pure bumper sticker bullshit.

25,000,000 Dead
.
The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I was staggering.  The numbers are even higher if you include the resulting revolution in Russia and spin-off wars from Poland to Greece.
.
The horror of trench warfare proves that the leadership class was insane.  Battle after battle, year after year, the generals would order their troops to charge at the prepared trench defenses of the enemy with the exact same result  -  mass slaughter.  It was an endless cycle of slaughter, draft new soldiers and more slaughter.
.
I idea of making peace never entered the minds of the moronic generals and politicians.  Only the Russian people had the guts to rise in revolution against the insane warmonger "best and brightest" leadership class.
.
But all those corpses had no meaning to the political hack liars ruling Europe.  To them the war was all about money, power and imperialism.  As fast as humanly possible Britain and France eagerly pulled down the German and Turkish flags in Africa and Asia and raised their own imperial banners with brand new colonies. The common soldier died so the Elites could create an Empire.
