In the wake of Donald Trump’s presidential victory, some liberal women are choosing sterilization procedures out of concern for reproductive rights under a potential Trump administration.
A report by Newsweek highlights women who have undergone sterilization surgeries in response to fears about potential limitations on abortion rights and other reproductive freedoms. Among the women interviewed, many expressed deep anxiety over the future of women’s rights.
“If I am to be denied any rights in the next four (or more) years, I will not give them up without a fight,” said one woman from Texas. Another shared her frustration, stating, “I am not happy that I felt forced into a surgery I did not want to alter my body. I feel like the election tied my hands and forced me to be sterilized—that is horrible.”
The report also noted that in some cases, male partners have taken similar steps. One woman interviewed mentioned that her husband had already undergone a vasectomy as a precautionary measure.
