In Defense of Ebenezer Scrooge

Christmas is a humbug - a waste of time and money.  A false and commercial festival, devoutly to be ignored.
Ebenezer Scrroge

2014 is almost gone and American society is an even bigger mess than last year.

The religious holiday of Christmas appears to have no meaning to the tens of millions of crazy shoppers roaming the American malls.

In 2012 I was dragged against my will to a local Walmart on Thanksgiving night and viewed some of the insanity first hand.  These people are fucking nuts.  Never again.

Just look at movies from the 1930s or 40s to see the massive shift in American society.  Back then little Johnny would get a baseball bat under the tree.  Little Suzie would get a doll.  A simple Christmas.  The children and the nuclear family were happy and all was well.

Today we have massive divorce rates, violence, everyone in debt to buy useless crap and near-illiterate adults and children greedy for worthless material goods.

Scrooge was correct in calling Christmas a false and commercial festival. Every year the orgy of spending and increased debt to buy plastic Asian made crap gets worse.

2012 was my last year in the malls and the spending is over.  I refuse any longer to join in this feeding frenzy of fools.  I think I will go to church instead. , , , , to church, after I take Scrooge out and buy him a few drinks to thank him for his advice.

Ebenezer Scrooge  -  Outstanding Businessman

Charles Dickens, like all good anti-business Liberals, just had to create the quintessential "evil" small businessman Scrooge.  The underlying theme of Dickens is making money is a bad thing, wealth is evil.  Only by giving away your hard earned money to others can you be redeemed.
.
The passage below is the perfect example.  Scrooge is painted as a bad man for daring to make a profit.  But if Scrooge did not fight hard for profit then who would pay the salary of his employee Bob Cratchit?  It was Scrooge's good head for business that allowed Bob Cratchit to feed his wife and children and put a roof over their heads.  But please don't bring facts up to a Liberal.

Ebenezer Scrooge: Yes, I have changed my mind. The price has gone up.
Mr. Pemberton: Gone up? But that's impossible!
Ebenezer Scrooge: If you want my corn, gentlemen, you'll meet the price I quoted yesterday... plus five percent interest for the delay.
Mr. Tipton: That's outrageous, Scrooge. You'll be left with a warehouse stuffed full of corn!
Ebenezer Scrooge: Well, that's my affair, isn't it?
Mr. Pemberton: If we have to meet your price, our bread will be more expensive. The poor will suffer.
Ebenezer Scrooge: Then buy someone else's corn. Good day, Sirs.
Mr. Tipton: Scrooge, one moment. We'll buy your corn... at the price you quoted yesterday.
Ebenezer Scrooge: It's too late for that, gentlemen. And if you wait until tomorrow, it'll cost you another five percent interest.
Mr. Pemberton: Damn it, Scrooge, that's not fair!
Ebenezer Scrooge: No, but it's business. I'll give you a second to make up your minds.
Mr. Tipton: All right, Scrooge, done and done!
Ebenezer Scrooge: Good. Make sure that a check for the entire amount is deposited with my clerk. I don't ship until I have the cash in hand.
