Asia Bibi and her two daughters. A Christian, Bibi has been sentenced to hang in Pakistan for daring to 'disparage " the name of Mohammed. |
Islamic nuts in Pakistan to hang a Christian for Freedom of Speech
- In jail since 2010, Asia Bibi is only kept alive by public pressure from around the world.
- Obama and the U.S. does not give a flying fuck about her religious freedom.
- The U.S. pours billions in tax money into a Pakistan that crushes Freedom of Religion.
Asia Bibi’s tale has been a long and tragic one. The Pakistani woman has been detained for nearly three years after being charged with blasphemy for allegedly disparaging the name of the Prophet Mohammed. The penalty for talking negatively about Islam’s leader? Death.
.
Bibi’s story came to light in November 2010. Since, there have been a number of updates, but none of them have led to the Christian mother of five’s release. Her high-profile case has even led Pope Benedict XVI to appeal for mercy. She is the first woman to be given the death penalty under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws.
.
Bibi, 42, was originally scheduled to be put to death by hanging on Nov. 8 2010, but the intense debate surrounding her detention has helped keep her alive. Rather than admitting fault, Bibi claims that it was her co-workers — whom she has forgiven — who wrongly made claims against her.
A Pakistani court Asia Bibi guilty of defiling the name of the Prophet Mohammed during a 2009 argument with Muslim fellow field workers. The offense is punishable by death or life imprisonment, according to Pakistan's penal code, and Bibi was sentenced to hang.
.
On January 4, 2011, at Kohsar Market of Islamabad, the Governor of Punjab, Salmaan Taseer, was assassinated by a member of his security team, Malik Mumtaz Hussein Qadri, because of his defence of Noreen and opposition to the blasphemy law. Taseer was outspoken in his criticism of the law and the verdict in the Asia Bibi case.
.
Thousands of Muslims also rallied in support of the blasphemy laws in Pakistan after the murder.
.
Pakistan's Minority Affairs Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, the only Christian member of Pakistan's cabinet, was also assassinated, on March 2, 2011, reportedly also for his position on blasphemy laws. He was shot dead by gunmen who ambushed his car near his residence in Islamabad.
