Captain America: Civil War - Scarlett Johansson Battles Hawkeye

The Captain is Back

  • Even as the ultimate fanboy, Cap was never one of my favorite characters.  But the way the Marvel movies have treated the character has pushed him up into the top strata.

(Forbes)  -  Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Chris Evans were all part of a surprise event at D23 in California over the weekend, where Disney and Marvel announced several new projects, and fans went wild over clips from next year’s Captain America: Civil War.
The clip isn’t available for viewing, but according to Forbes reporter Mark Hughes, the footage gave fans a taste of a new villain — Crossbones — and lots of action.
Disney brought out the big guns, from their Marvel movie slate to their Star Warsseries, and fans went wild. Among the biggest moments of the panel — and of the entire weekend, without any doubt — came in the form of reveals about the upcoming Marvel movies, especially Captain America: Civil War. The audience was treated to footage, images, and even an appearance on stage by Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie (Captain America and Falcon, of course!).
The footage begins with the Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow in position for a battle, surveying a busy city street. Falcon deploys a flying drone that swoops down into traffic and up under a large vehicle. The truck’s occupants are Crossbones and his crew, and a large battle commences between these villains and Cap’s team. While Captain America fights Crossbones, Falcon and Black Widow take down the rest of the criminals. We see lots of damage done to the surrounding street and buildings, and Cap’s shield ends up with a bomb attached to it, so he throws it just before the bomb explodes. Crossbones finally falls, defeated, and removes his mask. He mentions Bucky Barnes — aka the Winter Soldier, whom Cap has been trying to track down — and Captain America seems shocked.
Then the footage switches to a montage of battle footage, as Captain America runs through explosions and clings to a helicopter trying to hold it with one arm while he clings to a building with the other. We see William Hurt in a suit, saying Captain America is considered a vigilante by many people, and then a shot of Bucky trapped in a clear container of some sort (with D23 printed on it, as an easter egg for the D23 Expo viewers).
From there, we go to footage of Bucky with his arm trapped in some contraption (as seen in the post-credit scene in Ant-Man), where he admits he remembers Steve Rogers. We next see Cap and Bucky together in the snow, a funeral shot, more footage from the fight with Crossbones, and then Black Widow fighting Hawkeye. Mixed in there is of course Iron Man, with a great line about wanting to punch Cap’s perfect teeth.
