Man Discovers His Best Friend
This one slipped through the cracks
By Gary;
Prehistoric Man finds Dog.
Dog lovers of the world should be flooding the theaters, but I didn't even know this movie had already been out for three weeks. I suspect the rest of the public was in the same boat.
Simply a young hunter befriends an injured wolf during the last ice age. Gradually gaining the wolf's trust, he gives it water and then food establishing himself as dominant by feeding himself first. He sets out for the village without the wolf, but it follows him. Their companionship grows, and they learn to hunt and travel together.
It is hard to tell where the actual filming ends and green screen special effects begin. In other words, they did a great job.
The film is beautiful. Much like Wind River you feel the cold of the Ice Age. The film gives you the impression you are tagging along on the dog-man journey.
Add in this movie makes Naked and Afraid look tame. Life was not just hard, it was savage where only the strong survive.
Alpha may be the best and most realistic of the prehistoric films done over the years.
A classic? No. But the movie is head and shoulders above a lot of the re-tread crap out there.
Rated 7 out of 10
