After months of speculation, last year the entertainment giant confirmed that its upcoming film, “The Eternals,” would finally feature an openly gay male superhero.
“He’s married, he’s got a family, and that is just part of who he is,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said in August.
In an interview published by LGBTQ news outlet NewNowNext Thursday, actor Haaz Sleiman, who’ll play Marvel’s first gay superhero’s husband, opened up about a “beautiful, very moving kiss” he’d recently filmed with his onscreen love.
“I just shot a Marvel film with the first openly gay superhero, The Eternals,” the Lebanese-American actor said. “I’m married to the gay superhero Phastos,” he added. “And we represent a gay family and have a child.”
“For me it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be. Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point,” he added.
