Up to 25,000 protest Muslim immigration to Germany

Anti-Islam 'Pegida' rally in Dresden sees record turnout

German Christians in massive numbers are rising up to protest the Islamization of Germany. The media is reporting at least 17,500 came out in this protest but others say it was closer to 25,000.
According to this report the movement started in October and had just hundreds of people at the time. So apparently it’s grown to incredible numbers in just a couple of months. And of course, their opponents are calling them Nazis:
More than 17,000 protesters rallied Monday in Dresden against the “Islamization of the West,” the tenth such demonstration in as many weeks. The far-right movement is becoming a problem for politicians.
German society and the political establishment have for weeks grappled with the emergence of the “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West,” or PEGIDA, whose ranks in the city of Dresden have quickly grown from just a few hundred in October.
Around 4,000 counter-demonstrators marched through Dresden under the slogan “Nazi-free,” warning there was no place for racism and xenophobia in a country marred by racial hatred during World War II.
Most PEGIDA followers insisted they had no connection to Nazis, calling themselves “patriots” concerned by the “watering down” of Germany’s Christian-rooted culture and traditions. They often accuse mainstream political parties of betraying them, and the media of lying.

Open Borders "Conservatives" Betray The West

From Eric Dondero:

The European media is literally shocked this morning, by the size of a rally held last night. Some 17,500 and Anti-Islamization of the West demonstrators gathered in the town square in Dresden to sing Christmas Carols and wave the Israeli flag.

Twitter is blazing this morning #PEGIDA with some 10 Tweets per minute. The UK, French, German, Italian and Spanish media along with Russia's RT have multiple stories on the rise of PEGIDA.

Merkel not pleased with anti-Islamist protesters
.

Most of the Euro-media stories on PEGIDA this morning are extremely biased, calling the demonstrators "xenophobes" and "far right Nazis" (an oxymoron for anyone who understands political labels.)

One of the very few balanced is from the UK's The Independent, Germany anti-Islam protests: 17,000 (sic) march on Dresden against 'Islamification of the West'

What has startled politicians, though, is that many Pegida supporters are not extremists or neo-Nazis but middle-class office workers, parents and pensioners.
The movement’s apparent appeal – going from marches numbering the hundreds in October to tens of thousands today – has forced Germany’s leading politicians to respond. Chancellor Angela Merkel warned about misinformation spread by Pegida and other groups to further their stance on immigration.
“There's freedom of assembly in Germany, but there's no place for incitement and lies about people who come to us from other countries,'' she said Germany takes in more asylum seekers than any other EU country and expects 200,000 claims for 2014, up from 127,000 in 2013.
its main focus is the preservation of “Judeo-Christian Western culture” against what they claim is the rise of “radicalism” and “parallel societies with Sharia police”.
Curiously, there is little if any coverage this morning in U.S. media of the PEGIDA demonstrations last night.  You're only reading about it here at Libertarian Republican.  (Partly because your editor is multilingual with a basic reading ability and comprehension of spoken German.)
